Because of rampant gun crime caused by prohibition era gangsters. There was a time in the US where you could mail-order yourself a full auto Thompson SMG for like $25 lol. So everything fun had to be regulated with the NFA.
But what's more american than that? SAD.
Thompsons were never been that cheap though. They were in, like, the $200 range. Same for BARs.
Thats still insanely cheap all things considered, even if in 1934 the same value now would be shy of 4 grand.
What is mailing a gun?
What is mailing a gun?
You go down to Canada Post with a package that contains a firearm and have them ship it for you.
What is mailing a gun?
Get a C&R FFL and don't live in a shit state and you too can experience this phenomenon.
Yeah but that requires getting an FFL, don't got no time for that shit
It's only $30 :v:
Isn't it super hard to get an FFL though?
Isn't it super hard to get an FFL though?
Hard to get? No, not at all. Hard to Maintain? Can be depending on the license. A C&R license is stupid easy to maintain because all you have to deal with is your books. Any other FFL and you have to deal with zoning laws, security, 4473's and NICS, and if you're building anything the EPA, ITAR, and all the taxes that go with it.
It's only $30 :v:
Yeah a C&R isn't bad but that hardly helps for 90% of guns, original post is referring to a 416

Plus good luck finding a pre86 one for under 40 billion dollars [editline]27th April 2017[/editline]
It's only $30 :v:
Good luck trying to get a class 3 distribution license on a C&R
Id rather buy a house than an M2. Plus good luck finding a pre86 one for under 40 billion dollars
I'm talking about pre-1934, silly :v: You know, back when you could mail-order that shit?
I'm talking about pre-1934, silly :v: You know, back when you could mail-order that shit?
Too bad nothing fun existed back then. Youd get your BAR in the mail then die of typhoid.
I'm talking about pre-1934, silly :v: You know, back when you could mail-order that shit?
M2 50's still costed over a grand then, like half a years salary
M2 50's still costed over a grand then, like half a years salary
All that bootlegging money though...
Transfer on my pistol finally came through! Now I just need to arrange a time to meet the guy who bought it and take his shotgun.
Semi auto kit came in: [t]http://i.imgur.com/pJ0zjCF.jpg[/t]
Semi auto kit came in: [t]http://i.imgur.com/pJ0zjCF.jpg[/t]
Is it weird if I can tell these are Sten parts without even looking at your nickname (and that way remembering you had a Sten) and just by the shape of the bolt?
So the semi conversion permanently alters the bolt, right? Like, even if full-auto is legalized later you couldn't convert it back (realistically)?
there is so little stopping you from tacking a little square on it, making a fixed firing pin, and putting in an F/A trigger group with an open bolt sear..
Since the Sten is so simple, making a fixed firing pin for it would probably be as simple as welding the firing pin in place and filling the rear of the bolt with.. something. Then the bolt should have that square shaped sloped piece on.. umm.. whatever side is on the bottom when it's in the gun, but only covering right half of the bolt. However, I have absolutely no idea what that round piece on the left, rectangular piece and that large looking pin on the right are. They are not parts of the standard Sten, I dare say.
So the semi conversion permanently alters the bolt, right? Like, even if full-auto is legalized later you couldn't convert it back (realistically)?
Completely new and proprietary bolt, only works with a special semi-auto receiver tube with a reduced internal diameter so a full auto, original bolt will not fit. Also, the original bolt has a fixed firing pin, and this one uses an AR-type firing pin.
Oh, so if FA were legalized, you could pull the semi receiver out entirely and build it as an auto with the original parts? That's not so bad.
The transfer on my .380 came in this morning, so it's no longer my .380. I met the guy this afternoon and now I have a Mossberg 590 Mariner. In order to fit it in my safe I had to take the upper off my AR again. Thankfully our stupid-ass laws only require that I have to lock up the lower.
Oh, so if FA were legalized, you could pull the semi receiver out entirely and build it as an auto with the original parts? That's not so bad.
Yeah it's pretty BS because I accidentally build a f/a sub-machinegun on accident and will have to get rid of that somehow, eventually. As far as the receiver goes however, there are original diameter tubes which will not accept a semi-auto bolt, and semi-auto tubes which will not accept a f/a bolt. This is because if someone sold a semi-auto kit that could be installed into an original receiver, then they would consider that gun to be "readily convertable" to f/a which is a no/no. So pretty much if you have a sten with an original diameter milled tube and also posses an original bolt you are in the grey area of "constructive intent". [editline]27th April 2017[/editline] These gun laws are a goddamn shitshow and it's ridiculous that to make a legal sten, I have to spend $400 extra and spend more hours doing more complicated engineering to get it to be legal. If f/a and barrel length restrictions wasn't so illegal I could have had this project done months ago.
I live in the middle of a city so cant exactly go blasting away, and all the places around me are rod and gun clubs that are members only what do
