But static is so relaxing! I got to sleep listening to static!
I'm sure after awhile, you would just get over the static sound during the torture.
Interrogation that involves any form of pain is known to be more ineffective due to the fact they are willing to say anything to make it stop. However in the case of people who think they are willing to die before they speak, a glimpse of what could come brings in the survival aspect of your mind and you're more willing to do whatever it is if you think it will help you survive.
Physiological torture (waterboarding, etc) of any sort is unequivocally a violation of human rights. In addition to its ineffectiveness, it only supports the transformation of a good nation into a police state. I cannot say the same for psychological torture, but I can imagine that it's equally detrimental.
This is some of the shit they're blasting at the prisoners Now the majority of these prisoners are from Iraq and Afghanistan where they have nothing that compares to black metal at all. Imagine how scared shitless they are. So surely it's an effective technique.
You know, I never actually gave Deicide a listen before. Not sure why. Song is pretty groovy, actually. I like the how the vocals are almost rapping. Makes me think of the chorus of Cannibal Corpse's "Make Them Suffer" (at 01:27), which has a really powerful grooving rap to it. I love that in death metal. :v: ON TOPIC It doesn't really matter what they use for it. The point that makes it torture is the fact they play it loud enough to damage hearing, sometimes permanently. They could use a simple sine wave and accomplish the same thing, though admittedly happy songs like the Barney song are all the more torturous, accomplishing their "futility" thing. Of course, as with any other form of torture, I feel it shouldn't be used against any human being, regardless of their past. [editline]fish[/editline] And if they wanted to torture them with metal, I think cheesy power metal is a far more effective tool than techdeath/brutal death like Deicide. Though black metal like Anaal Nathrakh works, too. I've never been a fan of black metal, because even I consider that torturous. And I listen to death metal on a regular basis. :v:

A lot of bands never will never get on the level of maturity (compositionally, and lyrically) that say, Obscura, will. And that's why the music will be used to torture people.
is the pentagon calling it "torture-lite" now? i guess that's a step in the right direction from "enhanced interrogation"
It's basically torture, but with fewer calories.
cruel and unusual punishment.
There's no such thing as "cruel" punishment. Punishment obviously already is cruel.
