Seems like none of the Youtube channel links are working in the OP by the way. Was trying to get some more knowledge before I go shoot my pistol for the first time about general do's and don'ts and was like "WHY DO NONE OF THESE CHANNELS EXIST?!"
So Ian from forgotten weapons got back to me, here's what he said
Hi Johnny, If I tell you what it is, will you sell it to me? :) It is a 50-round box mag from an AAI XM19 rifle, dating to the late 1960s. It used a multiple flechette cartridge - I think it was the XM645 cartridge, but could be wrong. At any rate, it was a round similar in size to the 5.56mm NATO but not quite the same. It underwent some testing, but was rejected for a couple reasons - the Army decided against the multiple-projectile concept, and soldiers had adverse health reactions to the vaporized fiberglass particles from the sabots used to hold the flechettes in place in the cartridges (oops). The rifle was part of the SPIW (Special Purpose Infantry Weapon) program; one of a whole bunch of different designs. As far as I know, there are none of these rifles are in private hands, because of their scarcity and the fact that they are virtually all machine guns. I have one other SPIW magazine from a different rifle (http://www.forgottenweapons.com/1964-spiw-60-round-magazine/), and would be pretty interested in having that one as well… You can find out more about the SPIW program in this Collector Grade book (although it is out of print and painfully expensive now): http://amzn.to/2da01fZ
So will you sell it to him? :v:
So will you sell it to him? :v:
Most likely, boss man has to mull over it.
Based Ian.
I'm 10 minutes from the biggest used gun shop in the country, and they have a Dutch marked FN 1922 in .380 for $500. Should I buy it?
I went to the range today, the old guy running the place heard I had a mosin and really wanted to sell me his pile of 762x54r. I bought it, but its corrosive, so Id really rather not have to clean my gun for hours after using it. Anybody wanna buy 460 rounds of Klimov/Novosibirsk yellow tipped copper fmj?

You can neutralize them with ammonia, just spray window cleaner down the bore and you're good to go.
Hot water is a good way to go as well. I just use the laundry tub and a bottle to run a couple gallons of hot water through the gun and haven't had a rust issue yet. Just make sure everything is dry and oiled before the gun gets put away for a long time.
That's why I use window cleaner, I'm lazy.

Hot water is if you want the gun to dry faster.
Is it in a crate or just boxes? How much? My brother in law would probably buy it from you. Seriously.
It came out of a tin can but the guy I bought it from threw it away cause he cut his fingers on it. Theyre still wrapped in the paper and string in packs of 20, but theyre in a cardboard box now. Ill ask 200 plus shipping for it, but ill take an offer. It may not be because its corrosive, but it also happens to be sooty and dirty as hell.
That's why I use window cleaner, I'm lazy.
From what I've heard there's so little ammonia in Windex that it doesn't do anything, it's actually the water content of the spray doing stuff.
From what I've heard there's so little ammonia in Windex that it doesn't do anything, it's actually the water content of the spray doing stuff.
This is correct, the salts are water soluble, the windex won'd rust your gun though. Use boiling hot water and it'll mostly evaporate.
That's why I use window cleaner, I'm lazy.
I have a gallon of 1/10 amonia and 9/10 water mixed up and use that for cleaning. Most windex doesnt have ammonia anymore.
I have a gallon of 1/10 amonia and 9/10 water mixed up and use that for cleaning. Most windex doesnt have ammonia anymore.
water and ballistol is also an option.
Ill give you $150 plus whatever shipping is.
Ill wait and see if codemonkeys inlaw wants it, but Ill keep you in mind.
I asked but he's not interested. He is still going by the old exchange rate but I think those days are far behind us. $200 for 800rds will be a tall tale we tell our post-Obama grandchildren who will look at us skeptically and nod their heads knowingly with a chuckle when they decide it's the alzheimers talking.
Eeehhh, i might just look into more aggressive ways of cleaning out the soot-filled barrel, like getting a bore snake, or making a nozzle to attatch the barrel to a power washer. It was really nice being able to lob piles of ammo at a target without feeling guilty about cost.
I'm going to buy a 55 gallon drum of CLP and store my guns in it. So tired of cleaning :(
I used to stick a plug in the end of my mosin barrel and fill it with acetone and let it sit. Even that didnt work too well.
Sold the mag to Ian. Got to talk to him for a bit over the phone, he's a pretty chill guy. I had to laugh though, when I picked up the phone he introduced himself just like he does in his videos.
Ended up not buying the FN 1922. They advertised all numbers matching, so I took it apart and checked the barrel. The barrel had no serial number on it anywhere, but it had Belgian inspection stamps. From what limited information is available on these guns, the barrel is supposed to be serialed to the rest of it. This tells me it was a replacement barrel probably made for spare parts, but not the original barrel. They wouldn't budge on price since it was a consignment, so I passed.

Curious what an odd ball thing like that would sell for.

Just told a guy that next paycheque I'd buy his "blemished" Colt Canada 15.7" IUR for $650 shipped. This'll be great to finish off my new AR. Now I just need to find a stock and BCG for it. I also realized I can keep my Chinese AR and fit my new AR in the safe too if I take the uppers off both, since the lower is the "firearm" and therefore the only part that needs to be locked up. I don't know why I never thought of this before.
Is there a reason I'm having a hard time finding an A2 stock for my AR or is it just me?
