A remake should preserve the story and quality but give a new spin on the initial film, a unique visual style, a more well rounded story etc. Not just a shot for shot reshooting of the original film. George A Romero made the original, Zack Snyder remade it but without the same characters, location, plot or zombies. Why do they even call it a remake?

I Am Legend isn't a remake, it's the third movie to be based on the book I Am Legend.

"I am Legend" is a remake? When was the original? and Star Trek wasn't really a remake, it was just a new story / dimension with a new cast.
