Get a Mosin - Y/N? It's a hex receiver, decent condition, 1928 Izhevsk manufacture. I'm selling a decent .22 and hoping to spend very little on a new gun.
Frankly, for as much as Mosins and their ammunition cost nowadays, spend more and get a Finn M39 variant if you can.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WondfQn.jpg[/t] Got a gun that wasn't ruined by Brazilians, yay
At the moment it looks like I can get it for <300, and I don't have a whole ton of extra $ on me for anything else beyond ammo. I'd -like- a Finnish rifle, but at the moment I'm mainly looking at whatever I can get relatively cheaply.

If you get a Russian 91/30, you might not necessarily be paying for a quality weapon. 3MOA is supposed to be typical for them.
The bayonet on my M59/66 is nearly impossible to remove. I'm breaking tips off of screwdrivers just trying to loosen the screw holding it in place. There are two indents on the other side of the mount where the back of the screw is flush. I don't need to remove these indents to remove the screw holding the bayonet in? I'm trying to replace it with a bipod.

[editline]12th January 2017[/editline] I thought that was mostly due to shit like the assault weapon import ban.
They can tell you that all day long but Izmash sells Saigas here that are fully converted. They could import them as kits and build the receiver in the US and assemble a gun that doesnt suck. But they opted to import terrible SL8's and then discontinued them because no one wants to pay $1,500 for a AWB rifle that costs 2 grand to convert.
they're usually staked so that you need hell of a torque to break it loose. use a torque wrench and increase the torque until it loosens. and use a screwdriver bit that fits perfectly, not one that is almost fitting.. talking from experience about removing the bayonet on a mosin m44 which was also staked in place aren't those bipods pretty shitty anyhow? just asking. [editline]13th January 2017[/editline] if you cannot for the life of you get it out then you might as well just drill out the two staking dents
I'll take my Milwaukee set from work and do that this weekend. The bipod is pretty shitty tbh, but it's more useful than the bayonet (other than stabbing the target for fun when my lane time is up). I'm hoping I don't have to damage anything to get it off, or I might as well just use it on something cheaper down the road. also looking for some NATO 22mm dummy rifle grenades for it for the hell of it.
Please don't use a torque wrench to break lose bolts, yes it's a big breaker bar but your making the wrench less and less accurate every time. Please use a socket conversion to a cordless impact gun or w.e. Impacts will save you. Belive in the impact.
Ha. I do have a quality wrench. Get back to me once you read a user manual for a Snapon wrench. It's not the gentle pressure it's the sudden break lose.
Let me know when you have successfully found your Lord and savior the impact gun.
You are both wrong, see me after class. You need to use an impact driver to remove stuck screws, not a gun, definitely not a torque wrench. The downward force imparted on the head of the screw while using the impact driver will keep you from rounding it out.

Normally with a gun you can put your weight behind it and it will be fine. The issue comes only if you use a drill or a drill with a built in vibrator thinking its a impact. Can you move yours with your hands?
Holy shit guys grab a wrench and a 3 foot piece of 2" square steel or pipe. Done. No expensive tools needed. Edit Oh wait its a screw. Yeah definately get a manual impact driver. Those things are the shit. Find abit that fits, smear on a little valve grinding compound, and give her a whack with your favorite bfh (big fuckin hammer). It's a mandatory tool when you work on 80s motorcycles, where honda engineers in their infinite wisdom use fuckin screws to hold together engine halves.
in europe
Opinion disregarded. Any continent that produces wonderful things to work on such as Mercedes and Volvo products are NOT ones worth taking mechanical advice or opinions from. :v: We have a garage full of tools that are older than a handful of countries in Europe and have seen semi-daily use that are still working just fine. I have never bustes a knuckle wrenching on shit at home with my own tools. Learning to fix things with right tools will get you much farther than uh """"""quality german engineering""""""

You can get a Yugo Mauser for a comparable price, and they're much better rifles. Alternatively, save a little more and get an SKS- they're a great value and shoot significantly cheaper ammo.

[editline]13th January 2017[/editline] Also SKS's are shit prices too nowadays.
Can you move yours with your hands?
Yes, I have a craftsman one at home and a snap on one at work. Both work with minimal effort. The snap on one I can operate by smacking the back of with my palm for smaller screws.
Have you looked at 91/30 prices lately? They're shit. [editline]13th January 2017[/editline] Also SKS's are shit prices too nowadays.
Yeah, I guess I should clarify that I'm not saying $300 is an unreasonable price for a Mosin because the prices have skyrocketed, but it is an unreasonable price for what it is. The Mauser's a much better gun for the money. Classic Firearms has Yugo SKSes for $430 which is pretty good for a milsurp semi-auto, although now that I think about it with ARs being so cheap right now it'd probably be better still to just save for one in the $500-600 range.
My torque wrench is from Harbor Freight. I haven't ruined it yet, I'll keep it that way. I have a Milwaukee cordless impact driver and some spare bits. If that won't work I'll just leave the bayonet in place. guns now
I got my GF's hex 91/30 in fantastic condition (seriously it was fucking gorgeous) for $210. Its probably her favorite birthday present, she's so damn adorable when we pull it out.

[editline]13th January 2017[/editline] And yeah, with all these PSA emails I've been getting lately I think I could build another AR for $450
Ah hell, I already did it. Traded an old .22 for the Mosin and paid 25 bucks.
Eh, if you were pretty much trading even for an old shooter you didn't want it's hard to criticize that.
If anything, mosins are great fun as beater guns. Get some cheap ammo, blow up some cinder blocks, clean it well.
So I'm searching for a model Cival War/Wild West Era break-action shotgun to use as a prop in a local stage production. I'm obviously not looking for a real one or I wouldn't even need to ask. I'll take anything really, I don't care if it's a airsoft gun, model, toy, whatever as long as it looks convincing enough from a distance and isn't going to be stupidly expensive. I'm not even going for super accurate designs as long as it's 19th century style the crowd won't know the difference. Anybody know where I could find one? I've been looking but I can't find anything.
If anything, mosins are great fun as beater guns. The only thing true about that statement anymore id that its a subpar military rifle. Nothing about it is cheap anymore. If it makes you smile, buy it... Unless the price makes you frown. This is how I've ended up with an eclectic collection of firearms that makes no sense, and puts me in a good mood every time I do anything with them. Keep in mind that there are better rifles for the money though, but if you have a burning desire for it, go for it.
If I was going to get into target shooting with a pistol and hunting with a rifle, which guns would you people suggest me? I have been looking around and ammunition wise russian ammunition is extremely cheap around here, like boxes with 100s of rounds for around the price of a weeks supply of cigarettes. Currently thinking a G17A for the target shooting and a Mosin Nagant for hunting

I dont know about prices in your country, but a modern bolt gun with a premounted scope should be in the price range of a mosin.
