Okay so I apparently need to stress the importance of the age thing.
If you are under 18, you are legally a minor. In such a case, any adults (18+) you are with legally assumes responsibility for you.
That means that, if you are say 17 and you come and you break something, I, am the host, and legally and financially responsible for that. Doesn't matter if I don't know you. My responsibility.
I, and I'm sure no one else who will be coming, wants that responsibility. If I did, I'd have had kids.
I am sorry if this sounds harsh but if you are not 18 on or before the date we go camping, you cannot come. I don't care if you're an emancipated minor or something else you think might make you an adult. The answer is no.

Whale it isn't personal. You're a minor. You can't come. I'm sorry.
I'm not going camping to be responsible for what the state defines as a child.
Georgia seems like the best option; I may be able to attend on one of my visits back to the states. This is of course if it happens during a period I'm free or before/after the England Camp FP meetup (Which I'm still sorting out)

Minors should be able to come as long as you have them and their respectable guardian sign and submit a waiver basically saying you are not responsible for them getting themselves hurt, arrested, etc.
I'm not going to make, distribute, get copies of, and notarize waivers for minors to come camping. Too much work.

They don't have to be physical copies, you can create a PDF, have it available for download and they can print it off, sign it, then email you the form and all you'd have to do is keep it backed up both on your harddrive and physically in the event of it being needed.
Essentially it just needs to acknowledge that you do not take responsibility for their actions or anything that may happen to them over the period of the event.
I live in the southeast (georgia) but I do not know anything of the ways of facepunch

Beautiful city, I have an exgirlfriend who lives there. She went to Effingham County High School, and now goes to GA Southern. First girl I porked too :v:
aww shit, where are the florida facepunchers man??
I personally think North Carolina would be a decent middle-ground for everyone. That way people from both the North East and South East could travel about the same distance.
As for minors: I don't think, even with a waiver, they should be able to attend. You have to think about the circumstances here. You've got a group of young adults around, some drinking, etc. Some camping locations still hold people of 18 years or older liable, with or without a waiver. Ultimately the responsibility lies on the host no matter where you go. I just think legally it's easier to settle disputes over damages / stolen property if you're over 18. If not, damages must be paid through the party hosting the event, meaning there will later be a fight with the underage childs' parents'.
i think late may would be better especially for anyone in college as most colleges/universities get out around early may
I also think so.

It would have to be notarized. Just because I make a document you sign doesn't make it a legally binding document unless it's notarized.
It's too much effort and work. People who aren't 18 will just have to wait until they are.

Really, I think it should be Georgia or Florida. North Carolina is nice, don't get me wrong, but this meetup is intended for people in SOUTHEAST United States, not people in the NORTHeast.
Also yes thank you. I'm not going to be responsible. Not my job.
holy shit. this would be during my college finals -_- . I would have gone too if it was like a week later.
P.S. I live in Atlanta, Georgia.
I'll need to know the location before I can say if I'll be attending, but at this stage it shouldn't be a problem. If its in Alabama, I live here so no problems. Georgia shouldn't be a problem either. Florida might be an issue. Anywhere else is unlikely. But with Georgia in the lead, it shouldn't not be an issue.
in south east we do this

Oh shit, I go to Georgia Southern...
put me down as maybe... and ill bring another fper!
ps we live in georgia!
Yeah, put me down as a maybe as well. I still don't know all the details. I might bring a friend or two, I might not. I might have a vehicle, I might not. Lot of stuff I need to work out first before I can really give definitive answers.
I'll probably end up pushing this forward once I get some time to look at it. Been pretty busy today and will be tomorrow.
[editline]12th January 2012[/editline]
Added new people and pushed the date forward.
The date is now set from May 20th to May 25th. Let me know if this is far enough in advance or if it needs to be pushed further forward due to college.

I don't have to worry about schooling right now, but the friends I might bring do, so this really opens it up for me.

Awesome! That's right in the timeframe from which I can go. I'd just be done with finals and I'll be leaving for Ecuador late may.
I'm taking this whole year free so I have no issue with the date.
I vote for The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
I mean look at this beautiful shit

How long have you been going there? I graduated from GSU in December 2008
Northern Georgia would be good I'd say. It's the geographic center and has nice parks.
Hell I'd go maybe go.
