From what I'm aware of US law, you are not allowed to invoice a person (irregardless of their age now) a person at the time when they're under the age of 18. Same applies for suing, they need to invoice the parent(s). Therefore the bill is void. (Note: I'm not a Lawyer therefore the above statement shouldn't be taken without further research)
Isnt there a law saying it has to be within a certain amount of time?
You probobly havn't told your family yet, instead you come to FP, nice choice...
It happened so long ago, she can't really do anything about it now.

how the fuck can you get 12k medical bills from a push-bike accident with a tiny 12 year old, did you have a trailer attached to the back of it? are minor medical bills in America really expensive? sry browser fail , saw some above posts , were you a large 12 year old?
Oh, and there is a time limit in which she has to submit the invoice (I believe).
Better pay that bill. Normally she probably wouldn't be able to prove that you were the one that ran her over, but do you really want to risk the chance that this motherfucker could be on the case?
Ignore it.
It took me a fucking year to even get close to €4K worth of therapy, and even then my insurance covered the entire thing,
It was only a partial bill, i think.
She is probably broke now, and she's trying to get money.
Say that when you ran her over she touched you inappropriately and since you were a minor she'll go to jail for life and you can forget this ever happened.
there are other ways you can pay her
:smug:
cant stop thinking about that scene in yes man with the old woman now!!!!

She can't make you do anything. Even if this went to court there's like no chance you would be forced to pay the fines. Don't call her, don't contact her. Just tear up the bill, throw it away, it'll be her problem again soon enough. What kind of person sends you their bill without talking to you?
Hey there, FPers. A few minutes ago, i got a bill in the mail that made me wanna jump out of a freaking window. What follows is probably the biggest mistake ive ever made in my life. Okay, so about 8 years ago (I was 12), i went for a bike ride in the park with my dad. i was lagging behind, so i tried to go as fast as i could. That is, until i hit a huge hill and my brakes didnt work, and ended up going faster than i could. If that wasnt bad enough, there was a russian old lady taking pics at the bottom of the hill, and, well, you can guess the rest: “AUUUGGGHHHH!!! *crash*” So, surprisingly, i didnt have a scratch on me, and the lady was moaning in pain. Since i was really scared of consequences, on impulse I biked off. My dad called my weird name ( Which I wont disclose on here, ive heard the rumors FP) and called him saying i was coming. After today though, i think she heard my name as well. So, today i got a bill for medical expenses from 2002 that totaled over $13k. Since i have my own apartment now, i guess she white page'd my weird name and found me fast. Guys, i dont have close to 13k. What do i do?
Whoa whoa whoa, never admit guilt. You need to get a lawyer. Also, this happened 8 years ago. That amount of time alone might work for you instead of against you in a case like this. Don't respond to the bill, don't call any numbers that may be listed on it, etc. She heard your name and that's it, not enough to implicate you. Most importantly, stay calm and cool.

Respond with a paper with a huge question mark in an envelope

You ran over my mom and she doesn't care if you were twelve, you shouldn't have just droven off like that, you should know that she was in the hospital for half a year thanks to you! And now you don't even want to pay her after what you put her through?! You should be ashamed.
Okay, so i just checked the bill... she was in a hospice at the time of the bill. Does that mean shes... dead? Then whos sending the bill?

Although this whole thing sounds kind of sketchy, if you really did hit her, regardless of how old you were, you should at least try and figure out some way to help her with payments. I know for a fact that everyone posting in this thread would be posting a bawww thread if the shoes was on the other foot. "THIS STUPID LADY HIT ME AND NOW SHE WONT PAY MY MEDICAL BILLS!!! HELP ME FP, WHAT DO I DO!?"
Are we being set up for an elaborate troll story here?
Or her husband/son/daughter/sibling. My automerge has been broken.

Finish the job.
Okay, so i just checked the bill... she was in a hospice at the time of the bill. Does that mean shes... dead? Then whos sending the bill?
...no that means that she was at a nursing home or had a nurse come take care of her
