So. Tax refund coming in. Should I buy an Aimpoint PRO and shift the Vortex and magnifier to the PTR, or should I just say fuck it and get the PTR an actual scope?
Get a real scope.
Get a real scope.
Know any decent .308 scopes? I'm looking for something with 1x-4x magnification (fixed if possible) and an illuminated reticle. Budget ceiling is $500. I know the Vortex Strike Eagle fits that description pretty well, but the BDC is set up for 5.56. I'll go with that if there's nothing else, but if I can get one specifically for .308, that'd make my week.

theres a used SCAR H in my area for $4k. What a tempting deal.
There's a '69 Fury with a running 383 that needs brake work and glass in my area for $4k. Why would you ever buy a brand new plastigun for $4000 when you could buy a sweet classic muscle car instead?
I'll take "Sarcasm" for $400, alex
Hard to distinguish sarcasm when people actually pay that kind of money for those things.
Because I wouldn't have to put $10,000 in work/parts and pay an ungodly amount of insurance every year on the plastigun.
Nor would you on the Fury. :v: At most you'd be looking at another couple grand in parts to get it roadworthy if you really went crazy unless you were trying to restore the thing. Insurance on classic cars is dirt cheap.
There's no such thing as cheap insurance for someone under 25 living in the largest city in the country. I'd be paying $3500 yearly on a Mazda 3.
Actually insurance companies automatically value cars more than 20 or so years old as beaters and charge as such. For example liability insurance on my 87 dodge diplomat was $50 a month while dads van was almost $100 a month.
Not in Ontario. Cars older than 20 years require the company to inspect the car and provide a quote following inspection, and cars older than 30 years get registered as "historical" vehicles, and immediately the insurance jumps on them because of the "historical significance."
I'm picking up a PS90 on Monday. Local gun shop has it for $1299 plus tax. Anywhere I can get it cheaper?
No where else is it cheaper unless you want to buy it used. That is the price to grab it. So pony up for mags and ammo.

You are building an AR for your first gun? Why not go with a manufacturer at first? That way you have a baseline and can figure out what you want.
I would not trust myself to build a gun as my first buy.
Definitely not recommended to build an AR especially if it's your first gun entirely. Go look around gun shops and online, there's some really decent ARs for under $700, maybe even below $600. I personally got a Sig M400 carbine length AR-15 from Walmart for ~$1000, before Walmart decided to be assholes in their sporting goods department and remove all semi-automatics. It's really not any cheaper to build one unless you're absolutely going for bottom dollar. If there's something you don't like about the one you'd buy, get the parts and swap it out. If you're 100% deadset on building your own, then here's some extremely important advice if you haven't heard it already. Use a torque wrench when screwing the barrel into the upper. Check info on how much torque, and tighten it to as close as possible to that number, otherwise you'll have a hell of a time getting groups under 3 inches at any range. It's a really common issue I've seen with people that build their own ARs. Everything else is pretty simple, but double-check the hell out of things before finalizing any permanent connections. It also helps to get an armorer's multi-tool and an AR gun vise. Good luck if you decide to build one.

A new front sight is on it's way. The stock needs to be refitted to the receiver, probably with Acraglas to remove play.
It's a clean blasting job but oh god no why did you do that What possessed you to strip the original finish off a vintage shotgun that's as rare as hen's teeth
