I was still hungry after dinner so I opened a can of fish cock. It's pretty good. Like Ian and Karl said, definitely very crumbly and salty. Not something I'd want to eat in the desert without access to water. It is driving my cats crazy.
Did you notice a tin flavor?
[editline]3rd May 2017[/editline]
My only ammo can houses loaded AR mags and spare 5.56 rounds. All of my 8mm are in their original boxes just lying around, my shotgun shells are spread haphazardly around my bedroom's desk, and my .30-06 are pre-loaded into enblocs. Also. I think the two mags I have of .45 are loaded into their magazines and somewhere near the gun, but I don't remember right off.
So yeah. Organisation is my speciality, too.
Oh man, I need to get a picture of my whole ammo/magazine supply. It's crazy.
I don't taste the tin, nah. The inside of my mouth is really dry now though.
You might want to transfer your 8mm to a different storage box like the Plastic reloading boxes. The old military cardboard tends to hold onto moisture quite well and it will corrode your ammo.
It's Remington Core-lokt in a standard plasticy cardboard box. Not milsurp.

Been lurking around for a awhile, thought I might post my current collection.

I've never heard of a Schmidt revolver. Is it designed by the same Schmidt from the Schmidt-Rubin rifle?

From what I know the revolver has gone by various names, more commonly known as the Model 1882. As for the designer I do believe it is the same Schmidt, if I am not mistaken.
Also Forgotten Weapons did a video on this revolver some time ago too.

It looks like your M1882 is actually an M1929. Is the barrel octagonal or rounded?

It's not a 1929, that's for sure. In fact it was one of the earliest models of the 1882.

Okay, here's most of my ammo. Excuse the shitty quality, I think it's something to do with the light.

not sure if I should get the 2 or 3 inch offset mount and i doubt the sunshade fits the HS-T, gonna ask the store tomorrow to be sure about it.
2.6" offset is typical for sights on an AR, 2" gives you a third of an inch clearance with a 44mm objective, which should be enough to allow for scope flex.
Just depends on what is comfortable to you; also a consideration if you wear over-ear hearing protection, because it's annoying when trying to get low on the stock to use a scope.
I use my MSA Sordins, they are pretty slim, especially after I put on the silicone rings on them.
Not sure if we are talking about the same thing here. I mean the forward offset of the rings on the mount, not height.
They are both the same height (1,59" or 4cm from the rail to center of the mount).
standard AR sight line is 1,41" above the rail, so the center of my scope's eyepiece will be 0,18"/4,5mm taller than a normal AR sight. suits me fine
Oh, derp... In that case, eye relief for that scope is 4", so mount accordingly.
What oil/wax do you guys figure is best on the gloves I got from Varusteleka? https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/british-gs-leather-gloves-surplus/26281
They're really soft, supple leather but they're also 20 something years old and just came out of storage so I figure it wouldn't hurt to treat them before I start wearing them a lot. I have a few jars of sno-seal sitting around that I put on my boots about once a year, do you think that'd be good for these?

Over the next few months I'm gonna build a 1911.
Two questions.
Where is a good place to buy 10/22 accessories? And where is a good place to buy Mini-14 mags that aren't a billion dollars?

Cheap and good mini 14 mags dont exist. You can thank Ruger for that.
Yeah ruger and mags that don't cost an organ don't go together
I'd be all over a mini 14 for $600 that takes stanag no matter how much Cyke would make fun of me
Could the Mini 14 even be made to take a STANAG without the addition of a hideous magazine well?
Does anyone have experience with buying from Gunmag warehouse?
Cheap and good mini 14 mags dont exist. You can thank Ruger for that.
What about decently priced mags that AREN'T Tapco mags?
They might be the cheapest out there, but I don't like that mall ninja on fudd look.
I mean even if they did it at the factory it'd need an ugly mag well tacked on to it. The only reason I'd buy a Mini 14 over an AR is the Mini is much prettier and has a neat action. Making it ugly for the sake of taking STANAGs wouldn't work for me. I'd be more interested in a cheap and quick way to modify AR mags to run in Mini 14s.
I'd be all over a mini 14 for $600 that takes stanag no matter how much Cyke would make fun of me
The issue with the mini 14 isnt that its inaccurate or takes retarded proprietary mags, its main issue is that it exists.
Its meant to be a clean white washed version of a popular rifle in the same cartridge, but in a more classic, safer, and familiar package.
Its main issue is that it sucks at everything it does and everything it tries to be, and it trying to distance itself from the ARs of the world only made it worse. Using proprietary mags, copying the basic M14 design, wood stock, no pistol grip, wood/plastic heatshields, its all just so dumb.
Theres no justifiable reason in this day and age to buy a mini14. You can get a substantially better rifle in every way for the same price. An AR is just better in every god damn way; from cost to modularity, the mini14 sucks.

They dont exist. Every company out there focuses on STANAG production with mini mags as a complete afterthought.
Good
Cheap
Choose one.
Cyke, not everyone is expecting to fight a war against a modern army tomorrow. It's OK to buy a gun just because it's neat. Mini 14s are neat.
But.. it's fun.
I'd never use a mini 14 for anything but a range toy, yes, but it's fun, it goes bang when I pull the trigger, that's all I ask for out of a range toy.
But theres better and cheaper fun guns out there that dont have $80 30rnd magazines you cant use in any other gun.

Yea I sure am hoping America turns into a warzone, that way I can thrive with my collection of Mosins and Mausers, and other WWII militaria. Aside from pistols, my most modern rifle was made in 1945.
I understand buying neat guns, its all I do. But the mini14 is neat because its such a piece a shit. Its not like buying a virtuaboy or an ET Atari cartridge.
There are lots of other guns I'd rather buy first but a used woody Mini at around $400 would be tempting. I still need to get an AK and a FAL before I buy anything else, though.
I like my uncle's Mini a lot and I keep trying to get him to give it over since he never uses it but he won't get off of any of his guns.

I don't see where you're getting 80 bucks for a 30 round. I've been seeing 20-30 for a 30 rounds, and you can get a beta c-mag for around 100.
The "AR is better than everything" is such a bad mindset, man.
I know this is going to sound fudd as fuck. But not everyone out there wants/needs an AR-15 for what they do. I'm just going out to have a fun time. I like the way the mini-14 looks, and I like the fact that it uses 223. I'm not planning on all this modularity for stuff that I'll never use, and I'm not using it for any elite training target practice to kill a million commies with. It isn't like the gun is some horrible abomination that isn't worth anything. Yeah, the older versions had problems with the barrel overheating. But that has been fixed. They're about on par what you'd get out of a cheaper AR with less modularity.
It's just fun, thats all it needs to be.

I got mine for a good deal. :v: I got a Rock Island 45, a Mini-14, 10/22 and a Schmit Rubin 1896 + a bunch of accessories for 1,700. Which was after tax and other fees.

Go look on Rugers website, mag prices for the mini line are insanely high. The el cheapo mags youre looking at suck, which I keep telling you.
For the record, I hate ARs. I hate the way they function, their ergonomics, and their look, but its better in every single regard to a mini.
Like I just said, the majority of the guns I own are complete crap. Im not dissing you for owning a terrible gun, which the mini is. If it fits your needs, then great. You could have bought a significantly better gun but you didnt and thats perfectly fine.
I own a gun which, because its action is so violent, it breaks itself on such a regular basis that I have an entire drawer dedicated to spare parts for it. I know all about terrible guns that are fun and expensive. The mini is just particularly terrible because its production is such a blatant 40 year long cash grab
As much as I'd hate to take Cyke's side on this one; minis are kinda dumb to me. Not because they're expensive AR wanna-bes, but because they just feel awkward to me, feel heavy for what they should be, and I've never shot a decent shooting one, honestly. (Granted, I've shot three entry-levels, so it's not like I have top-tier quality to compare to)
That being said, though too, unlike Blyat, I won't attack someone for buying one. Especially if they give me trigger grope time to see how they do.
Finally got around to taking a nice pic of my new glock

If they've come up with cheap polymer STANAG magwells for 5.56 AKs and VZ 58s, I'm sure they could make something for a mini 14.
The mag well for the AK and VZ look very similar:
