There was this prep-school pratty kid in a few of my classes a while back who fenced. He tried to make it sound like one of the most dangerous sports and claimed someone's sabre broken and pierced his own neck, killing him. I acted serious but in reality I was laughing the entire time.
I approve of this thread. Fencing is awesome. Olympic fencing is for candy asses though. I do historical fencing.
Fencing is awesome, and entails a crapton of work for conditioning and all. Medieval weapons are fun too. I don't really see the allure of Kendo...it's a very different sport.
Rate agree if you hate fencing lefties.
I like boxing. Anyway, I tried fencing at this camp once, nothing really serious about it, I got yelled at when I started stabbing and slashing at this other kid half my size like a damn maniac. Was still fun, though.
I used to fence. i thought Epee and Foil you had to hit with the tip and had right of way, and sabre can get points for slapping, and just whoever hit first got the point, no right of way.
Rate agree if you hate fencing lefties.
I'm a lefty. :c00l: But I'm so used to fighting righties now I fought a lefty at practice last sunday and it felt super weird.
I fenced once. Was beaten by a 50-year-old priest.
Why were you fencing with your penises?
I'm a lefty. :c00l: But I'm so used to fighting righties now I fought a lefty at practice last sunday and it felt super weird.
What blade do you use? I fence the sabre. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline]
Why were you fencing with your penises?
No, no, that was after the bout.
I can't use sabres for shit, they slip and fly everywhere.
I hate all the douchebag B and A rated guys who play in a bunch of scholastic league tournaments. There's this one guy, named Yiu, who is a B10, yet plays at every single game that has a bunch of Us.
nothing can make fencing cool. you might as well be a powdered-wig wearing frenchman taking it in the ass
I can't use sabres for shit, they slip and fly everywhere.
How so? Do you not have a very strong grip? [editline]15th February 2011[/editline]
nothing can make fencing cool. you might as well be a powdered-wig wearing frenchman taking it in the ass
Obviously you've never fenced or have seen fencing in real life. What else would you have, swordfighting where people are killed?
nothing can make fencing cool. you might as well be a powdered-wig wearing frenchman taking it in the ass
At least I participate in an organized sport. Do you take any sports?
What blade do you use? Do you take any sports?
No he's right it's totally gay we should take up a real sport where men pile on top of each other in order to get their hands on a ball None of this pussy swordfighting shit, that is a sport for real men!
Fencing sounds like a lot of fun, but only because I've harbored a secret love for swordfighting since I was a kid. I often have boffer-stick battle at home, and I get really overzealous about them. I pretend like I'm just being ironic, but really I love it. Being in a competitive swordfighting league would rock.

I took fencing lessons for a year or two. It was a lot of fun, and if you're thinking about it go ahead and do it! It's really awesome, and you learn a lot. Once I was in a tournament with a really experienced guy, and he had this habit of walking into the lane before assuming his ready stance. After I got poked a few times I realized I could hit him while he was still walking. So I did a full on Banzai charge straight at him and stuck my foil right onto his chest pad, and I scored a few times on him. :smug:
Bayonet fighting is a bit like it I'm told. Think of the montage from Army of Darkness where Bruce Campbell is training the pikemen and readying the army. That's basically exactly what happened. After twenty minutes of that we did two hours of drill and ceremony. The only actual violence that day came one somebody's weapon smacked another guy in the mouth and knocked out a tooth during a botched counter-column march.
I was expecting a parody thread about fences, was glad it was about actual fencing. Have been fencing for a few years now, started on Foil then moved to Sabre after a year. Am now doing all 3 quite often but stick to Sabre for competitions. Any UK Fencers doing the Birmingham International in April? Did it last year, got knocked out in the first round 15-13 but was a good day.
