Iron Maiden's got a new album coming out in 2010, I can't wait for that.
The 10s shall be known as the mainstreamization of extreme metal.
By 2019 high schools will be playing Deicide at basketball games, Behemoth will become traditional wedding music (Draconian for funerals), and dances shall become moshpits for Bloodbath.
Every person and their dog will have at least twelve extreme metal CDs.
The amount of shitty deathcore, crappy death metal, and atrocious grindcore bands being produced will be phenomenal, for every high school band to ever form will wish to play. All good music as we know it will die; the extreme metal bands of the 80s, 90s, and whatever has been made in the new millennium that doesn't suck total cock shall become their own distinct genre: classic death.
Extreme metal as we know it will die, and from the ashes of its smoldering corpse shall arise core. An unmeasurable amount of core: grindcore, metalcore, deathcore. Nothing but core.

So in essence you are saying it will be the apocalypse?
Seriously though people, stop trying to predict what is going to happen, you are ruining the naturalness of the unpredictable world of music. Stop worrying and let it be a surprise.

I was not surprised the first time I heard Miley Cyrus.
What has this decade offered that isn't mediocre?
Mastodon. And every Converge album from Jane Doe on.

So do Disturbed and Godsmack I think. Supposedly Metallica is going to start recording their 10th album in late 2011.
dubstep
it's only getting bigger
It will probably be another decade of mediocre, committee-drafted corporate shit.

Woah woah woah woah, back the fuck up, source?
Also, I have a feeling Indie Rock will become more mainstream. (Isn't "Indie", by definition, not mainstream? :v:)
Pop will die... hopefully. Maybe with the help of newer Rock bands such as Cage the Elephant, Airborne, and Charm City Devils, Rock will become more mainstream.

Well I know Bruce himself said that they were coming out with a new album soon when I saw them in '08.
They better not disappoint...
Mastodon. And every Converge album from Jane Doe on.
Yeah, those bands are great.
But they're not necessarily 'big'.
Nobody knows about Converge, and that's what pisses me off.
I hope there will be a lot of R&B in the 10's!
Pop punk and indie rock dies. Synthpop makes a comeback, led by Owl City.

this.
tupac comes back alive and shows every rapper whats what
I don't expect there to be some new rise in some obscure music genre because we went from 09 to 10. Although I really hope this shit that is an insult to music dies. A lot of it is nothing more than computer generated sound and people using auto tuner on their voice to make them sound like a robot. Which is nothing more than, well, cheating. The point of that thing is to help you stay in tune with the notes and reach ones you can't get properly, and to do it subtly so it's hard to tell. But these bands just butcher it and exploit the hell out of it.
I think it's safe to say that over the past few years, music has died. The only good stuff is either older stuff, or newer stuff from older bands. New bands are just about all crap. There's a lot less talent in music nowadays, and what passes for skill in some genres is lame.

I can't remember, but it is definately true.
On my earlier post, I wasn't talking about todays "so called R&B", I was talking about the real stuff from the late 40's, 50's and 60's such as Ray Charles and B.B King.

no chance of that happening at all.
We are heading for futuristic sounds using synthesizers as made evident by lady gaga, la roux, calvin harris and a few other groups which I forget the name of, all of which have been influenced by 80's synthpop. Hell, even 80's synthpop groups are coming back to release more tracks. No doubt we will be hearing much more in the next decade.

I'm just talking on a mainstream level here

Megadeth are making a new album as well, not sure if it's due to release in 2010 or 11. But all these classic bands releasing new albums I hope gives some flavour to the music of the decade.

hah, don't get me started on the new definition of R&B. It's nothing fucking like the good old stuff. I love blues, but I hate new 'R&B'

Dave has almost finished writing it, it'll probably be a 2011 release.

How about you people get off your lazy asses and make the music you want to hear instead of bitching about it?

Because I can't write good songs.
A new, more powerful than ever, folk revival?
One can hope for the return of British prog rock, but this one is doubtful.
