if a safety is that important I'd go with an XD in whatever flavor you wish. If it were me I'd go without a safety for a glovebox gun especially if that's it's only duty (or in general but I hate safeties) but that's me
also another option albeit one without a safety per se is the canik TP9SA you could run it with a round in the chamber but decocked easily recocked with a quick press check. I personally love em I have both a TP9SA and a TP9SF great little guns especially for how much they are (I regularly see em for 350$ new)
If you're really concerned about safety, buy a 1911 and don't carry any actual ammunition in the car. With the slide/trigger safety, grip safety, single action, and complete lack of ammunition in the vehicle, its the safest gun on earth.
Or buy a glock like a smart person would.

So I broke down and decided against the EVO. I really want a full length rifle as well. I think I'm just going to build an AR15 and get parts to SBR it down the line when I have the cash. I'm also giving up on my dream of building an M16A1 because the kit availability is fuck all. Any good guides or recommendations?
Edit: I should probably add some details. I've got about 6-700 cash on hand to spend on it, could probably muster 8 if it's really worth it. Looking for something with a 20" barrel most likely, full size rifle would go along well with the SBR parts later on. Really only accessories I'm looking for is a sight and grip.

I have a Pietta '51. Make sure you use the right size caps. I've been using undersized caps for mine and they explode and get down in the trigger mechanism and jam it up.
Also, that Woodsman is so sexy. I wish they weren't in .22.

You could just swap your barrel and sights for less compared to what you'd loose if you sell/trade. Plus factory glocks use metric pattern, which while in itself isn't bad that's one more $80 piston you need to have.
