You probably have, but they aren't called hipsters in your area. Sometimes I call kids chavs even though I live in Canada, and my friends don't know what the hell I'm talking about because they don't browse the internet as much as I do.
I live in SoCal. It's probably a regional term.
I live in SoCal. It's probably a regional term.
Probably don't even have any there. I think SoCal is a place that most hipsters (and intelligent people (sorry!)) try to avoid.

The shoes and the hat definitely have a gangster feel to them.
But that's because most black people I ever see derive their style from gang-fashion.

Hey I don't like stereotypes
Hey I don't like stereotypes
Me neither. I just don't like SoCal at all. I don't like the stereotype of people from there, but I just don't like the area altogether.
And hipsters hate it because it is the antihipster. It should be on the opposite side of the world from Williamsburg.

What's wrong with SoCal?

The hat is just a beanie, everyone wears those in cities where it gets cold
The shoes are a hip hop thing. But gang fashion is derived largely from hip hop, not vice versa

Exactly.
What's wrong with SoCal?
Not my kind of place. Seems very material. I like places with more focus on music and art and less on TV.

Well, I did not know that. Forgive me.
But come on. I never see anyone except people in hiphop style wear their beanies like that. With the big onion-bubble on top.
Also, I do not understand the huge poofy shoe thing. How did that start?
Not my kind of place. Seems very material. I like places with more focus on music and art and less on TV.
Haha, I don't watch TV much and none of my friends do either.
But alot of people here (especially the mexicans and blacks) dress "gangsta" like in the OP.
Although I must say. I know some guys that live in socal on a longboarding forum. They're pretty neat guys. I never said the people suck. I just don't like it.
There's a difference between "gangsta" and indie/hipster.

Yeah. See, you guys seem cool.
It's just not my place, you know? Gotta live where it feels right.
Also, I do not understand the huge poofy shoe thing. How did that start?
I think it started from some rappers having big ass feet like T-Pain.

Makes sense, and I don't want to derail this thread farther.

It's been derailed from the start. We've talked about why skinny jeans are good/bad/gay for like most of the thread.
Note though. Don't judge people because they look like hipsters. Most 'hipsters' I know are really open minded people who just dress that way.
Well, I did not know that. Forgive me.

I don't really know. Maybe breakdancing?
Its not what hipsters are but funny thread.
Skinny jeans fit to your leg and move with you. They don't suffocate your balls. Wear a pair some time.
I tried them one time. My testicles turned into ovaries.
I tried them one time. My testicles turned into ovaries.
In which case you should know you aren't supposed to pull them up to your nipples.
Nobody here knows how to wear skinny jeans correctly. You have to sag them low enough to where they don't crush your balls. Then you pull your shirt down low enough to cover your boxers.
that's what you do if you listen to escape the fate and wear keffiyehs.
I saw a hipster at a drive-through movie theatre once. We didn't have anything else to do, so we were spying on him and laughing at him. A real hipster, though. Not a bullshit one like the OP described.
Good times.
black people != gangsters
why do you always instantly point out things like that
he didn't even say anything about him being black, just that the shoes were gangsterish
if you're trying to infer that he's buying into stereotypes, you're buying into one yourself

"Guide to wiggers" would be a better thread title.
However, wiggers and hipsters and "indie" and scene kids should go kill themselves just the same. So it doesn't really matter.
To anyone wondering,
Hipsters operate by trying to be impractical and uncool.
They avoid doing something they think is good because if they did then other people would do it aswell and they would cease to be "an individual". If you want concrete proof of this just observe the various hipster glasses, they just started rifleing through the eyewhere of their most elderly relitives with the hope that because their eyewhere is so ugly no one else will want to wear it.
The net result of this is a subculture that tries to be progressively crappier and crappier at everything with the hope no one will like it.
I would like to point out to all of you debating about skinny jeans: Men look best wearing jeans that just fit. Not overly baggy, not skin tight jeans.
