Dammit garry, I thought you said no gore
i've never heard of this story before
I had found out a while ago the coffee was so hot it gave her third degree burns on her legs, way the hell above a safe temperature to ever have coffee. Like, it had to be just short of boiling. It's always one of those stories people bring up with a little laugh, "oh if you can sue for spilling coffee on your idiot self you can sue for anything!", often after you do some dumb thing like trip on a step or hit your funnybone on a chair. I give people a good rundown of this story whenever it comes up
The only court case I really laugh about is a case here in Canada, where a man broke into a house to rob them, but fell and injured himself down their stairs. He sued and won the case...
Wow I was one of those people who believed that case was just another petty "Americans will sue anyone for anything" kind of deal. But yeah after watching the video and seeing those photos, yeah it was a legitimate case. I feel like an a-hole for thinking it wasn't serious in the slightest.

RetroReport is an interesting video series. Hindsight is always 20/20.
As an employee of McDonald's, everything on the burner is kept at 199-201 degrees. Slightly shy of boiling. I have had so much coffee spilled on my hands and arms that I can say it does indeed suck. But if you are clumsy enough to spill 12/16/21 ounces of coffee on yourself then it is completely your fault.
Also to be taken into consideration, are you an 80 year old? I don't know if you know this but the skin's ability to protect wears down over the years.
I really wish that media outlets would be held accountable for misrepresenting facts. There is no opinion defense for lying and saying that she was driving at the time.
