OP needs to get the fuck over himself.
I'm 20 and I work night shifts at mcdonald's and do full-time university at the same time.
Would I like to work a different job? Probably, IT would be nice and I'm 3rd year computer science so you'd think I'm qualified for that type of work. Does anyone want to hire? Fuck no. The job market is terrible at the moment, nobody can afford to be picky. Take what you get and fucking be thankful for it. Fast food gives me a roof over my head and food to eat, even then it doesn't cover my bills so I still need to scab off my parents to keep the power on.
I'm gettin' real tired of entitled fucks who think they deserve to get the world on a platter. You want a job? Start at the bottom like everyone else.
I'm kinda regretting doing computer science, all the jobs require 3+ years of experience. Even entry level jobs require industry experience. I really don't know what they're gonna do when the current generation of programmers and shit retire, they'll have literally no new experienced workers because nobody wants to take risks and hire newbies.
Don't give up, you'll get a lead soon. I recently got a part-time job in IT (though I don't do computer science) which pays way over minimum wage.
You won't get a good job that you really want until you have some experience, so take a shitty job and gain some, it's money. I worked at a grocery store for my first job, working for minimum wage, and that was when I was 14. Just do it.
Speaking of which, that job I found is only good because of the hours. Full-time plus lots of overtime. My usual days are 9-12 hours. If you can manage the thought of coming home, eating food, having an hour, and doing it again; all week, then labor/warehouse jobs are for you.
It's tough work, but you feel accomplished and you rarely have to deal with asshole customers unless you shift over into a position that handles them. Just be careful, all (work)shop/warehouse places are different. Some are fucking excellent with nice people and are relatively clean. Some have bottom-of-the-barrel people with no AC or air filters that turn black in 5 days when they're rated for three weeks.
After hearing literally everyone say fast food or retail is the worlds worst, especially my brother who worked at a terribly managed KFC and understaffed... this thread taught me to take a shitty job when there's a shitty job to ruin your feels.

I turned down a job at a mine with 15-hour shifts for two weeks at a time, with two weeks off between them.
The wages seemed too good to be true but when you factor in how you have no free time and how you're only getting paid for half the month, the value of your paycheque for the job you're doing is shit. The only possible benefit is lots of vacation time - book a 2-week set off and you have 6 weeks to yourself.

Retail is fine as long as it's grocery. Working in produce or meat is great, but stocking toys and video games sucks. With the former you get to do a lot of stuff behind the scenes, prepping food and the like.

In the current state of things, a job's a job when you're that young, really.
I worked at a lunch kitchen when I was 14, I quit after a month because my manager would play jokes on me, telling me I was fired via text and then get angry when I wouldn't show up.
I got paid 6 an hour off the books. But damn it I know I wanted the money. Work where you can.
Later I got a job at a local farm-stand for 8 off the books. Good manual labor and 13 hour shifts on the weekend (27 hour weeks with HS.) There is no easy job you can do when you are starting out.
Currently I work at my high school doing the lights for plays and concerts. If your HS pays for that then definitely take it up. I got 7.15 my first year (on the books) and 8.19 my second. Easiest job I have ever had.

Never work off the books
You will get screwed if you do it long enough

Never got screwed at the farmstand, he gave me a raise on the first day and always over payed me on pay day. Super nice staff and they admired my work ethic. Although I understand your point, this place was an exception.
Get a guard card, and try for some part time security guard positions. That is if you are up for it.

I've been considering this for a while, do you have your guard card? Can I PM you with questions?
You're a little bitch ass.
stop being such a pussy and apply everywhere you can. best advice I ever got and has landed me many opportunities.

Same thats what i did to first find work.
Best thing you can do is get a CV and start handing them out
-snip!-
Retail has lots of turnover, so even if they don't have an opening now they will soon. Take what you can get, it's a stepping stone to something better. It shows you can work.
At least you are able to find a job, OP.
Where I live, the only job that is not taken yet is pretty much just standing in middle of the street and bothering people with fliers. Since I am not an attractive young lady, that job is not an option for me.
Throw away the credit card or hide it somewhere.
Get a debit card for christ sake, you are spending money that you dont have
By the way guys, OP probably isn't even reading this thread anymore.
Why are you bumping it then?
M8 anything is better than my job laying Sod in the middle of summer, 107F(42C?) with 90% humidity and your sweating your brains out. Honestly if you find a job you enjoy you wont work a day in your life.
just wait till you're 18 all kinds of options will open up
not a picky bitch
just a whiny spoiled bitch

Right now I kinda work for myself by driving around to thrift stores and flea markets buying up stuff to sell on ebay. I make about $500 a month
Damn son that's gre-
but just about all that money goes towards my credit card bill and its a shaky form of income.
Fuck you poor yank bastards have it rough, i know a few people aged 15-16 earning 13-16 bucks and hour (When over there there's adults living off less than that) .
Here in Australia they have a program for students in secondary college to go on work experience, at the time i was considering doing an apprenticeship doing furniture making. So i go to this workshop in town where two old guys work, i worked there for a week and was paid 5 bucks a day. It sucked, i had to transfer rubbish from two 3x3 meter rubbish bins about 1.5 - 2 meters tall into a skip bin around the same height as i am with no gloves (fucking grimy slime waste that's been sitting at the bottom with slugs and worms, fucking disgusting). While i was doing that i considered telling the man to go stick the job where it fits and walk home, but i decided to stick it out to see how it goes. Not much else happened, he explained to me that couldn't do much seeing as i wasn't an apprentice and all so i don't really blame him, i did heaps of other mind numbing crap involving shovelling saw dust etc. Now i've decided to stick at school. I currently work at selling fairy floss with in the family business, earn $20 and hour so i'm happy, but i only work at events so the work is sporadic.
i worked there for a week and was paid 5 bucks a day
Why is that legal
Why is that legal
Work experience, the law is that we get paid at least $5. I wasn't really expecting to get paid, more just find out what working in furniture making was about. Another factor i have to weigh in is if i get an apprenticeship you are treated like shit by everyone until you've finished it, i don't think i could handle that, i'd snap.
When you bring CV on place you dont think to you can be surprised, i would also hate to work in a mcdonald, with patience i made it to be a musical equipement guard, truck driver twice, electronic dismantler/destroyer, and my favorite is being a marshaller for large commercial aircraft, all this within 2-3 years.
While I agree that you shouldn't be a picky bitch, I think some pickyness is good. I think your first work experiences shouldn't be utter shite, like mine were. But I guess there is no choice.
My very first job was pulling out weed from bushes for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. It sucked massively and the 3 weeks I spent there felt like a year. The first feeling I got towards the word "work" was utter hate. Next job was a construction worker except I mostly threw broken down wood into bins for 8 hours a day. I did this for like 6 months (couldn't get into schools one year) and I just wanted to kill myself every time the alarm clock woke me up.
Now that I have a profession and a job that fits into it, work's been great, even fun. It gets better. Keep saying that to yourself.
I've been considering this for a while, do you have your guard card? Can I PM you with questions?
Sure man. I do and you can. I've been through the whole process and got hired about a month ago. It's great.
In my own biased opinion I think working security beat retail and food service. That is I'm also 6'3, fit, clean cut and basically fit the profile perfectly.
