Fighting violence with violence is pointless, because it leads to more violence. What happens if Dad finds the weapons? He'll be even more mad, and will now be armed and dangerous. They can do it too, call the police, or alert someone. They just have to tell themselves that this is wrong and we can't help ourselves without helping the person help us.
