• Do College Students Hate Free Speech? Let's Ask Them.

With all the contradicting statements about censoring the most outrageously harmless and casual expressions and then also fully supporting the concept of free speech, I think that many college students just go with whatever is considered the most progressive standpoint, without putting much thought into it. I guess is is a problem with them all being way too immersed in this microcosm of campus live. There's all this 'controversy' taking place right around them and everyone wants to be the most outstandingly progressive person to tell the world how it's done as a shining example. But most of them seem to have no idea about life outside of campus and how day-to-day interaction in regular, adult working live really works. They literally have no perspective to put their insane statements in, they don't have any clue what it would actually mean to enforce such systems in real, everyday life
I'm looking forward to all these guys getting a rude awakening when they go into an actual working environment (that is if they SOMEHOW make it past the basic interview). Heres hoping they kick up a big stink when it happens, we always need more popcorn material.
How is calling a black person 'articulate' supposed to be a microagression? Like, I can wrap my head around the rest (in a vague sense) but that one just makes no sense.
I guess it's some shite along the lines of being surprised or complimenting someone of a minority for something basic? I don't know. I've honestly no clue at all anymore
How is calling a black person 'articulate' supposed to be a microagression? Like, I can wrap my head around the rest (in a vague sense) but that one just makes no sense.
It's an assumption on the part of the person being offended, they're assuming you say that because deep down you think all blacks aren't articulate, otherwise why would you make it a point of saying this one black person is articulate.
It has it's roots in 60s and 70s grass roots movements, American ones, to be specific. Ours actually were beneficial to society and is the reason why a kid can go to school today without indebting their family and being subject to a system of corporal punishment. These guys spawned what later gave birth to this monstrous shitbaby that is the social justice movement. By now I am starting to get vague ideas that some sort of mind parasite or some sort of contagious mental illness is at play here.
dude me and my friend had the same idea, but it was an alien parasite
dude me and my friend had the same idea, but it was an alien parasite
Yeah that is also what I have been thinking.
Keep in mind these are young Californian college students and they're even more likely to be hyper-progressive hippie babies than their counterparts in the midwest and east coast Having lived on the east coast all my life and going to university in a major state school, I haven't really seen much of these types. They exist for sure, but to say that it's the norm for college aged kids is stretching it I think. I'm pretty sure this is just another case of a loud and influential minority.
How is calling a black person 'articulate' supposed to be a microagression? Like, I can wrap my head around the rest (in a vague sense) but that one just makes no sense.
I can see how some of these phrases could be microagressions, but it depends on the context and a lot of people just don't even consider that. I can ask a asian person where they're from or call a black person articulate and not mean anything by it, but there are definitely people that can say those in a way that come off as racist. These people don't seem to know the difference between calling a minority articulate and ironically calling a minority articulate. Which isn't very hard because if you've met my family you can fucking see how harmless phrases get turned into something that's really offensive.
snip wrong thread
So glad my Uni (UTK) doesn't have any of this bullshit, but as Wealth+Taste said the east coast is pretty clean of most of the PC mentality (And all of the loud minorities are the ones taking the spotlight). These people need to know that the real world isn't going to coddle them, they need to adjust to actual professional life. I've yet to see anyone really hold up all this crap in engineering, it always seems to be Liberal Arts or Poly Sci majors.
of course the phrase could be offensive in a certain context anything can be offensive in the right context that doesn't make the phrase itself inherently offensive
so then what the fuck is wrong with these people
this is a liberal arts college in case anyone missed that this isnt common across unis
so then what the fuck is wrong with these people
These seems like a relatively easy way of reflecting their rhetoric against them. "Is calling someone articulate a microaggression?" "Possibly." "What if I called a black person articulate?" "Yes." "I lied, the person's white. Is it still a microaggression?" "[Error 404: Safe Space not found]"

thank god i dont see much of this being at a tech school
I lost it at "the most qualified applicant" question. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN FUNCTION IN REAL LIFE?! Does that mean I can give them a plate of SHIT made by someone who doesn't knows a thing about cooking if it means that there will be more diversity at the workplace instead of having a white guy that can actually cook good stuff?! Does that mean they will ask for some intern who just started being an accountant to do their taxes and risk fucking it all up if it means it wont be a white person who, for the sake of this example, actually has experience in doing taxes for companies?! Holy fucking jesus-- OH! SHIT! Grow a fucking backbone. In the real world, people will chew you up until you're bones if you have this mentality.

lol these people are all going to work at the wendys anyways who cares.
Is America going to turn into Sweden and slowly cuck itself out of its native citizens own rights?
Retort, "Define racism for me."
"Cultural, economic, and political forces designed to keep certain races--in our society, white people--in power at the expense of other races--in our society, people of color."
I can see why saying "All Lives Matter" would be a dick move, because as the woman said, the slogan was created to specifically highlight police brutality against black people, but it's not a fucking "microaggression". The rest are laughable. You can tell that one of the guys doesn't agree with it at all but isn't saying it because he doesn't want to be singled out. There comes a point where liberalism circles back on itself and you start limiting free speech. Obviously saying things like "Kill all Jews" isn't okay but you have to draw a line somewhere.
We need to grow a pair. Sure calling an asian a chink or black guy a nigger is offensive but saying that "God Bless You" might offend people? That's nuts. In the U.S. only really see this political correct garbage in college students anyways, which is another thing South Park seemed to nail last season.

Obviously saying things like "Kill all Jews" isn't okay but you have to draw a line somewhere.
It's not even liberalism really, it's something else. Like, I do like horseshoe theory in this sense, but I naturally don't understand how one can walk along the line of "Everyone should have a right to express their opinion" to arrive at "some opinions should be banned from being expressed" and not make a turn somewhere. And not notice that turn.
Is America going to turn into Sweden and slowly cuck itself out of its native citizens own rights?
After we get a president elected only based on their Gender/Race and not their political views.

Like, I'm an atheist, of the sort that don't even understand how can someone actually genuinely believe in supernatural stuff (maybe that makes me stupid idk), and I find myself unable to imagine how that can be offensive. What kind of pussy does one have to be? [editline]24th December 2015[/editline] Damn it, RIP merge
"Cultural, economic, and political forces designed to keep certain races--in our society, white people--in power at the expense of other races--in our society, people of color."
Only move at that point is to walk away, there's no point in further debate if their definition of racism is anything other than one (any) race being perceived as superior to another - they're incapable of seeing their basic argument is corrupt. You could try citing the dictionary definition of racism for them, but they'd probably just say it was written by the oppressive white regime v:v:v
How is calling a black person 'articulate' supposed to be a microagression? Like, I can wrap my head around the rest (in a vague sense) but that one just makes no sense.
This is the kind of racism that regressive-left thinking causes.
