I'm in, ban for a month if I don't finish by the deadline. :toxx:

Minimum ban length is permanent.
Yikes, buddy. Hope you finish that novel.
Yikes, buddy. Hope you finish that novel.
It's ok, I love to write :pudge: [editline]Edited: [/editline]
If I could write 90,000 words in total for the recaps of my last D&D campaign, I can at least try my hand at 50,000 here! Granted, that was over the course of a year and a half... But I shall try! Even with little real schooling or proper writing experience. I've had the idea bouncing around my head for some kind of Space Station 13 inspired story, and one inspired by SS13 I shall write! Behold, a hastily written synopsis for a working title, all of which is subject to change! [sp]I expect I won't reach 1,667 woods across the whole month.[/sp]
I'm also doing a novel, not directly on Space Station 13, but set in the universe of it. Looking forward to reading what you write if you do end up finishing [editline]Edited: [/editline] Cover art and synopsis are done. Going to follow the snowflake technique and hopefully have a full blown plot outline with character sheets ready to go by November 1. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Fh1oN5G.png[/t]
Have you ever wondered what it’d be like if you woke up one day and found yourself in an unbearable hell-hole where every second, every step, you were a hair’s width from death’s door? Welcome to Tau Ceti Station 12. Mankind has grown from its shell, entering the space-age in search of “Plasma” — dubbed because of its orange appearance at room temperature — a fuel that became more sought after than oil. The star Tau Ceti became a target, identified as the staging grounds for what would become a massive operation under the control of a single mega-corporation: Nanotrasen. In its capitalistic endeavors, Nanotrasen funded and constructed twenty orbital plasma research stations with the objective of orbiting Tau Ceti and finding ways to use Plasma as a new source of power. Accomplished engineer Zak Sterling awakens on one such station. He rubs his eyes, adjusting to the poorly lit room, with nothing but a bed that looks centuries old and a small wooden closet with a green light fastened next to its rusted metal handle. Zak steps outside of what he can only assume is a cabin of sorts, coming face-to-face with what looks like two-dozen different crew members. It took one short glance at each of them to understand that they all had the exact same burning question: how did they get here?
I like the idea, but I worry about the amount I potentially could be channelling myself into the main character and the fact I have a mental disorder will probably make it hard for me to make characters that will just be odd to people reading it.
Remember, cool kids toxx their novel completion. And get a super cool rank in the Facepunch NaNo Discord.
alright fuck this shit i'm gonna fucking toxx this if i don't write 50000 words i eat a carolina reaper and read my novel without milk :flex:
Just found a pile of old concepts for stories that i had written down. Hope i can turn one of these things into something.
alright fuck this shit i'm gonna fucking toxx this if i don't write 50000 words i eat a carolina reaper and read my novel without milk :flex:
Not even a toxx because I know you eat those all the time. Make it a challenge.
Not even a toxx because I know you eat those all the time. Make it a challenge.
i actually don't eat them all the time i eat bhut jolokias frequently but they barely hold a torch to a reaper plus reading the novel as well
i actually don't eat them all the time i eat bhut jolokias frequently but they barely hold a torch to a reaper plus reading the novel as well
But you could write like 50 words. It's bad to have toxx clause that rewards trying as little as possible. Oh and sign me up Monkah. This is gonna be a good ride.
i actually don't eat them all the time i eat bhut jolokias frequently but they barely hold a torch to a reaper plus reading the novel as well
If you're going to read it, might as well record and upload it.
If you're going to read it, might as well record and upload it.
how else will i prove that i did my toxx?
You know what. Fuck it. I'm doing it. Solar Winds is getting written or I'll Susan myself at this point. It's been so 3 years of on again off again bursts of writing. [editline]18th October 2016[/editline] I will write my 50,000 word novel by November 30th, if not I am permabanned until I become a certified butcher with evidence. (User was permabanned for this post ("Toxx - I will write my 50,000 word novel by November 30th, if not I am permabanned until I become a certified butcher with evidence." - Craptasket))
Does it HAVE to be a novel, or could it be other things 'publishable'? Poetry, journal entries etc.?
Does it HAVE to be a novel, or could it be other things 'publishable'? Poetry, journal entries etc.?
Doesn't really matter. Just the 50K words.
We define a novel as “a lengthy work of fiction.” Beyond that, we let you decide whether what you’re writing falls under the heading of “novel.” In short: If you believe you’re writing a novel, we believe you’re writing a novel, too.
Its going to be interesting how I'm going to be able to pump 50,000 words in encyclopedia articles and front page news clips.
HOLD IT MONKAH! I never toxxed my copmletion, I just mentioned toxxs in the same post that I did use to sign to the writing, I don't even have a toxx clause, it's that clause what makes toxx real, otherwise it's more like betting your account for something (which is boring).

Approximately how many 9x11.5 pages is 50,000 words with like size 11 times new Roman?
Approximately how many 9x11.5 pages is 50,000 words with like size 11 times new Roman?
Roughly 110~ pages. My first book was 113
I'm close to participating, but I have a lot of other things going on. The month deadline will make things very tough as it conflicts with coursework and my job. Thoughts?
I'm close to participating, but I have a lot of other things going on. The month deadline will make things very tough as it conflicts with coursework and my job. Thoughts?
In this game, the only loser is he who wrote less than usually in a month. One would never believe how much time they actually have, as it's separated into small chunks during day, which pass by so fast you hardly even notice.
Shoot, throw me in as well. I've always wanted to do this, and since I've been enjoying the setting of a Sci Fi CYOA I found I think I'm going to write about the character I made in that, gets a lot of the prepwork out of the way anyways. What could go wrong?
Since someone posted their novel, I'll post mine. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/6po86TP.png[/thumb]
The year is 3013, its been nearly a millennia since humanity first took long distance flight in space. At first united under the common banner of the Terran Commonwealth, its been 500 years since that flag has flown. In its place, 5 empire states, children of that once power universal state now fight, steal and sabotage each other in the hopes of either creating or preventing the creation of another Terran Commonwealth.

[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zvolrLd.png[/thumb]
Established after the Terran Unification War, the Terran Commonwealth lead humanity through a half millennia of peace and prosperity. Not without issue, and as cracks began to show in the Universal State, the government lashed out, thus creating its own downfall by directly having a hand in establishing the 5 Empire States that would later tear it apart. Its policies and technology laid the foundation that all 5 Empire States and 27 Province States cling to in the 31st Century; desperate to find and recreate the lost technology.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/TSBTJ30.png[/thumb]
The first Empire State to found itself under the Confederation of the Eagle, the UMS is a federal government with a heavy focus on military participation. Originally made up of Terran Military deserters who were disgusted with how the Lily Rebellion was concluded, numbers ballooned as private companies and civilians flocked to the message of freedom. This freedom was put to the test during the Federal War, a civil war which pitted half the Confederation against a rebellion seeking to separate from them. It ended with the previous capital being hit with the Rebels only last stockpile of nuclear weapons. Citizens are provided major freedoms compared to other Empire States but they also need to serve the military to serve in public office. The United Militia System's policies are currently mixed, originally only meant to serve as its own universal state, there is growing want to re-unite known human space and recreate the Terran Commonwealth.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CAHpm9B.png[/thumb]
The Trinity of Gods was a result of one war over the end of the world, a second war over the rights of religious practice and full exiling from the Terran Commonwealth afterward. A harsh beginning as the sector of space the Trinity inhabits is not known for anything more than water ice and standard mineral deposits. Their ruling body is known as the Council of Reason, lead by three figureheads of the three major religions that helped found the original council. Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Their goal is not militaristic, but rather a return to form as cornerstones of human culture, their ultimate goal to land back on Terra and reclaim their lost holy lands.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/JpayNVm.png[/thumb]
The Communion of One is the smallest of the Empire States and the last to be founded. Prison riots near the end of the Commonwealth's reign lead to swaths of its Volga and Rhine provinces in the hands of said prisoners who declared the founding of the Communion of One. Its policies are incredibly draconian, with tracking implants for everything from health to speech being mandatory and punishments for not following suggested guidelines being severe. This is mainly due to the fact that Communion lives are incredibly regimented to attain the maximum levels of happiness and productivity that can be achieved. The Communion, believing that the most efficient model is a technocratic one, aim to incorporate all humans and lead them into a new trans-human age of enlightenment.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/yPPhLCr.png[/thumb]
House Aldrich directly draws its lines back to the first royal families in Europe. Over the centuries their power, wealth and ability to hide such power and wealth expanded further. House Aldrich, knowing that the Terran Commonwealth would turn on them soon enough, bought out several private military contractors and colony construction companies before setting legal precedent in ignoring a Commonwealth court order. While being a Constitution Monarchy, most power is based on money and connections. This nebulous nature lead to a massive power game simply called 'The Game'. This is played by royalty however, common people are free do as they please within a strict manner code. House Aldrich, from the very start aimed to retake all known human space and reunite them under the Aldrich banner, recreating their own version of a 'fixed' Terran Commonwealth.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/WpwiOKl.png[/thumb]
The Dragon's Commune formation is most likely the most tragic of all the Empire States. The Dragon's Commune started out as political rebellion against the Terran Commonwealth, aiming to at least start a debate about its incredibly western policies focused on the individual. Instead, protesters were arrested in mass and leaders were assassinated which culminated in a final strike using planet cracker technology. What was left of the Dragon's Fangs along with the civilians and refugees they harbored left Terran space. Standing as a rebuke of western ideals, the Dragon's Commune is eastern bureaucracy and philosophy incarnate. A singular party runs the government, with that part electing an Emperor or Empress to serve for the rest of their life. Their goals are aligned with UMS in that they do not currently wish to take over known human space, but instead allow co-existence.

I think I'll throw my hat in the ring this year. I think I can afford to put DoctorTale on the backburner for a month or so while I write Vesta Sanctum. The tale of a newly-appointed High Priestess, charged with keeping the Flame of Reality burning in the tower city of Vesta, the only place remaining after a false vacuum collapse consumed the universe around it.
