You shouldn't take a job you hate, but at 17 you won't be getting a job that involves driving. There's far too much liability.
My advice would be to get a job at a restaurant or store that delivers. When you're old enough to do a job that involves driving you'll already have one. In a year trucking might be an option if you want to gain 50kg.
Working in a cafe isn't so bad.
I'm in a position where I don't need to work at all, but I do it anyway for pretty much two reasons:
A. I want to be somewhat independent from my parents; if I earn my own money, they really have no say in what I can use them for.
B. It's much easier to get a job later on if you have work experience. Even if it's something simple.
Really, just go out and get a job. At least here in Denmark, the minimum wage is lower for minors - that means that you can get a lot of jobs that you won't be able to get in just one year. So either you can get a job now and earn some money, or you can wait till you're done with your education, and then lack the perks that comes with work experience.
If you got a job at a golf course you could probably drive a lot...
If you got a job at a golf course you could probably drive a lot...
I actually live on a golf course. Thats a good idea. How did I not think of that.
When I was 17 I just emailed lots of family or independently ran companies and got a job that way, still work for the same guy 4 years later.
Also stop being a spoilt little twat.
I've worked every shit job I could get since I was 15 to help support my parents. That's right, I gave money to my parents - not the other way around. You should consider yourself lucky and use that help you get to better yourself.
Because I busted my ass, I am 21 and have a job working on an equal level with people who are 30+. And now I get to sit here and laugh at people who have no money but at the same time bitch about how they want some sort of illusive easy dream job.
Grow a pair, grow up and get a god damn job.
Someone probably already said it but Dominoes are always looking for drivers, Pizzahut will even get you training and insurance for a moped in some places.
Here's a lesson in not being picky.
I just went from shit job, to shit job after I got a pretty damn good set of A-Levels. Just walked in most places and was given a job. Not luck. I just felt I worked hard enough at school to have that happen. Even worked in a Holiday Park that was owned by a guy with an AMG Mercedes Black, but couldn't afford to fix the two dozen leaks.
I didn't want to go on the dole. I just hate relying on people.
Retail was when life hit the skids. People are annoying, and I like that they're annoying but as soon as I'm working in a supermarket I hate them. All. Die. Now. Please. Do it.
Thought I'd be there for a year back when I was 18 but ended up being there a lot longer.
Now I can honestly say I have no regrets. I'm doing a job I love and I'm going back into the person I was a few years back. Just enjoying everything, looking back at my experiences and loving my variety of jobs instead of going to university (which I still believe I could have excelled at, but no regrets). And I like the stupid public again too.
I'm 22 later this week and I just see things getting better and better in the next couple of years.
Fecking jinxed it now :D

Not everyone has identical situations etc
I really should write up a couple paragraphs on this and make a keyboard macro of it
Man the fuck up and stop being a fucking prince and get a job in retail or food service
I legitimately believe everyone should at some point in their life work at a job like that because it can teach you many many things. Valuable life skills. I hate when i meet people like you because you seem to have this "better than you" complex. Like suddenly i'm a lowly person because i work at a minimum wage job at a young age. Sorry i wasn't born into a more financially secure family or have connections or was a ceo of a small company by the time i was 25. Lets completely ignore that your job at age 17 doesn't have to reflect you or who you are or what you can do.
It's a stepping stone, just to get some cash on the side, get a part time minimum wage job, meet new people, learn some new skills, and man the fuck up.
I've been working since i was 12, both minimum wage jobs. I've been at the same place for 3 years and I'm making shit money and i do a lot of work. Does it suck? Yeah i guess it sort of does. Do i regret taking it? Not at fucking all. I met so many new people, i made several new friends. I directly attribute where i am in life to my job. It pushed me out of my comfort zones and made me into less of a bitch. I was incredibly shy among many other things and through working this minimum wage job it taught me to snap out of it and learn how to take control of situations.
Do i get shitty customers? Yeah, you always will regardless of your job. I don't care though, it gives me a story to tell people of the time i had to duck a punch from a drunkard who got enraged after i told him he had to leave. Because of my job i'm voluntarily paying for a good portion of my university requirements. My parents happily paid my tuition after a few loans and i'm insisting i pay for my own books, food, clothes, and equipment. I'm not going to be working this job for my life, i'm going to school (like i said above using money i get from this job), a very good school, so i can graduate and move up in life.
My main point here is to NEVER THINK A JOB IS BELOW YOU. That is the most arrogant enraging thing i can ever hear someone say. You will never be above any job ever, the only jobs you could ever be above is literal slave labor and that's only because that's below human treatment. When i say literal slave labor i mean literally being a slave with no rights, not "i can't believe i have to work a 10 hour shift at this shitty job".
Stop whining (and you are whining even if you don't mean it. If you aren't realizing this then you could at least realize how pompous and pretentious you are being) and just take a job as a pizza delivery man or work at a grocery store or something. Just because it's manual labor or foodservice doesn't mean it's horrible or that you're above it. By thinking you're above it and refusing to do it, that means you're horrible and a whiny entitled kid.
Work as a waiter for some place or maybe look into becoming a barback or something, anything works really. I'm 20 and haven't had a job yet but that's only because I'm in a shitty small town that is all suburb and has hardly any commercial areas at all and I'm currently a full time student, either you find a job or just stick with college for the meantime. But I do know loads of people including me use this site for some extra cash:
https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome
You won't become rich off of it but there are tons of surveys that pay $1-$6. It isn't all that bad.
This thread makes me cringe
I sell my semen.
How the hell do you rack up a credit card bill that huge? Seriously, what you get for selling stuff on ebay should be enough for you to get some nice stuff like an average used car and random stuff like a computer or a console or whatever you might want to buy for your entertainment.
Firstly, cut your spendings as much as you can... No wait, what the fuck, how the hell did you get that huge credit card debt?!
Oh shit, your parents also give you money? Holy shit OP.
Compared to you, I work like a dog. You know what I do? I sleep till the afternoon, eat and play the rest of the day.
Difference? I don't ask for cash from my parents, and am looking for a job. I AM being picky, but thats because I'm not at the "last resort time" quite yet. Mind you, I'd rather have a job at a factory moving heavy shit instead of being in front of a computer. I could get a job at GAME but instead I'm looking at factories. I also don't have a car yet, and when I do get a car?... No no, it wont be that sweet ass used Lexus I've been eyeing, nor will it be that del Sol either... It's gonna be some economic piece of shit from decades past for like 1000€
Why are you even thinking about a new car when you can't get a job and ALREADY have a car, and some debt? That shit boggles my mind OP.
Wow, OP I don't think you are responsible enough to have a job.
You sound really lazy.
Just getting voluntary work in the UK is pretty hard let me tell you that much since you are competing with other people just to say you have work experience let alone getting an actual paying job is a whole different struggle.
No one will hire someone that considers going to thrift stores or charity shops to sell tat for a profit on ebay a job.
Take what you can get. Because to me it just sounds a little immature. Saying you want work but you want work that you like. That simply isn't the world we live in. I have many friends working in fast food that want shifts but can't get them. Yeah and they don't even like flipping burgers. You believe it?
Fair enough I know work is a pain the ass. I used to shovel horse shit around through summer and winter with really unpredictable hours and didn't get a penny for my hard work. I don't even like horses but it is all I could get within my reach.
Then go home on public transport since I can't even afford a car. On top of doing a college course and all I got was £30 a week and that was EMA to buy stuff for college.
Plus sitting at home isn't going to pay off a new car. You need to save for it. You can't just walk into a high paying job.
I think you are a whiny girl, so i went on youtube and freestyled about you.

Retail jobs aren't bad at all. At 17, that's pretty much tops when compared to fast food jobs.
Poor little flower.
17 and already in debt.
At 17 I was lucky to have $10.
I had a telemarketing job that paid me 20 dollars an hour, and also labor jobs where I got 14-16 dollars an hour plus bonuses :v:

Yea when I worked in retail it was fun as all i had to do was run around finding shit for customers and bullshitting about products in a convincing manner.
I've been looking for a job for 3 months
Good luck finding one at all.
Get a CDL and deliver supplys to big companys. Its what I do, You have to be comfy driving big ass trucks and ruining peoples days by running yield signs because your a tank and dont give a shit. Dead men don't talk (Its what I learned fron the others at least) Im 18 (19 on tuesday) and I make about 30k a year already so that salary isn't bad for my age. Specially since i have hardly any bills (Live with my parents) I pay about 300 for rent, 100 for food (Sometimes less/more) and about 100 for etc (Netflix, pandora) So over a year I spend 6-7k in all my bills leaving about 23k frew for myself (Which I'll be honest. Im not proper with it.)
How did you do this? Every trucking company I've looked into wants you to be over 21.
How do you even get a credit card at 17? I thought most places require you to be at least 18.
Right now I kinda work for myself by driving around to thrift stores and flea markets buying up stuff to sell on ebay. I make about $500 a month but just about all that money goes towards my credit card bill and its a shaky form of income.
Well if you didn't somehow spend 500 fucking dollars a month on that you'd actually be in a pretty good spot, 500 bucks a month is a lot more than most 17 year olds are making.
You're probably getting hate because of your mentality.
1. you expect a high paying job to get a car. When really most people want to get off their parents back and make their own living. Before being a burden.
2. you expect to get work you like. Most places these days you can't just walk in. Hell try asking places if they have jobs going. They will send you away. You most likely get shitty work that you will hate.
3. You took out a credit card with no work going. That is a pretty dumb thing to do. It should be work them consider a credit card if you can even afford to put stuff on it and pay it off.
Hell, I can't even get a credit card I have to buy things with my own money rather than owing a bank.
I have a feeling your parents pay off your debts.
You gotta stop being so picky, dude. Because that awesome job you're over-qualified for is probably going to someone else anyways. In the last 8 months I've had interviews ranging from a barista at minimum wage, to tech support that payed 18/hr. the job market is a finicky bitch that you can't be picky with.
My first job was spinning signs 7 hours a day in 115 degree weather. Now, I'm transcribing audio for television shows. Take what you can get.
My first job was painting fences for $12-$13 depending on the people, except it wasn't really a "real" job.
work in a cafe or a coffee shop.

Be picky TO AN EXTENT.
Choose a few things you definitely don't want to work as, but accept that you might still have to take some profession you find boring or tedious.
credit card at 17, what?
