Not saying it's right for companies to get so anal about their music though. I make guitar covers on youtube, and I know of a ton of musicians who spend days learning to play a song, only to have their videos taken down for "copyright infringement". It's a huge slap to the face, when all your really doing is promoting their song. Especially if it's a single you hear all the time on the radio.
Covers get taken down?
...the fuck is that shit?!
isn't it illegal to look at what someone is dong on the internet by spying on them!?
thats violation of privacy!
Is California taking part in this shitfest?

Yeah no kidding. It must fit under the general "do not reupload these songs it is not allowed" rule. It's weird because I know of a ton of bands who will post videos of them viewing covers of their songs on Youtube, commenting on what the person did right and wrong, ect.
It's one thing if your posting the song over a montage, but if your playing it on an instrument? :x Mind you it's still a backing track, unless your playing without one. Guess it's all clumped into the same pile of bs.
It usually isn't the artists intention for people to download the song and share it with friends off their Youtube page. Hence why people who reupload the same song risk the problem of having the video removed for copyright reasons. Even if they got it from the artists page.

Which is why I said this, because ACTA will make it even easier to pull down your covers and even original music if they want to.

California and the silicon valley will most likely be the strongest force against this. Still, we're in the NA so we will still have this law applied to us.
If i would pirate a game, i would still BUY the game if i would want to support them. for the GREEDY activision which first makes a game that costs 60 fucking dollars and then makes maps cost 20 dollars for it, i would have no intentions of supporting them.
Valve is awesome, bought 6 copies of team fortress 2 to my friends when it cost 2€
[editline]05:28PM[/editline]
goddamn, internet is becoming a city 17.
"Its safer here"
Seems a ridiculous curtailing of personal freedoms to me
I don't pirate games. If I want to see if a game is good or not, I rent it for a week for $5 and see if I like it. If I do i'll dish out $80 to buy it (yay living in Canada)
Music on the other hand, I've torrented almost all of the music I have. You can't really "rent" an album, so I torrent it and if I like it I go out and buy it. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of other people that do this and I don't really like being thrown in the same pot as people who pirate every single thing on their computer and never spend a dime
I don't pirate quality games. If I see a game by Valve or Bioware then I sure as hell don't pirate it. I know the quality and experience I'll be getting with these developers. Everyone else is just so here-say. You really dunno if a game is worth your money until you play it and demos aren't as popular as they once were.
In other news Sweden's population increases 10 fold.

If I could download a car I would.
Good. Pirating is illegal. Don't see why this should be controversial, because the people who do pirate things, know that what they're doing is damn well illegal. They can justify it however they want to the court though.

So it's okay for a police officer to randomly search peoples houses to look for drugs, weapons, or anything else illegal? Piracy may be illegal but there's a fine line between trying to stop it and just plain violating the rights of citizens.

I personally wouldn't give a fuck if an officer did that. I've got nothing to hide. I see nothing wrong with it at all.
Maybe he finds something that, while odd, isn't illegal. Why would I care? It's not like I'll ever see him again.
Only things that would irk me is if he got the carpet dirty or if he did it like every week, cause that would be a waste of my time.
So what they fools gon' do bout it anyways? Its not like some country's controlling all of the internet as far as i know. Dis just some shit to make people think they're being watched n shit, nothings gonna change.
This isn't going to do shit about piracy, but I never pirated anything and am very pissed that idiots who don't realize that if they can't afford something they should find an alternative have brought this treaty into existence.
I never pirated anything. I only used torrents for my Linux distros, and I hope the same goes for you!
I have been thinking about switching to Linux on one of my drives... how do I get a torrent for it?
I know this sounds stupid, but I'm an internet illerate person. I just wanted to know is Limewire considered as piracy? I thought I read somwhere that it was legal.
Holland is going to pass a law to crack down on uploaders AND downloaders now. Not that I give a shit, since they can't even wipe their own ass without a vote to pass.
Wait what :ohdear:
This is going to drive them out of money, and they are going to put all citizens out of money and profit for the slightest things, The thing with Isp's is pretty much a privacy breach. For once i love the U.K because it was'nt passed over here
:woop::woop:
England :smugdog:
(Not being smug about piracy, just saying that i won't have my computer cavity searched)
Practically speaking piracy is one of the most damaging things to the freedoms on the internet there is. If piracy had not become so widespread there would be no need for draconian laws restricting what we can and cannot do on the internet. It's the equivalent of waving a flag to the government saying 'here we are, here we are, nah nah na nah na.'
It hurts the economy too.
If you mean us paying then yes it does.
If you mean them losing money then no.
In the US the Supreme Court will just swat it down as unconstitutional.

But no government has anything to do with it, but because all these big companies have ties with politicians, is why this shit is getting down.

Expanding on Mac's analogy: So it's alright for some random government cockwaggler to randomly give you a full cavity search and a mind-probe to see if you've ever come across any criminality?

Yea, and people on internet forums like this one are always blabbering and bragging about how they pirate music and games because the developers don't deserve the money or because these things are too expensive. Neither matters, because by pirating and not shutting up about it, you cause the government to come up with shit like this.
Is California taking part in this shitfest?
All of america, once again proud to live in ireland, the country that is'nt in a union so for me it's like :munch: but im still gonna fight against it.
I just realized, If this goes through, The dumb old farts in american government will probably try to take Steam down thinking it's an "evil pirating network where counterfeited games are traded for money" and that it is "Satan incarnate" :ohdear:

why would a ligitimate digital distribution program that sells things legally be shut down because of an anti piracy law.
