The quality of weed does have someone to do with it, I think. I prefer to smoke good shit out of my bong, where I can really taste it. I fill my blunts full of mids and sprinkle in some good shit to add a little extra kick. Saves a lot of money for me by doing that too.
I don't really like bongs or pipes. I much much prefer joints and spliffs. I haven't smoked weed in a few days so I can't exactly remember what I had tasted. Next time I do I'll write it down.
But it probably is just the quality. We don't have blueberry kush or lemon skunk around here. What we have is dank (so called by the ghetto boys selling it to you) or dirt (what the ghetto boys say their shit totally isn't).

This makes all the difference. You smoke some good shit and you can really enjoy it. I had some bud a while back that smelled strongly and tasted of this pine, almost pineapple-ish flavor. It was fluffy, delicious looking bud. Hard to smoke stuff that looks that nice, it looks good enough to eat!

IMO it's not cool, and a lot of people do it purely because they're addicted and need to smoke... But yeah, I don't think it's cool, and a fair few of my friends don't either.
