I'm from the UK, i can own one but it's illegal to buy sell or trade here but atm I'm in Thailand and can buy knives off street vendors so i thought i might get a leather man/ utility knife and balisong, if they get confiscated from my checked luggage I'll just play dumb
Playing dumb doesnt work. Anything you buy there from a street vender is either stolen or counterfeit. Buy something legal back in the UK.
Just put it in a checked luggage bag and its not a problem
...right?
"Did you pack your own luggage?" You say yes and they find it then youre fucked. You say no, then theyll definitely search your bag and find it and you'll probably still be fucked.
Oh wait balisongs are actually illegal? What?
Theyre no more dangerous than kitchen knives, they just look cool while opening. Why is that dangerous enough to make them illegal?
Got to look at the Norinco Type 81 today. Pretty nice rifle, well built, takes down like an AK. Safety isn't the most ergonomic though. If it had optics capabilities I'd buy it, but ATM the importer only has a prototype quad-rail forend, and I want more of an AK-style side mount. Still debating buying it anyways, but it's $1000...

Same reason why switchblades, auto openers, spring assisted are illegal in many areas:
Mostly bullshit
I just looked up balisong restrictions, holy shit what a laugh.
Once again, glorious sd is shown to be best state. Not a single knife law. They even repealed the "no ballistic knives" law.
Brb finding a ballistic knife.

They're in a limbo zone here but aren't strictly illegal like ballistic, gravity, and switchblades

My Kershaw does everything I need and fits the legal terms in about every state while being easy as fuck to open and pretty cheap.

Looks pretty reasonable to me. He probably should've had them running, though. Best way to train.
I personally hate leatherman style gadgets anymore. Bunch of mediocre tools in a heavy package. I'd rather keep a good knife, and have proper screwdrivers/pliers nearby if I need them.
don't take the chance, use your money on non-shit knives back in the uk instead.a leatherman is good, but balisongs are really just worthless
Butterflies are a bit of a gimmick, but I wouldn't call them worthless. They are honestly amazing when you're dealing with mud/dirt because you can clean them by knocking them back and forth a few times, and you can do it one handed. Good ones are typically overbuilt so they handle sheering and twisting very well. Fixed blades obviously will handle that better, but a good butterfly will handle anything that isn't using it as a dedicated pry tool just fine, possibly better than most standard folders (really depends on what the latch mechanisms are).
You just have to keep in mind that a a decent butterfly is going to be quite expensive relative to a decent standard folder, or fixed blade. The bushings need to be able to handle serious amounts of sheering forces and torque, and the tolerances on all the moving parts are considerably tighter. Both of those dramatically increase the cost. Then add in the fact that if you want them to spin decently, they need to be balanced very carefully, and you quickly wind up with a bit of a clusterfuck in terms of design.
A shit butterfly is fucking dangerous and stupid, and you should never buy one. Even if the bushings don't fail, they won't be balanced right, and that's still dangerous.
Don't even think about one unless you're willing to spend a couple hundred on a good one. It's not worth slicing your palm to the bone and having to go get surgery so they can pull your tendons back out of your wrist and reattach them to your fingers.

He also let the leftmost guy get way way ahead of everybody else, enough that he was well within the firing lane for the next person over.

You're right, they weren't close enough imho. How are you going to recreate a high-stress situation if you aren't shoulder-to-shoulder?

They should just shoot each other to simulate real life situations and how to respond and shoot back when hit too

People told me my KABAR was a bad purchase but I've used it as a crowbar, grill tool, hammer to hang paintings, heated it up to close plastics and such, obviously as a knife. Most useful $80 tool I've ever bought.

When the gun went off I literally jumped. I'd have walked right out and made safe in another bay or the parking lot. Fuuuck that noise.
I finally found a really nice Martini Henry Mk.II, it's a short chamber Boxer-Henry 45 caliber miracle.

The little black fleck in the barrel is just a bit of dust.
Also made like 200 shells to start loading.

Hey, RR_Raptor, haven't seen you in a while. I almost bought a .303 Martini Henry from IMA recently but ended up, well, not doing it.
That rifling looks better than some of my 2000s guns. Go figure.

You could tell the dumbass was going to shoot it as soon as he cocked it and had it pointed up like that. God it's so easy to avoid this kind of shit and it's infuriating to see. If i ever go to a range and I see a range officer acting anywhere near this manner, they've lost my business.

Yeah been busy with work and settling into a new house, getting some better income to spend on fun stuff, always wanted a Martini-Henry so I snapped that thing up. Built a reloading bench a few weeks ago.

Lots of fun making the brass too, not nearly as hard as people say it is to be honest, it's just a matter of getting a good workflow. I got powder and a bullet mould coming tomorrow so I can start loading.
I hear the .303 Martinis are great rifles as long as they aren't Afghan conversions, wouldn't mind coming across one of those some day. I'm thinkin I'll try and find a Mk.IV in a few months though.
Hey, do we have any machinists? I need a striker made for my Erma, real tiny part. I can only find one guy who has them but he wants $35 for it and it'll be just as old and worn as the one that just broke so I'd rather get a new one made. Maybe two...

Depends how complex it is, and how easy to fixture it is. Give me more info, if it's simple enough I might be able to sneak it in on a weekend. No promises on timeliness though, im really busy during the week, and I've got a weekend project welding fixture to make for a motorcycle head that I'm just now getting around to.
It's a bit more complicated a part than I remembered and I'm having trouble taking pictures of it to show it. I certainly can't take meaningful measurements of it, I don't have a micrometer or anything. Will probably have to have this done locally after all.

Daily reminder they unironically tried to justify this.
Shit like that should get FFLs revoked, they're going to seriously injure or kill someone. Jesus christ
"It's not in these 4 arbitrary, incomplete rules that someone made up a long time ago to deal with 4 specific situations, therefore it's OK to let people stand within the cone of death"
I won't pretend to be a paragon of gun safety and I've definitely had my fair share of whoopsies but some common sense principles mean nobody's ever been at risk of injury (other than, occasionally, myself) even from some of the arguably stupider things I've done with guns.
Apparently they had their credentials stripped by the NRA and the North Carolina Department of Justice because it was deemed their training was just so terribly unsafe

I think the article means that someone else got stripped for being shit, but these guys didn't. Still good to hear there are consequences for these things... sometimes.
