Face it OP, life isn't going to be cooshy all the time. You are going to have to do things you don't want to.
I want to get a job because I like money. Im 17 years old and I can drive. I do not want to work in the food industry or do something shitty. I like driving and being on the road but im 17 so I think that limits my options. I tired getting a job with my grandfather at a rental car agency moving cars around but you need to be 19 to do that. Right now I kinda work for myself by driving around to thrift stores and flea markets buying up stuff to sell on ebay. I make about $500 a month but just about all that money goes towards my credit card bill and its a shaky form of income. I take care of my own Finances, I have a bank, ebay, and credit card. My parents give me about $150 a month for cost of living. With all of that I find myself breaking about even every month but the problem is im looking to buy a new car and it would require a car payment of ~ $130 a month. Ideas, Opinions?
I agree about not working in the fast food industry, I'll never do it. There's plenty of easy to get jobs at 17 though, most of them will either be manual labor or retail though so be prepared for that.
How do you have credit card debt at 17?
I was picky. I was able to find jobs, and afford a new car at that age. If you're determined, it is possible. Also, to all the people telling him how to live his life or what he does and does not need - shut the fuck up. It is his decision. Just because you didn't or couldn't, doesn't mean he can't.
work in food service doesn't suck as much as people make it out to be I work at Dunkin' Donuts / Baskin Robbins and have for a coupla months now and it's really not terrible at all.
When I was 17 I had a manual labour job in a warehouse, loved it so much that I'm still there, don't make much money but I don't care because I enjoy it.
I take care of my own Finances

My parents give me about $150 a month
Wow you are so cool and adult.
When I was 17 I had a manual labour job in a warehouse, loved it so much that I'm still there, don't make much money but I don't care because I enjoy it.
You're somebody I have respect for, finding a job that you enjoy and that contributes to society. I seldom spend money, but those Steam sales sometimes. I'm trusted with my parent's credit card and have not fucked up yet.
Retail jobs aren't bad at all. At 17, that's pretty much tops when compared to fast food jobs.
I'd kill for a retail job. I almost gone one at Sharper Image. Dumbass me gave the wrong answer, will regret it forever.
Since you said you enjoy driving, I would recommend a delivery driver. Although there may be other responsibilities along with it, some people actually make a living with the tips they receive.
Grown men who have families can't even pick their jobs more than half the time (unless they went to post secondary schooling, even then they sometimes can't). Working is great, and if you can get a job anywhere at all, go for it. You're young and I'm assuming you still live with your parents, consider this a good time to find out what kind of work field you enjoy. If you give fast food a chance, you may find out that it is a field you're interested in. You may like the fast paced work environment of it. Or, you might like working in grocery store. I know it sounds shitty, but I just landed a part time job at one (I need to pay the bills). It wasn't the first job I would have liked, but I took it anyway, because at this point in life a job is a job. You'll learn eventually that sometimes in life, you have to take what you can get.
You're 17, so be happy if you're even going to get a job. I'm 17 and work at a locally owned grocery store(Though it is closing, so I'm applying everywhere). Retail, fast food, etc, just take the damn job. Honestly, the government likes to be our parent and not allow us teenagers to do anything besides stock shelves and use a register. Take what you get, trust me, you won't find a job with your attitude.
I'll have an Old Fashioned

Pint of lager please.
£6.83 please lads, paying together? fucking penny off alcohol.
nigga your 17, you arent going to become some fucking millionaire.
I worked at a pizza place and then an amusement park, both were annoying but were an experience. It won't kill you and you'll have extra money. Plus they help you get real jobs in the future. (I did have to be over 20 to work at the amusement park though..)
I make about $500 a month but just about all that money goes towards my credit card bill

I take care of my own Finances
At least one of these statements is false.
Honestly if there's a value village, savers, or goodwill or another thrift shop or some shit near you apply there. You're pretty much guaranteed a position. Don't fucking work the floor though, work operations it's way better imo but that's because I hate dealing with bitchy costumers
OP needs to get the fuck over himself. I'm 20 and I work night shifts at mcdonald's and do full-time university at the same time. Would I like to work a different job? Probably, IT would be nice and I'm 3rd year computer science so you'd think I'm qualified for that type of work. Does anyone want to hire? Fuck no. The job market is terrible at the moment, nobody can afford to be picky. Take what you get and fucking be thankful for it. Fast food gives me a roof over my head and food to eat, even then it doesn't cover my bills so I still need to scab off my parents to keep the power on. I'm gettin' real tired of entitled fucks who think they deserve to get the world on a platter. You want a job? Start at the bottom like everyone else. I'm kinda regretting doing computer science, all the jobs require 3+ years of experience. Even entry level jobs require industry experience. I really don't know what they're gonna do when the current generation of programmers and shit retire, they'll have literally no new experienced workers because nobody wants to take risks and hire newbies.
I got a job, got laid off, busted my ass biking a few km every day handing out lots of resumes for 2 1/2 months, finally got an interview at walmart and now I start work on the 4th. Life sucks sometimes but you just have to suck it up and keep trying. [editline]26th March 2013[/editline]
OP needs to get the fuck over himself. I had to ask :v
Prostitute yourself.
Can I speak on behalf of all the people who work their fucking asses off in shitty jobs / work their fucking asses off in university and barely make ends meet in their twenties and don't even have the energy to tell the op how much of a giant turd he is for thinking he's better than that while he's hawking shit on ebay for extra cookie money while still living with this parents?
My first job was doing hard labor for this old man near my house for $5 an hour. And this hard labor, it's not just like, little tasks, once I had to lift probably 150+ bricks in a cart with 3 flat tires up a 40 degree slope for 15 meters. Quit crying.
When I was 17 and had just entered college, I got a job with the campus library doing tech support on the campus AV equipment. Several years on it's still my main source of income while at class. While on the one hand I agree with everyone saying you can't be picky, the truth is that you don't have to get a job in foodservice or retail. There are other options but you're going to have to look long and hard for them.
busted my ass biking a few km every day
thats like the tour de france
lmao I'm 20 and I had to save up for a year just to buy a 1996 honda to be fair I paid entirely in cash (and whew is it underwhelming to carry $4000 in cash) but lol, OP, you have problems if you want a new car that bad. learn to love the car you have. I certainly love mine
If delivering pizzas doesn't sound too great, you could try delivering for someone like Jimmy John's.That's what I do and the work environment is prett laid-back. Also, from what I've heard, the tips are much better than pizza delivery. On average, I make about $10 per hour from tips. Only about a quarter to 1/3 of that goes to gas.
I spent last summer cleaning toilets. I can honestly say, at £8/hr it's the best job Ive ever had, thus far. Takes little to no effort and the other folks I worked with were in the same boat as me, students desperately in need of cash so it was a good laugh. Currently I'm studying games art and will be looking to apply with some studios next year. You got to go the shit to get to the good stuff. Got some funny stories out of it as well, like emptying a bin on the girls floor and suddenly realising the bag I used now had a small pool of menstrual blood from all the used tampons in it.
thats like the tour de france
Well it was around 2-3 hours of constant biking every dam day so yeah.

Also good luck with your game career search.
I've been looking for a job for 3 months Good luck finding one at all.
Took me 'bout a month and a half of hard work with relatively no experience. It all depends on where you are and what you're willing to do. I've learned that Craigslist was the fastest way to get interviews; but it's all about the right place and right time. Retail places are usually big enough to not give a shit or be desperate for hires.
