I remember fapping to that movie. Does that make me fucked up?
War of the worlds has to be the worst ever adaption of a HG wells book
Supposedly, it's harder to write an adaption than an original story.
Also, the screenwriters need to make a living too, and presenting an adaption is much easier than an original work.
But what if the original movie/book sucked?
I know, its rare, but still...
Is that the judge guy from Roger Rabbit in your avatar?
Hollywood: keep your fucking mits off 2001, Alien and the Shawshank Redemption. You do not deserve to make sequels of them.
Although I am looking forward to Tim Burton's remake of 1984.

Which one? There were three War of the Worlds films in 2008.

All of them, only Jeff Wayne's musical is the definitive adaption
I liked all those remakes :(
The one with tom cruise was acually good though
asshole pelham 123 was fucking awesome.

Go read the book then tell me con trollse is a good actor
Star Trek (Okay, that was fucking epic)
I'd say it was merely okay. Had it been a new IP, sure, it would have been great, but because they tacked Star Trek on the title, I wasn't impressed.
A lot of remakes are good.
The Fly, is an awesome remake.
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Blob
War of The Worlds
Star Trek (Okay, that was fucking epic)
Captain America
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
Alien
Dawn Of The Dead
Friday The 13th
Haloween
I am Legend
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
And the list forever goes on. All these films have been remade or are currently being remade.
Shit ones on your list:
Day the Earth Stood Still
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (assuming you mean the newer one with, iirc, Nicole Kidman)
Decent ones on your list:
Dawn of the Dead
I Am Legend
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (assuming you mean the 70s remake)
War of the Worlds
Great ones on your list:
The Blob (assuming you mean the 80s version)
Star Trek (this isn't even a remake, it's a reboot)
Friday the 13th (great distillation of everything that makes the F13 series fun)
Halloween
The Taking of Pelham 123
Decent and great ones outnumber the living shit out of the shit ones. The problem isn't that they're making remakes, it's that they're making bad remakes. Other remakes that were amazing include The Thing and The Fly.
Jeff Wayne's CGI remake of War of the Worlds looks amazing.
Can't wait for it to come out, or is out in america but not in the UK? Or have I been hiding under a rock?

That project was announced like, 5 years ago with no sign of development other than a couple of tripod renders. I doubt it's ever going to see release.
The 2009 Star Trek reboot was good, if that's what you mean. Dawn of the Dead isn't really scary either way.

The main thing is that DotD 1978 had a small layer of social commentary to it; the movie, at its heart, was a criticism of human nature.
DotD 2004, on the other hand, is a great action-horror movie. Not a deep one, but still a damn good one. If it had been titled anything else, it wouldn't get half the shit it gets from people.
The taking of pelham 123 was absolutely fine the first time, we don't need another one!
Have you even seen the new one? It's fucking awesome.

I Am Legend? Decent?! MADNESS!
That was a great movie.
The Day the Earth Stood Still was okay, from a CG stand point it was pretty cool.

Yeah, that's nostalgia for you. People want it to live up to the original, and when it does, they go in to denial and say that it doesn't.

I Am Legend was a great movie on its own, but as a fan of the original novel (especially concerning the awesome ending), I kinda raged.
I just didn't like Day The Earth Stood Still.
The lack of Gone in 60 Seconds on your list disturbs me. The first one was amazing compared to that Nicholas Cage bullshit.
Also, I agree with The Day the Earth Stood Still. Although Keanu Reaves did Klatu alright, I liked the story of the first one because instead of "oh noes you kill the planet we save it while you die", Klatu basically comes in and says "you distructive assholes, get rid of your nukes or we'll make your planet a crater"
The remake, reboot, whatever you call it of Final Destination makes me annoyed. I never liked those movies. And while I'm ranting on that, might as well bitch about shitty titles. For some reason, either they think it's okay to leave or add an article for a sequel. Fast and Furious is an example. I don't under stand why it's so difficult to add a damn number to it.

sequel, not remake or reboot
And Dawn of the Dead was alright. But they fucked up the zombies by making them fast.
HOW? Compare half life 2 zombies. Normal to fast. The first time you see the normal one it crawls out of slime (or out of a gutter if you look around early in the game). The fast zimbies are first seen jumping across roves tearing crap apart. RUNNING. And they're harder to shoot because they're FAST. And you can't outrun them. And they're fast. Now imagine there are millions like in Left 4 Dead. You're more screwed with the fast ones.
Dawn of the dead was supposed to be scary, and it was, thanks to runners. I'll bet you've never played Left 4 Dead :(
Well, to be fair Left 4 Dead has "infected" which is more like the rage virus zombies from 28 Days Later. The ones in Dawn of the Dead are supposed to be literally animated corpses, meaning that stuff like rigomortis and decomposure would probably mess up their movement.
Dawn of the dead remake was actually pretty good, Thank. You. Very. Much.

They're fast, but they're easy to kill. The thing that made the original, better zombies actually scary was that they were already dead. No matter how many bullets you'd pump in it, they'd still keep shuffling and crawling towards you.
