Thank goodness somebody articulated that better than everyone else so far. Its hard to explain a perspective/claim when noone can spell it out properly.
That guy makes a couple decent points, but I think he also misrepresents the issue. Mocking people on the internet isn't a form of comedy that's acceptable anywhere else, even though he tries to make it out like it is. You don't see comics go find random people, call them out by name on a national stage, and make fun of them. At MOST they mock famous millionaires or big name politicians.
There's a common understanding that it's not right to make fun of specific people just to make money off of it unless those people are very well off and/or mean spirited themselves. I might think the autistic guy down the street is weirdly awkward, but I'm not about to go mock him in public for it, even though I have the right to, and if I did, then people would be totally within their bounds when they called me out on it.

If that person says something absurd in public, is it wrong to rebuke their statement in public?
Also you're completely ignoring the fact that comedians have to work with the knowledge of their demographic. They make fun of well known people because their audience is more likely to know of them. Just because most US comedians don't make fun of Canadian politicians doesn't mean that it's a common understanding to not make fun of Canadians.
If that person says something absurd, is it wrong to say that what that person said is absurd?
Yea, except maybe not when they're just one person and you make a YouTube video that gets a million views and suddenly that person gets harassed by a shit load of people for a decent length of time because of one thing they said.
This kind of thing wouldn't be socially acceptable if it wasn't on YouTube.
honestly i probably sound like a hardcore h3h3 fanboy in this thread but i'm just sticking with who i honestly believe is in the right, and i want to explain exactly why.
Ethan made a video asking his FRIEND (mentioned multiple times throughout the video) to please stop bullying smaller people, kids, mentally challenged people, etc., people who can't handle the "criticism" because his fanbase is trash and he needs to acknowledge it. It honestly didn't sound like he wanted to make the video, so maybe something happened in a private conversation between Ethan and Leafy that we do not know about because Ethan doesn't want to show private conversations, and Leafy won't show it because people might disagree with him. That's just a theory tho. All Leafy had to do was apologize and tone it down.
Instead, he is quick to defend himself while also making a half-assed apology and his fan base ate it up. Not to mention all the hate Ethan got from his fans just because of the videos existence. Whatever, it can just stop there. Leafy then starts talking about how he just wanted the drama to end, WHILE pulling Pyro into it by sending him private DMs taken out of context. Now Pyro and Leafy's fanbase think Ethan was hating on Pyro, calling him shit and a rip-off, but everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that while Ethan was taking a piss on Pyro, Leafy was fucking shitting on Pyro's face in these PRIVATE DMs that Leafy is trying to push as proof that Ethan is a hypocrite.
I admit that Ethan was being kind of a dick, but it's nothing compared to the shit Leafy was saying about Pyro. And of course Ethan's channel is gonna suffer more, Leafy's fanbase is way more fucking cancerous. Ethan was just trying to support smaller YouTubers and people who can't take bullying as hard as others and it honestly seemed like he was trying to be respectful. Leafy is trying to turn everyone against Ethan, and in turn started this whole mess, while at the same time saying
Hopefully we can now just end this drama. Because this shit is lowkey making me want to bleach myself
You're doing a good job at ending this drama that you're instigating m8. Keep it up.

In that situation you are essentially saying if you are popular you shouldn't speak. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if there was some harassment of the people H3H3 roasts. It wouldn't be H3H3's fault, it would be the harassers fault. H3H3, as far as I know doesn't promote harassing his roasts.
Besides, he's in Israe
Who? Ethan?
He moved to the United States like a year or two ago.

I dunno man, it's a hard call. But we have to draw the line somewhere, the crying guy in the video that started all this could've just as easily been someone that h3h3 'roasted' in one of his videos, it's just a teeny bit hypocritical to judge someone for doing a roast video of some guy and without (as far as I know) encouraging people to harass the guy have that guy upload a video crying about being harassed when you yourself do the exact same thing and just weren't unlucky enough to have it bite you in the ass.
My suggestion would be that if you're a big channel, you should keep to attacking other big channels and well-known e-celebs or people who are actual douchebags and not just awkward people, types who wouldn't be unfairly threatened by a massive dogpile of people swarming them.
this drama is basically fueled by tweens who grew up in this web 2.0 hellhole with no real reference to any other social dynamics
I hate this video for one fucking thing, this guy has the balls to shit talk h3h3 and then post his tweet of his fucking DM's BUT HE'S DOING THE SAME FUCKING THING.
to be fair h3h3's mannerisms and style of his early videos were a little more than 'inspired' by a certain milliondollarextreme vid, and i wouldn't hold that against him since he's actually funny

Which vid? It doesn't sound familiar but I forget some of MDE's earlier stuff.
I guess ethan starting shit was worth it just because tommyNC deserved justice and positive attention. It should have been left at that.

Welcome to yt where people end friendships to get youtube money
Welcome to yt where people end friendships to get youtube money
the sad thing is that it's not just youtube lol, reality really is shit but hey what can ya do
Which vid? It doesn't sound familiar but I forget some of MDE's earlier stuff.

This whole "Youtube Drama" thing is a joke
I mean, it's just a video sharing website
Except it's the Internet, where 70% of conflicts begin and end with shit flinging.
Seeing stuff like this also happen on Youtube really isn't surprising and it's definitely not the first time it has happened either.
It sucks that people are saying that they'll still like Ethan for his content.
That means that he's no longer likable as a person. His personality and his relationship with Hila was my favorite part of h3h3. Why did he have to go and do all this shit?? Its a betrayal of his fans.
I don't think he's any less likable though
Frankly even after all this I still think Ethan's, fine as a person.
pyrocynical is the real cancer here. man is literally putting leafy is here and other tags like that to attract his fans to the channel.
He's also doing ethans cough gag and running it into the ground.

It really annoys me when people put this sophisticated radio voice and accent on and do these cartoony-ass condescending villain laughs to give off an air that they're somehow above everyone
It really annoys me when people put this sophisticated radio voice and accent on and do these cartoony-ass condescending villain laughs to give off an air that they're somehow above everyone
That's his actual voice.
Have you considered that you might just be projecting because you disagree with his opinion?
I don't think he's any less likable though
it tarnishes it for me. The ethan i thought i knew wouldnt give a shit about any of this. The fact other youtubers legit piss him off behind the scenes doesn't seem like the person he portrays on camera, and that means hes kinda playing a character and that sucks. Or at least thats my mental reasoning. I just think leafy isn't worth his time.

Everyone's has secrets that are probably best left private, don't expect more from people just because they're famous.

i can feel sad that success is changing something i'm a fan of
its kinda happening with mega64 too (been happening for years really)
This is so schoolyard. Grow up and make people laugh like you're supposed to.
He keeps repeating himself over and over in the video, its was like 6 minutes of the same thing.
Welcome to Leafy. Literally every video.
"HAHA THIS IS MESSED UP UR AUTISTIC"
"ALIENS ABDUCT ME PLEASE"
"LIKE AND ILL GIVE YOU x OBJECT"
rinse and repeat
to anyone thinking Ethan started all this, think of this scenario:
A bully starts picking on an autistic kid at school, and his group of friends keep harassing him until the autistic kid literally breaks out into tears. you see this and confront the bully and tell him what he's been doing is wrong, then the bully, realizing he fucked up, tries to save face rather than directly apologizing the the autistic kid.
Who started it? Who is in the wrong?
If anyone is legitimately trying to defend Leafy in all this, I have no words.
I still have a bad taste in my mouth from when Leafy's fans were going into every YouTube video they could find and spamming the comments with something like "HISSSSSS The Leafy army is here" or whatever the fuck it was. I have no idea if he actually incited them to do this or if they were just doing it on their own, but still. YouTube comments are generally shit but it's 10x worse when someone is making a concerted effort to make them shit.

If ethan kept this lowkey and just messaged leafy I'm sure he would've removed the video and made the apology video. But he didn't and started a whole lot of drama.

calling out people who bully little kids and people with obvious mental handicaps is totally justified. If Ethan was bullying people I would want to know, I wouldn't want to keep it lowkey. If someone is a douchebag I want them called out on it, it brings attention to it and makes them change. If they don't change then everyone knows to avoid them. The sad part is Leafy's 12 year old army is never gonna let this go, he could kill a man and they would find a way to defend him
That's his actual voice.

so you're telling me that the voice he puts on at 1:27 and 0:22 is his normal voice? crazy how much it changes
stop using the word projecting for every single little thing btw
