Black receiver and wood handguard would be nice. Or at least a black not skeletal handguard.
I don't know if it's been discussed here, but I really dig Jesse James' California, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey legal platform he's showing at SHOT. It gives me a neo-BAR feeling, and it's not totally pointless since it's built from law necessity which gives it more of a practical feel.

The Ares SCR is the exact same thing for at least half the price of anything Jesse puts out. The only real difference that his gun brings is the side charging handle. The Ares SCR can be upgraded with parts to match Jesse's gun.

The Ares SCR, in my opinion, doesn't look as interesting as Jesse's shop's design. I'm not a fan of the skeletal handguard, but the stock, the milling of the receiver, side charging handle, all together makes a pretty visually interesting gun. As far as price, I don't think anyone who buys one of his guns is particularly worried about saving a few bucks anyways.

If you want a communist-state legal AR alternative, the SU-16 is an option. Kel Tec aside, it's supposedly pretty decent.
Pretty decent pricing too, they run between $600-900 new, depending on the model. The SCR seems to be a $1k+ kind of rifle.

I'm from Indiana, no ridiculous gun laws here. Just thought they looked interesting.

My favorite wood SCR

My favorite wood SCR
I'd get one of those and rechamber it in .458 Socom for 3 reasons:
1) It's legal for hunting in Indiana.
2) Can still use standard AR15 mags to load it without modification.
2) Who doesn't like big bore hunting rifles in some nice wood?
I'd be down for getting a BN-36 in .300 Win Mag if I had a spare $2500. Anyone have any insight on this particular rifle? .300WM isn't that much more expensive than .30-06 online and I think it would be fun to have from the perspective of having a semi-auto rifle in such a massively powerful cartridge.

Look one state east if you want to complain about hunting...
How was the weather?
40-50 degrees daytime, mostly overcast and a bit rainy.

No, wasn't invited to range day and I didn't visit any of the machinegun tourism ranges.
How's the RDB Survival handle? What do you think of Troy's retro AR offerings?
The RDB Survival handled ok, balance was fine, but the wrist stock feels a little strange compared to a regular bolt gun.
Troy's Retro ARs are pretty cool and lightweight, but I'm not a retro-AR nerd so I can't tell you how "period correct" they are; from what I've read they did a pretty good job though.
I'd take one of them over Colt's new retro AR offering at $2500 though.
Desert Tech MDR pre orders are going out in March and new orders in July, hopefully.
CZ Shadow 2 is great from the grip to the weight and balance to the smooth trigger; so nice in fact that I plan on picking one up.
CZ P10C is well done, trigger is excellent, better than the VP9 and Walther PPQ, IMHO.
Grip texture is akin to 4th gen Glock, and the slide serrations are very grippy, as with most modern CZs I've handled.
The Polish MSBS felt fantastic because it is not only light and narrow, but not nose heavy like most piston operated rifles. The grip was a magpul MOE, but is interchangeable with standard AR pistol grips. The selector lever is ambi, in the right place and of the correct length so as not to press into the shooter's trigger finger.
Mag release is large and ambi, stock is somewhere between an ACR in profile and SCAR in function with the cheek rest being similar to the latter.
The forend attaches very similarly to an MCX, as does the barrel, which is fluted, with three position adjustable gas.
The bolt is much longer than that of an AR, which increases the dwell time and smooths out the cycle of function, and making the rifle more controllable and soft shooting.
So would a semi-automatic BAR be legal in NY?

Are you talking about the modern hunting rifle, or a converted WWII "LMG"?
Back from SHOT Show, I'll do my best to answer questions, give general impressions, etc.
Lucky dickens. I had an opportunity to go but the shop was too busy for me to leave for a few days, I'm sure I'll get to go again sometime though. My Sig rep said the booth went absolutely nuts when it was announced the P320 was picked.

It's cool going to the show, but I hear that half the fun is the invite only ATAC shoot and invite only company after parties.

I could have had a chance for the shoot because of Sig. They're cool as hell to work with, I just wish they'd stop spreading themselves too thin and actually make the stuff I order so I can sell it.
So, I'm definitely getting a Hudson MFG H9 that gun looks hot as fuck.

It's like Glock and Colt had a baby. I love the boxy look.
Also, I ordered parts for my shotgun that just shipped. Aimpro railed forend and a choate +2 mag extension.
And I guess it's vaguely firearms related but holy shit kids toys are fucking tactical as shit. I bought this at Walmart on my lunch break one day.

Interesting comment from Mike Rowe: https://www.facebook.com/TheRealMikeRowe/posts/1406554542688018
Just makes me like Mike Rowe even more. For some reason I had the impression he was anti-gun, so that was nice to read.
What a great guy. Fuck, id love to work for him.

The only one that's worth a damn, the M1918/A2. Ohio Ordinance makes a semi-automatic variant.

Yea, like the Airsoft line we were all clamoring for...
Their suppressors are near unobtanium and their QC needs attention, most recent issue being the MCX BCGs.

Aren't the new ones relatively budget suppressors? No wonder they'd be unobtainium.

The HCAR is awesome, unfortunately I'm positive they're not NY compliant.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
But still, I do believe the BAR, as long as it has a 10rd magazine, would be NY compliant.
are you talking about people not inserting the recoil spring guide rods into the retainer the right way?
No, must be some sort of slam firing, because they modified the firing pin so that it's spring loaded and retained by a straight pin instead of a cotter pin.:
are you talking about people not inserting the recoil spring guide rods into the retainer the right way?
More has to do with the gun just firing on its own.

I like that. Those improvements go beyond simple safety. I've always been just slightly worried about the AR's free-float firing pin. Having a captive retaining pin is nice, too.
Have they done anything to fix the spring-plate, beyond pinning it in-place?
