Well, my PTR is at the store as of yesterday. They closed after I got of work though, and I'm working 8-830 today, so it looks like I'll be waiting until Saturday to pick it up. On the bright side, that means I'll have time to get a decent case for it.
Ya, the factory hard case is cheap and is in this weird area of being too big for the rifle, but not big enough for accessories to be stored with the rifle. Get a nicer hard case and figure out what to do with the PTR case.

I see they're sticking with hi-point disgusting.
If the some how make it reliably function with a double stack mag, say glock mags, I'm game. Hi-point makes clunky pistols but for the money dollar for dollar the carbines can't be beat. The low cap mags have always been the issue, at least for me.
Speaking of hi-point carbines, I really want to take a .40 and turn it into a 10mm. For whatever reason they went with the .45 platform instead of the 9mm, so its already got a wide enough grip and plenty of bolt clearance. Hell the .40 mags are just .45 mags with tighter feed lips and an easily removed spacer. Iv8888 showed a video of one along time ago, appeared to function well enough minus some failures to feed due to the bolt moving so fast. Nothing a heavier recoil spring couldn't fix.
Oh, forgot to mention. The magazines I ordered came in on Thursday. They all have manufacturer stamps from three different manufacturers: Heckler & Koch, Rheinmetall, and whatever company was operating out of Norway (the stamp is a K topped with a crown, if that means anything). Manufacturer dates range between 1964 and 1990.
Also, they all seem to have some variety of inspector stamp on the upper rear of the magazine body, though two of them, the 1989 and 1990 mags, seem to be the exception.
Range day today.

Update: the BCG is a pain in the fucking ass to reassemble. Also, there's a faint white outline of a "72" on the buttstock. This thing comes with surplus German furniture, how cool is that?
Also have a surplus 3-point sling on order.
FBI was backlogged earlier today, tried to get an Enfield at the gun show and now i gotta wait until they unfuck their shit to be able to pick it up from the FFL... hopefully that's tomorrow. There was also loads of other shit I wanted to buy, all at good prices too, but couldn't cause hurrdurr private transfer checks.
Hopefully everything will be fixed when I go back tomorrow.
Well, it's been a productive weekend. In addition to being a carpenter and trucker for my dad and uncle, I also sighted in my uncle's new .44 mag rifle he got this week. The sucker has no kick what so ever and practically no crack. Aside from it being a single shot break action, the thing was sweet.
I kinda want to buy a custom tc encore or h&r handi rifle in some long range cartridge. Obviously with a decent set of glass.
For anyone with an AK, Manticore Arms is having a sale on their AK Transformer handguards, $99, comes with snakeskin texture panels, doesn't come with the gas tube rail in the pic:

I taped over the end to keep it from slipping out whenever it feels like. That would be tragic if it happened on concrete.
Is that a three-point sling?

I'm tempted to join this match, anyone else here going, maybe we'd be able to run FP team? :v:

Ahhh the three point sling...
guys whats a good 5.45 AK? I picked up a bunch of 7n6 and I've always wanted one anyway, but i'm not sure whats gud. I've been looking at a VEPR.
in exchange here is that enfield I was talking about. No.4 MK2

If you can find a properly converted Saiga, there 5.45 ones are great. Otherwise Polish Tantals are good. Dont shell out the money on a Arsenal unless you have a lot of disposable income or you want a krink
My CHL came in today, woo!
Anyone here ever use a shoulder holster,
Could you build a short-recoil semi automatic with no springs by having the bolt/slide operate like a piston in an engine? Inertia from recoil energy would carry it all the way open, then all the way closed to the locked position.

I'm imagining it as short-recoil because that doesn't need a rotating bolt to stay in battery and it would be unlikely to bounce out of battery
I'm super late here but nobody mentioned that this is pretty much how the original Maxim gun worked. Check out this video:

Skip to 1:05. You can see how under recoil the joint mechanism spins basically like a piston and then comes back to close the action. According to ForgottenWeapons, it originally continued in a single direction of rotation like a piston rather than reverse direction after each shot, but this led to its rate of fire increasing as it built up rotational momentum and this was deemed unacceptable.
Anyone here ever use a shoulder holster,
Once. I didn't like it for CC, but my clothes are usually rather slim fitting in the torso area so it just stuck out like a sore thumb no matter what. There are some of those ultra low profile ones that go under a button down but that just seems counterproductive.
