Thanks, that works for some things, but I meant like when I make a ball and I want it to have gradient shading or something. Is that easily doable in MSpaint or do I have to do it pixel by pixel?
Gradients are BAD on balls. Don't do it.

Balls of steel for example.

Ok, it was just an example, ATM I am trying to make a medival Thief/Rogue female with two small blades and a big cape, and I wondered how I could make good gradients on the cape, but I guess I COULD do it with a more of a Fire Emblem-ish style and keep the shading to a minimum. (6 colors max I think)
Start with 2 colour-shading first (one for light areas, one for dark areas) and work your way up from there instead of going for the hardest at first and failing.

That's what I've been doing so far, but thanks for the thought
Could you post something you've drawn?

No

At least not yet. Plus I suck anyway, so there's not really anything to look at.
So you're going to do some pretty advanced shading even if you suck? I don't know, it's probably for the best if you just start easy and post what you've drawn so far so that we can help you to point out any flaws you've got right now.

She looks like she's pretty pissed so you failed at the no emotions expression...

Yeah, I "fixed" that in the update. I think it has something with the line of the eye-patch going over the eye. I guess I'll add some eyebrows and I'll see what happens
[editline]o[/editline]
Nope, she still looks pretty pissed :I
:sigh: I can't draw the left eye because I suck at propotions and the eye-patch makes her look angry.
A) Let her be angry
B) FREAK OUT
Anyway, does anyone here know of a good way of drawing mouths? (Not bigger than 5x5 pixels)
Gradients are only good for effects like fire and energy outbursts. For shading a cape you would be better off with adding folds and shading said folds.

Good advice, I will do this instead. Do you have any tips for how to make said folds? Should I just use a reference picture?

You need to make the mirror thing on the top of his head propotional with the face. Make it an oval slightly rotated to the right. The neck-place needs some fixing. Other than that, good job for a first :D
