That is one satisfied engineer.

*slowly drives up behind cheetah robot* *does nothing* heh nothing personal DARPA

Russia's military is busy building autonomous tanks, unmanned vehicles and other weapons one won't be ashamed of in the 21st century. Vladimir Putin visited a Research Institute outside Moscow and was shown a combat robot. Here's what he saw.
even the RT description sounds so tongue in cheek
I can already picture those things being used by law enforcement. Oh boy.

When I saw and heard about the robotic "cheetah", my first thought was "Panzerhund" since I've been playing Wolfenstein: The New Order recently, and my second thought was of these kinds of machines leaping over rocks pursuing Taliban members with a built-in machine-gun.
I could easily imagine someone designing one of these robots to have a taser-like "bite" and an interchangeable array of nonlethal ordinance like tranq darts or beanbag blasters or even a tear gas cannon. It's probably decades away from being anywhere near as versatile as Blade Wolf (what could possibly pull off those kinds of moves?), but having robotic crowd-control "dogbots" like this probably wouldn't be too outlandish.
I can't wait until robotic horse riding becomes a real sport.

Mecha-lacrosse would probably be the shit. But one thing I wonder is whether having a mechanical "steed" with legs would have enough of an advantage over a motorbike or humvee to have robot horses play a part on the military stage, bringing back the notion of cavalry.
The factor of having legs would probably make it easier to climb uneven terrain if it were designed like a mountain goat, although legs would be an easy target for ballistics, explosives, or even a high-tech bolas. Plus there's the matter of having a good power supply, since legs are probably too complex a system to be driven by a combustion engine alone, unless said engine acts as a generator for converting petrol into electrical energy. (thinking of that, a mechanical horse powered by gasoline sounds so fucking dieselpunk)

And tear. Whenever there's rip, you can NEVER forget tear.
Man, now I wish there was a fighting game with a pair of psychopathic killer "little people" called Rip and Tear, where you control both of them as one character and one of their moves is one of them throwing the other at the enemy. It'd be like if Tim Tom & Kevin from The Venture Bros were in Mortal Kombat.
Get on that shit, NetherRealm Studios!
Also before we have AI-driven dogbots as part of the police arsenal, we still need to figure out how to design an AI that can properly distinguish between friend and foe without having to wear a goddamn I.D badge. Hell, even with the badges there's probably a chance that one of the dogbots would go ED-209 on some unlucky executive like Mr Kinney.
being this kind of engineer seems like such a fulfilling job
cool as hell
I guess a lot of us have been playing wolfenstein lately

And rightly so, it's a damn good shooter even without multiplayer. Old Blood might not have been as stellar as New Order, but it was still a fine experience.
