I like the NWS/EAS alerts. They give the storm a creepiness that I like.
I fucking hate at like 3PM they would randomly just do a test and it scares the shit out of me. Or im watching tv really late and that test. I hear that siren and I think something really is going down till "THIS IS A TEST" well fuck you back to my fresh prince of bel air then
Wasn't the real legit nuclear attack broadcasts actually put up online ages ago.
I hate stuff like this, it literally scares me, and it still does. Just the way it is, Black background, the channel Logo, then other stuff, really creepy.
I have always wondered why they use beeps at random parts of the broadcast? is it just to grab attention or something?
It's the SAME header, because most EAS systems are setup in a relay fashion, where one broadcasts the main message with receivers that wait for the SAME header to begin it.

Interesting note on the severe warnings in the US: If a tornado is dangerous or life threatening and is approaching a large population mass, the national weather service can initiate a tornado emergency. Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tornado_Emergency_Alabama.ogg
I think the woman sounded like GMan's wife.
Does anyone know where to see the real one?

I loved that 'briefing'
Another incredibly terrifying (at least back in the day) sound would have definitely have to be the Stuka's 'Jericho trumpets", probably one of the most symbolic sounds from that time.

Now it's a generic sound for plane crashes.
The BBC said they created one of these when it was just them and ITV on air at the time, it was planned to interrupt both the BBC channels and ITV, but I don't think anyone's ever seen it

I find this disturbing enough:

I love how oyu people don't even know how your emergency warning system works or what it looks like.

The Emergency Broadcast System was actually retired 15 years ago and replaced by the Emergency Alert System, I guess most people wouldn't know that though

This gives me the creeps.
I remember when a little message popped up over the majority of stations here in the UK when the Queens mother died, it was pretty weird

They did the same with Diana (turn your volume up)

Woah there kiddo. I graduated top of my class from the navy seals.

Whatever you say, junior. I have two Ph.Ds in emergency systems, a masters in emergency broadcasting and a high school diploma in bullshitting.
Oh boy, I've got an excellent idea:
1) Invite friends for movie night.
2) Show them "Threads".
3) Wait 1 hour, let them calm down a little bit.
4) Tell them that you want to see something on BBC and play this video.
I am pretty sure that Windows 7 also has a similar system.
It was in the Windows 7 thread of Facepunch about the time it was still in beta, there was code that would change the screen to blue, CMD prompt style and would display messages about what was happening based on where you lived

I always thought that was a cool detail they had in MW2.

this youtube page here as some fake America EAS broadcasts.

I hope to god i don't see one of these any time soon.
Im pretty damn sure I will see one of these in my life time. since the queen is pretty much on her last 10-20 years, when she dies. im guessing all the UK channels will cut to news. would be pretty scary to be honest.
On a similar note, I can imagine that on 7/7, this was pretty scary to drivers...

True, But i'd rather see that than an Emergancy alert that shit has just hit the fan with something fierce like a Nuclear Attack.
I'm glad I've never seen an emergency thing in my area like that.
Mostly it's only NWS stuff.
I always get excited for those especially if I hear my county name being under the warning. I love nasty thunderstorms as long as I'm inside.
Internal sperg says "Everything is WRONG" but for artistic liscence, I'm OK with it.
So I was just looking around Wikipedia for info on the EAS/EBS, etc. Because it's pretty interesting, and found this.
If an enemy air strike was detected, a key on the left hand side of the console would be turned and two lights would come on. Then the operator would press & hold down a red button and give the message: "ATTACK WARNING RED! ATTACK WARNING RED!"
Looks like that last part isn't as wrong as we thought, although this is the system used during the Cold War, rather than now.
I dunno why, but the whole concept of a system that a government uses to alert their public to disasters is both chilling and incredibly interesting at the same time.

Any reason why on 7/7? I'm not from the UK.
