You can even do scripts if you want. 50k words is all you need. Think of it like a marathon, you only win if you finish. Doesn't matter if you're first place or turn it in at 11:59 PM
There's always people that hit 50k within the first week or even the first day. Nano is more to show writers that it doesnt take ages to write the first draft of a novel. You just gotta turn off the filter like someone above me said. First draft is usually the 'vomit draft' because it's shit but you just have to vomit the words on the page, or you'll never write them. If it's shit you can always edit it later!
Put me down for 2,000 words!
it's not even november, i thought you were only meant to start writing then?
it's not even november, i thought you were only meant to start writing then?
Headstart
Headstart
Cheater. I'm going to do the same.
I'm gonna wait until Nov but I'll probably do some prepwork. Develop characters and stuff. My synopsis:
Four adventurers wander the world in search of something new, as war on the mainland threatens to spill out across the globe. But on the horizon, the gods themselves are in dire danger - as someone seeks to join their ranks by force.
Going for some good old fashioned fantasy roaming, slaying monsters and casting spells and stuff. Should be fun.
Has anyone here managed to get a general story premise down yet? Would love to hear what some of you have in mind!
Setting: Desert world in the middle of some unknown galaxy. Small communities exist across the world, but most are poor or barely surviving. The main two cities of the world exist in the polar regions. One produces technology, while the other harvests raw materials for said technology. Each month. Gigantic hovering barges are sent back and forth to exchange these resources. Usually the barges transport water to the South polar region since it has a much lower amount of ice in comparison to the Northern polar region. The main character of the story is the son of a chieftain who leads a tribe known as the Yik'ti. Living in the desert regions. The Yik'ti tribe have begun to run low on water, since the local oasis has dried up. With only a few weeks of water left and the main character's father falling ill. You and the rest of the able men and women of the tribe mount a raid against one of these barges. So an epic sci fi Mad max styled universe in the perspective of the "raiders" Wanted to do a story like this for awhile. Since most sci fi stories usually go in the perspective of how the "Civilized" races have to deal with the raiders, marauders or the "Tusken Raiders" of the story, now its in the perspective of the raiders.
I want to write something normal that we can related to. Perhaps about just some dude and his mundane life, throw in an unexpected event that spices his life up a little bit. Cheesy? Boring?
I'm tempted to write the Grand Collection of The Awful Experiences Within The A.K.Z. just to prove the point that transit by bus makes you die a slow and painful death.
Eh fuck it, put me down too.
Guess I could have a go at this, considering I haven't done too much writing lately

I remember participating last year, actually got to 15k words before I had to drop it 'cause of school. It's actually not that hard if you just completely spitball it and turn off the filter in your head. (don't get me wrong, this is probably the hardest part) NaNoWriMo's focus anyways is to reach 50k words, quality not withstanding. So yeah, planning will help but don't be afraid if you go a bit off the rails! Definitely trying my luck this year!

I'm gonna give it a go this year. I have bits and pieces of something I started writing but gave up on and would love some actual pressure to finish it.

Eh fuck it, put me down too.
Added!
Put me down for 2,000 words!
Technically, you'll still need to write 50,000 words in November-- so I'll put you at 2000 out of 52,000.
I've heard of Inktober (one ink drawing a day for 31 days for the month of October), which I'm failing miserably at, just like last year :v: But I've never heard of a writing challenge month before. Sounds exciting though. I'm such a bookworm and an aspiring writer... However when it comes to stories/novels the ideas tend to slip through my head and I never tend to keep them for long :v:
Technically, you'll still need to write 50,000 words in November-- so I'll put you at 2000 out of 52,000.
It's on fuckboy
it's not even november, i thought you were only meant to start writing then?
Nanowrimo encourages you to cheat anyway
Nanowrimo encourages you to cheat anyway
It tries to get you to write more and more. It's about fun but the challenge is there
If I could write 90,000 words in total for the recaps of my last D&D campaign, I can at least try my hand at 50,000 here! Granted, that was over the course of a year and a half... But I shall try! Even with little real schooling or proper writing experience. I've had the idea bouncing around my head for some kind of Space Station 13 inspired story, and one inspired by SS13 I shall write! Behold, a hastily written synopsis for a working title, all of which is subject to change!
A young labourer from a far flung asteroid belt has been assigned to a remote space station. Space Station 13, that is. Working in one of Nanotrasen's finest plasma mining operations, he uncovers a strange artifact from an unthinkable otherplace. He soon realises he isn't getting paid enough for this.
[sp]I expect I won't reach 1,667 woods across the whole month.[/sp] [editline]Our first issue! As in problem. Our first problem![/editline] I can't find for the life of me find the update word count button. I'm told it's at the top of the screen from the FAQ, but I don't see it anywhere. Does it only appear during the event?

Also, I decided to make us a Discord channel-- while it'll probably be slightly desolated for the first few weeks, but it'll definitely be useful (and a huge form of motivation) once November kicks in. edit: fixed the link.
sign me up boi
Sign me up. This would be one way of giving me some accountability.
you know what, fuck it, sign me up, lets fucking do this
Fuck it, not like I have anything better to do anyway. Put me down lads
I've been kind of interested in doing this, even if my writing's either A) gonna be shite, B) gonna stop after about a day due to me losing interest really fast or C) both. sign me up boyo
I've always enjoyed writing short stories. 50,000 would be a challenge, perhaps I could write a collection of short stories?
You know what, sure I'll throw my hat into the ring.
All of the above added to the list. We're now at 31 people! I wonder if we'll hit fifty before November. Also, just for anyone who didn't see it on the last page, I've decided to make us a Discord channel-- while it'll probably be slightly desolated for the first few weeks, but it'll definitely be useful (and a huge form of motivation) once November kicks in.

I finally have a plot! Sign me up, this is going to happen! GET HYPE!
note: a highlighted name indicates that the user has toxxed their novel completion by November 30th, 11:59PM.
How bad of Toxxes are we talking? Like the possibility to get unbanned once it's done? If that were the case, I'd take that chance.
How bad of Toxxes are we talking? Like the possibility to get unbanned once it's done? If that were the case, I'd take that chance.
It is mostly up to the person making the Tox what the conditions for getting their account back (if any) are. Here I'd say a good place to start is something like, you need to release the novel you were working on by the end of the year. But with double the word count!

I'm in, ban [del]for a month[/del] permanently if I don't finish by the deadline. :toxx:
