I got a question I might as well ask since it’s related to brushing teeth. Electric or normal toothbrush? I use a normal one that I swap out for a new one every so often, but my mother is trying to get me to use an electric one. Are electric toothbrushes really any better?
Jesus Christ guys, brushing and flossing your teeth barely takes any time out of your day. At most (for me at least, cause I have some Wire behind my teeth holding them in place after having Braces for 2 years) it takes me 7-10 minutes. What sounds better? Taking 7-10 minutes out of your day. Or having Pain, and seeing a dentist for an hour more often than you need to. I see a dentist every 6 months. It takes 2 hours out of my entire year, maybe if it's something serious then yeah a bit longer, but knowing that it's all fixed and not getting worse is worth it for me. This is what you do, Brush your teeth, and floss when you wake up before you eat. You'll be groggy and tired sure but while you do that you'll start to wake up. Then you can have breakfast and go about your day.

just have a few shots of absinthe that'll get rid of that pesky plaque
Ive had a few lapses in my brushing due to depression but I've gotten a lot better at it. Flossing too. Had enough of the shame my dentist put on me when I would bleed lol My two best daily dental care tips: 1) Whenever you have to piss at morning/at night, take the chance to brush your teeth as well. Knocks out two birds with one stone, and gets a bodily necessity to get you out of whatever you're doing to brush. 2) Floss while watching a twitch stream/TV/Youtube. It gets so much easier over time and you'll be able to make a habit out of it in no time at all. Also I recommend mouthwash whenever you brush and dentist checkups/cleanings when you can afford to. I usually try to get one in once a year, and of course you should always see a dentist when you have serious pain or long-term issues.
tooth pain is no joke. i had to go to the emergency room for morphine for my problem tooth that just sort of caved in one day. the morphine didn't even help.
:vomit:
I had this scenario happen to me, minus falling into a coma and the tooth decay. It's even less fun than the video makes it sound. I developed type-1 diabetes just before turning 25. For the first month it was just lethargy and frequent thirst. I wasn't too concerned, but I tried changing my diet around to see if I could affect it. Less salt, less sugar, more fruit, etc, all to no effect. In the week leading up to my visit to the emergency room I had lost 20 lbs, drank so much water that I could no longer eat anything, got so disgusted by the taste of water that I was almost vomiting it back up, was waking up out of breath with aching lungs every morning feeling like I had just run a marathon full sprint, couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without needing a rest, was nearly choking on food every time I tried to eat and tasted everything that I ate for days because I wasn't producing saliva, and finally, I was starting to lose my vision. I went from thin and fit, to a skeleton that could barely walk in the span of a few weeks. If your body isn't holding water, don't wait another day to go to a hospital, much less another week.
Are these just stories or actual cases? He never shows sources to back up his videos. Surprised "Storytime" isn't written at the end of the title.
You can find some of them pretty easily, like the mercury woman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Wetterhahn Some of the others are harder to find though using google.
Eeeehhh what, back in 2012 to 2013 I had a severe period of depression and stopped brushing my teeth for a year, all I did was sat inside at my PC drinking a 1,5 liter coke bottle every day - never had any problems other than my teeth going a bit more yellow. Though I can imagine it gets (apparently a lot) easier for a middle aged person to develop problems.
Can a SLS allergy cause severe tongue burning pains and swelling of the tongue? I posted in another thread semi-recently related to teeth brushing saying I have always immensely struggled with brushing my teeth because just about every tooth paste I've ever tried makes my tongue feel like it's on fire. Pain to the near point of tears. My dentist is totally clueless about this sort of thing apparently and keeps suggesting tooth paste for sensitive teeth. And if so, can one find SLS free tooth paste in a standard (talking Wal-Mart standard here) grocery store? I can't afford to repeatedly buy tooth pase from fucking Amazon...

There are 86400 seconds in a day. You only need 30 of those seconds to get your teeth relatively clean (the more the better, obviously). I think everyone can stand from spending at least 0.03% of a day brushing their teeth.
i keep forgetting to brush my teeth, but i only do it when i need to go somewhere. But for some reason my teeth are just fine, with a exception for 3 decaying teeth (two of them were cemented 3 years ago, they were more severely decayed)
Christ I need to brush my teeth more I've been doing it once every 2-3 days, I need to step my game up. Gonna start doing it twice a day. I need to make this a habit.
I used to brush my teeth only once a day but after recently having to have four different dental appointments to get cavities filled, I now brush my teeth in the morning and at night, use mouthwash every night, and floss every other night. If only because I'm afraid of damaging the fillings I have between my teeth if I use it every night. I've had fillings come out before and it was really fucking annoying lol so I'm gonna avoid that. Can only use zero alcohol mouthwash now though because after using this mother fucker: [t]https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/d544b271-c0e1-4eea-9853-ab0b88ea4668_1.d3a77dde3db04874fbac3d873a4edf1b.jpeg?odnHeight=450&odnWidth=450&odnBg=FFFFFF[/t] I got a chemical burn on my tongue so now any mouthwash with alcohol is incredibly painful. SUCKS. Anyway, please brush your teeth, it's gross as hell to literally everyone if you don't.
I think it's also important to keep in mind that the dad was also heavily obese because of eating tons of sugar filled sweets and not getting any kind of exercice so it wasn't just the lack of brushing teeth part alone causing the chain reaction.
Its pretty disgusting how many of you guys don't brush your teeth at least once a a day... Doesn't that feel fucking gross? And do you guys ever talk to or kiss anyone? Not brushing at least everyday is an absurd concept to me, I'm surprised how many of you don't feel that way. Do you guys bathe regularly?

This video & thread should be renamed to: "This poor bastard ate like shit, drank semi-solid sugar-paste & liquid-sugar for months without exercise and now suffers from diabetes." Or did I miss the part where not brushing his teeth gave him diabetes ?
How do I floss without using 2km of floss?
Learn to floss properly, just keep the string wrapped between 2 fingers, and don't use more than your first amount? Like watch a youtube video or something. If in doubt, these are super convenient and ever since I started buying them I've been much better about flossing because its so easy to just grab one.
Yeah there is something about tooth aches, they just don't act like normal pain, its like the torture version of pain. I've been kept in bed for a few days just for tooth aches.
Owing to a lack of proper dental hygiene as a child, one of incisors broke in half in my teens. At the time the dentist gave me (really my mom) a choice: Either try and save the tooth and build a replacement around the nerve, or do a full root canal and replace it. The former was easier, less painful, and a whole lot cheaper so we went with that. They numbed the site, screwed two metal pins in, and build a new tooth out of some kind of material. I was in and out in 45 minutes and what little gum soreness I had dissipated through the day. Fast forward to just a couple years ago and I start getting some light pain in that area. I think nothing of it until 3 days later the pain is headsplitting. I'm talking curled up in a fetal position in my bed trying to think about anything else except the pain. Speaking as someone who has passed a kidney stone before, I'd class that as a 7 compared to the 9 of what I was experiencing that night. After being awake all night I called in sick to work and made the earliest dentist appointment I could. The first thing they did was take Xrays which revealed the problem immediately: One of the two pins that had been put on either side of the nerve had, over time, slowly migrated to into the nerve itself. The site was so inflamed that two doses of whatever anesthetic they inject did nothing and the dentist couldn't operate. He just wrote me a prescription for painkillers and told me to wait out the nerve dying. It steadily got better over the course of a few days and when I finally went back in to get it treated, I had to get the original root canal I had avoided before. Take care of your teeth people. That shit will catch back up to you.
How do I floss without using 2km of floss?
I use the sticks myself. But there are a lot of guides off of google, and then you just need a bit of practice. Though I wouldn't force myself to learn to use them if there's no reason to. Sticks iirc are found to be pretty equivalent to old-school flossing when it comes to your health. You do need to use the right technique tho; don't just move it up and down the side of the tooth, but move it towards the front and back of each tooth as well. [thumb]https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1U6wZSpXXXXXUXXXXq6xXFXXXo.jpg[/thumb] There's also interdental brushes, which are reusable and do seem to work.
I don't want to stereotype Facepunchers as greasy basement-dwelling nerds but the number of people here who can't even be bothered to brush their teeth regularly makes that really fucking hard.
I can only brush my teeth with non mint toothpaste since im allergic to mint. It really puts a higher price on toothpaste and it sucks paying a dollar or two extra for a good nonmint toothpaste.
