If you're going for your first gun and want an AR, look at an M&P15 Sport 2 or a Ruger AR556. They're both decent budget ARs in the $600-$700 range. M&P if you want a rifle that comes pretty close to an M4 Carbine while still being legal, Ruger if you want some (minor) improvements over stock and don't mind difficulty switching certain parts out. I can vouch for the Ruger as an excellent rifle (in spite of certain people here having hate-boners for the company), and I know at least a couple of people here have the M&P.
It's a clean blasting job but oh god no why did you do that What possessed you to strip the original finish off a vintage shotgun that's as rare as hen's teeth
Because the old lacquer was very badly worn, flaky and partly shed off. Once the furniture has been oiled with stock oil and then sanded down with extremely fine sandpaper, it's going to shine as if it had a lacquer surface, and it will look better. Everything that's not wood will be going to a local gunsmith for reblueing. Also, this one has an older one piece carrier, and therefore lacks the speed-loading feature. I'm thinking of getting the necessary parts to do the conversion.
Original Auto 5s are expensive as fuck down here and I've only ever seen off-brand clones. I'd rather stabilize the rust and leave the original finish intact, like I do with all of my antiques. It'll only be original once.
I assume you've checked out Art Isaacsons YouTube channel, and the way he restores Auto 5's is to mint, almost factory condition, they're worth much more like that. It's an excellent watch, even if you're not going to restore an Auto 5. EDIT:
i'd use a knife or paint scrape rather than sandpaper. sandpaper gets the pores of the wood clogged and filled with dust. a knife held near vertical used to scrape off will leave the wood in better condition, make a much more even surface, and it takes much shorter time.
I did use a paint scraper, then sanded.

One of my local shops always has 2-4 of them in stock for $300-400. They could be clones or repros though.
I see the Sears clones for pretty cheap on the regular but never original Belgian-stamped Brownings and I have looked. Fun guns all the way around though.

[editline]17th April 2017[/editline] did that when refinishing my mauser from piss yellow lacquer to a bit more appealing; [t]http://i.imgur.com/SKF3a99.jpg[/t]
I sanded my M44 lacquered stock down to 1500 grit or something stupid then finished it with Teak oil. Looks neat. [t]http://i.imgur.com/BFmS0m1.jpg[/t]
I've seen legit Belgian A5s range from $400-$800, and if I really wanted one I could find one very easily. They're not a rare gun, they made millions of them.
Funny. One of my local shops always has 2-4 of them in stock for $300-400. They could be clones or repros though.
I bought a Belgian auto 5 for $350 at a shop in Peoria Illinois two years ago.

Itll only be original once but whats the point if most of it is rust or just gone?
Aaaand now I have purchased a Mk3 semi-auto kit. Thanks to improper research, I have spent ~$850 so far when I could have spent ~$600. Lessons learned. If anyone ever wants to build a STEN have them contact me so they do not make the same mistakes I made.
how thick is the barrel on those things? looks pretty beefy any plans to SBR it?
The barrel is actually really thin. They ship it with a barrel length +4inch shroud to make it civilian legal for the barrel length. If you watch a video on SBRing one, the true barrel is pencil thin.
well that thing is purty I'm assuming it's still expensive as fuck to feed it though?
well that thing is purty I'm assuming it's still expensive as fuck to feed it though?
Very. My old boss has a five seven and the ammo prices are not friendly
well that thing is purty I'm assuming it's still expensive as fuck to feed it though?
Not really. You wont find the ammo at wapmart but its available online. [editline]17th April 2017[/editline]
Very. My old boss has a five seven and the ammo prices are not friendly
You can find it for .40c a round. Comparable to 223.
Not really. You wont find the ammo at wapmart but its available online.
Even basic ammo is still quite a bit more than I'd want to spend for a range toy
Even basic ammo is still quite a bit more than I'd want to spend for a range toy
Do you own anything in 223? Its the same difference but twice as fun and half as generic.
Hmm, I hadn't seen it that cheap but it's been about 4 years since I bought 5.7
hmm not nearly as much as i thought it was looks like you can get AE 5.7 for .34$ per round. how much did ya pay for the PS90?
I see the Sears clones for pretty cheap on the regular but never original Belgian-stamped Brownings and I have looked. Fun guns all the way around though.
next time i go home i think i'm going to ask my dad if i can shoot his
Congrats. They're really stupid cool little guns. I loved the one I played with.
Hmm. Noice. Still want to nab an FS2000. Hard to justify the purchase when I can buy an AR for like, ~500. Maybe when I've got myself together a bit more :v:
well that thing is purty I'm assuming it's still expensive as fuck to feed it though?
No more expensive than feeding a .45ACP gun with factory ammo. Reloading it is a little more problematic compared to most rounds though.
I would actually kill to own a FAMAS or AUG. They had one at a range in Texas, holy fuck they were so sweet and loud to shoot.
This is the firearms thread not boating.
its a seggsy boat though
its a seggsy boat though
It definitely is. It just seems so overcomplicated from what's needed.
I would actually kill to own a FAMAS or AUG. They had one at a range in Texas, holy fuck they were so sweet and loud to shoot.
If I buy another semi auto rifle (unlikely) it'll be an AUG or a PTR
I would actually kill to own a FAMAS or AUG. They had one at a range in Texas, holy fuck they were so sweet and loud to shoot.
Last year, there was a FS2000 for $1250, used, at the shop. It had the sling and hard to find tri-rail forend. Still kicking myself for nor putting it on layaway. Ordered a PTR91 instead.
Still looking at scopes. What do y'all make of this thing? https://kalinkaoptics.com/posp-8x42-2000-d-variposp-pro-w-bdc-turret-1000m-reticle-picatinny.html I had a quick look at the differences between 7.62x54r and 7.62NATO, and they seem to be really close, ballistically speaking. Anyone think this optic is worth getting? Anyone with experience think it's shit?
