It varies. A lot of police departments will allow officers to have tattoos as long as they don't cover (usually) >40% of the body part it is on. Check your local PD's website.
A friend of mine got into a job where they find tattoos questionable. It's on his back, that's all.

Secondly I feel I should point out that I am in no way a tattoo expert. I have none of my own tattoos because the law prevents it from being so (however I do plan on getting some.) and thus I can only guess how recent these tattoos are but to me they look at least 20+ years old.
If you where to show me this picture and tell me that this is what my tattoos will look like in twenty years time I would be pretty damn pleased however I was unable to locate examples of ink that has
aged well or badly so I may be completely understating the chances that a tattoo will go bad over time.

When I join the Coast Guard I want to get the shield tatoo on my back and a small tatoo in the shape of a stamp saying "Property of the U.S. Government".
Tattoos that are only words are dumb. Even if it's a design incorporating words, it's very hard to make it not look stupid.

Yea when you're 60 you should still be a top model. Think of how stupid the tattoos would look, with you looking absolutely fantastic!
I have 5 tattoos and some are pretty big, I've never had trouble getting a job.

I'm getting a smoother variation of that, so it isn't the aperture science logo, but it's just an aperture. I'm going to get it on my inner forearm, toward the top. I want it because I love photography.
