Yeah, pretty much. What he currently has is a Beretta 950, so an AR would be a slight improvement I think.
Options for building a CA legal AR: https://blog.full30.com/complying-californias-gun-insanity/ [editline]26th November 2016[/editline]
Good point about penetration, although his house is made of brick.
With the right ammo, this isn't an issue; hollow point handgun ammo with clog with drywall, act like ball ammo, and overpen anyway.
he might be better off sticking with a pistol for the simple fact that it stands a lower chance of punching through the walls of his house and into a neighbor's.
Most police departments switched from MP-5s to AR-15s because they go through less drywall. The bullets might be travelling at a higher speed, but they weigh less than half as much (55gr 5.56 vs 115gr ball or 124gr hp 9mm), so they are more easily deflected/stopped by housing materials. [editline]27th November 2016[/editline]
I don't need a new shotgun, certainly not one with only an 18.7" barrel, but God damn if I don't want this stupid thing: http://www.tacticalimports.ca/ung12-p-457.html
That looks like something outta Borderlands.
It's because just about all homes built in the US for the past 50 years have been cheap pre-fab structures with a pre-made wooden frame that gets bolted together and then drywall slapped over it.

I'd like to see a saturday-night special like that punch through multiple layers of drywall.
I've decided my next gun is going to be the FN PS90. I can pick one up for about $1200ish after transfer fees and shipping and such. Anyone have one that can comment? I've always wanted the gun since I was a little kid. I like bullpups, I like how it feels, I like the magazines and the top loading, I love how the thing will turn heads at the range. I don't want anything like an AUG or a Tavor. The only thing I don't like about the civilian equivalent is the extended barrel. Also curious if any of you have experience with the 5.7 x 28, I don't know anybody that has fired it. Anyone know how I can find one like this, or is this only the full-auto version? [thumb]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/117.jpg[/thumb]
You're going to need a stamp for a shorter barrel since it would be an SBR. If you do decide to get a stamp, it's just a matter of googling for this: https://www.cmmginc.com/shop/barrel-10-4-ps90-4150cmv-cl-19-5-7x28/

[thumb]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/117.jpg[/thumb]
As far as civilian use goes for it, its useless. It fires a shitty overpriced cartridge and costs far too much for what youre getting. Its expensive to buy, its expensive to buy magazines for, and its expensive to feed. With that said, everyone has that one gun theyve always wanted and those guns are rarely practical, if you can afford it, do it. Youll have a lot of fun with it. My dream gun is about as practical as a lead balloon so I cant say shit about you wanting a PS90.
Yikes, $200 fee on top of a $200 barrel. I'd probably consider it at some point, but 1/3 the price of the gun just to shorten the barrel is a little much.
You could also look into shortening the barrel and putting a faux supressor on it and tacking it on to keep the barrel at 16".
I excercised my 2nd amendment right and bought a Yugo M59/66 SKS today.
I've been in the market for a Mauser C96 or derivatives, and it's proving surprisingly difficult. All I want is a full-size C96 or derivative in decent condition, yet looking at Gunbroker it seems that my choices are 'rusted out beater' or 'immaculate numbers-matching heirloom'.

All you have to do once you've got your tax stamp is turn the barrel down on a lathe yourself or get a gunsmith to do it (It costs me $75 here in Australia to get a barrel shortened, I imagine it's far cheaper in the US). [editline]28th November 2016[/editline] If anything you should get your tax stamp forms in as soon as possible because they take 6 months or so to process. [editline]28th November 2016[/editline] You should also research NFA law.

I havent found anything except for what youre describing. Check out Rock Island Auctions next time they have an auction, thats probably your best chance.
What's your budget? I know of a local broom in decent shape but it's missing grips and needs new springs.
What's your budget? I know of a local broom in decent shape but it's missing grips and needs new springs.
Depends entirely on what it is, I could go anywhere up to 1.5k probably for the right gun. Swapping parts or even refinishing would be no big deal. Honestly, I could even go for a rusted-up beater gun as long as it looked fixable and was priced appropriately, I just don't want a bolo or 'all-matching' hunk of unshootable rust.
My buddy says they sold it, sorry. It had kind of an interesting story, it was found in a stream and supposedly functioned after a soak in an electrolysis tub. It had some pitting though.
Took a photo of all my guns. Bit weird not having my Chinese AR there since I just sold it, second gun I ever sold. Decided to get a stripped lower + LPK while the sales were still on. so many choices from here. what stock? what forend? what length barrel? what length gas system? what compensator? what caliber? but really I'm probably gunna get a a bunch of different uppers. I wanna get a 20" long .223 and a ~10" .300 blk.
Just remember to get it stamped if you get a really short .300 upper.
Just remember to get it stamped if you get a really short .300 upper.
of course. I could also get a stock last so its technically a pistol for as long as possible [editline]27th November 2016[/editline] Also got this... [sp]a few months ago[/sp] [t]https://i.sli.mg/vhlBYO.jpg[/t]
Yeah I thought about that but then I couldn't sell it if I ever wanted/needed to.
Yes you could.
Yeah I thought about that but then I couldn't sell it if I ever wanted/needed to.
Yea naw, you could sell it for about double or tripple what you paid. Seriously, research the NFA.
I'll have to see if I can attend a SRA(applied reservists' shooting) course early next year, a VEPR would be really nice to get before they all get banned eventually.
I'm back home in Florida for work (got out of North Dakota a day before 12 inches of snow fell) and seeing all the gun shops down here just make me sad. Theres good shops up in ND but theres just so many here. Probably the only thing I miss about Florida.
Isn't the demand higher in Florida because of how quickly everything rusts out? :v:
I left a Mosin outside overnight once, woke up the next morning and it had completely rusted away into dust.

My boss has asked me to test fire the office defense gun when I get a chance to make sure it's in working order, which is convenient because it's an EAA Witness and I was considering buying one of these. Now I get to test drive one.

I've handled a few guns where the oil turned into solid gunk. Turned the trigger from 13lbs to 20+lbs in an old colt and slowed down the action in a well used PPK along with making its horrible double action pull worse.
No human eyes have seen this pistol for almost 2 years so yeah. It's still dripping with runny oil but I'm gonna give it a good cleaning and fresh oil anyway just to be safe.
