You're all a bunch of idiots blaming corporations. Why don't you stop being a thief and pay for your fucking products. If you need them so much, obviously they are worth something.
What are you talking about? Corporations also take from us! VIACOM is the scum of the internet, a few people who aren't even making a profit off of publicly-released music in their videos and they go apeshit on everyone on youtube! They even ignore fair-use.
Also, Brad Turcotte has the best ideas about music distribution I've ever seen.
Guys. This could actually save music from dying a slow, painful death. Think about it.
It's too bad Sweden doesn't give two shits. :D
Guys. This could actually save music from dying a slow, painful death. Think about it.
I don't think that stopping piracy is going to throw Ke$ha into a volcano, so I think you're wrong.
Fucking pirates, stop stealing shit and we'll never have to deal with this stuff, or DRM, or any sort of anti-piracy measure. I don't understand why piracy is so widely accepted amongst internet communities, it's fucking detrimental to everyone.
Guys. This could actually save music from dying a slow, painful death. Think about it.
Pirating isn't killing music. Coporatized shit like Justin Bieber and Hanna Montana are.
Guys. This could actually save music from dying a slow, painful death. Think about it.
No Think everyone will not listen in fear of the government knocking on their door the next day about it.
Fucking pirates, stop stealing shit and we'll never have to deal with this stuff, or DRM, or any sort of anti-piracy measure. I don't understand why piracy is so widely accepted amongst internet communities, it's fucking detrimental to everyone.
No it's not. Piracy doesn't steal from developers usually since most pirates are either the "try before ya buy" or the ones who wouldn't pay for the thing anyway. It's a neutral thing.
"ACTA would overcome many court precedents defining consumer rights as to "fair use" and would either change or remove limitations on the application of intellectual property laws." So, this is the aforementioned countries saying a collective "Fuck you, legal systems. This is what's going to happen." Also, bye bye consumer rights...
except none of the countries have to enforce it. Basically, all they're doing is saying, "hey, piracy is bad, and we all agree that it's prosecutable, but that doesn't mean we'll actually pursue criminals."
Fucking pirates, stop stealing shit and we'll never have to deal with this stuff, or DRM, or any sort of anti-piracy measure. I don't understand why piracy is so widely accepted amongst internet communities, it's fucking detrimental to everyone.
I bet your friend lent you a CD for you to listen to before. You might have even put a song from it onto your computer. Have you ever bought a game second hand? I bet you have. Stop being a hypocrite.
You're all a bunch of idiots blaming corporations. Why don't you stop being a thief and pay for your fucking products. If you need them so much, obviously they are worth something.
what if your local music store doesn't sell the music you listen to what now?
No it's not. Piracy doesn't steal from developers usually since most pirates are either the "try before ya buy" or the ones who wouldn't pay for the thing anyway. It's a neutral thing.
Let's be realistic here, the vast majority of people pirating software do not buy it if they like it.
Let's be realistic here, the vast majority of people pirating software do not buy it if they like it.
Hence the: "or the ones who wouldn't pay for it anyway"
No it's not. Piracy doesn't steal from developers usually since most pirates are either the "try before ya buy" or the ones who wouldn't pay for the thing anyway. It's a neutral thing.
I've never heard of a pirate who snagged the full working version of a game and then bought it afterwards. And even if there was a majority of those who wouldn't buy games anyway, they still encourage those who do buy games to pirate anyway. [editline]08:23PM[/editline]
what if your local music store doesn't sell the music you listen to what now?
there's lots of music, and lots of music stores.
Hence the: "or the ones who wouldn't pay for it anyway"
Yeah i don't want to pay 50-60$ for a shitty game. And 500$ for rosetta stone, which is really good.
Even if this passes distributors will find ways around it. You can't kill piracy, as long as the internet exists there will be piracy.
lots of music stores.
except none of the fucking sell death metal
proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement.

proposed agreement for establishing standards on IP rights enforcement

establishing standards on enforcement
Doesn't mean prosecution. Just standards. Move along, nothing to worry about.
This reminds me of that one Colbert Report segment about the guy who copied some of his legally owned polka CDs and gave them to some friends, then got arrested.
Most things that people pirate are things they would never buy anyways. At least now there is a chance they would refer it to a friend or buy it.
Guys. This could actually save music from dying a slow, painful death. Think about it.
The music industry is doing better than ever, and independent/small labels are doing just as well as they always have been. The thing is that copyright legislation will only serve to benefit the former, not the latter. A guy that runs a label and distro out of his garage isn't going to be able to afford a legal team to go after the pirates that actually hurt him, while the huge labels will have entire legal teams devoted to raking in billions of dollars per year suing grandmothers that pirate one song. By the way guys, if you want one good reason to hate ACTA, it's this: border guards in participating nations will be able to search your MP3 players and laptops, even copy all the data off of them, if it passes. Should any copyright-infringing content be found (by the way, it's up to the guard to decide what's infringing and what isn't) you'll be immediately arrested.
except none of the fucking sell death metal
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/Altars-of-Madness/Morbid-Angel/e/5055006501117/?itm=1&USRI=-+Altars+of+Madness eh. also, there's this thing, called the internet, where you can order cds, and they ship them to you, for free if you buy a couple of them.
This reminds me of that one Colbert Report segment about the guy who copied some of his legally owned polka CDs and gave them to some friends, then got arrested.
That's not illegal unless he sells them, why was he arrested?
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/Altars-of-Madness/Morbid-Angel/e/5055006501117/?itm=1&USRI=-+Altars+of+Madness eh. also, there's this thing, called the internet, where you can order cds, and they ship them to you, for free if you buy a couple of them.
buying music on the internet seems pretty dumb to me that may just be me, though
Isn't this the one where they go through your laptops and shit at airports.
buying music on the internet seems pretty dumb to me that may just be me, though
it was your hypothetical situation, not mine.
That's not illegal unless he sells them, why was he arrested?
I can't really remember if he sold them or not, but I'm assuming he didn't. I can't really remember, the episode was at least a month ago, but he didn't get in any real trouble, I guess they released him after they realized he wasn't selling bootlegs.
I bet your friend lent you a CD for you to listen to before. You might have even put a song from it onto your computer. Have you ever bought a game second hand? I bet you have. Stop being a hypocrite.
Never borrowed a CD, and, though I have bought second-hand games, I avoid them as much as possible. Stop being presumptuous.
That's not illegal unless he sells them, why was he arrested?
"Public performances" are illegal so they probably twisted that around and nailed him on it.
