They're all just really badly written and don't fit the mood at all
Don't fit the mood at all? What the fuck are you talking about?
They're all just really badly written and don't fit the mood at all
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by don't fit the mood. They all come in at the most opportune moments. Let Me Drive my van into you heart comes in and brings why Rose loved Greg in the first place and used his catchphrase for the Laser Light Cannon Giant Woman is brought on by Steven's desire to see Amethyst and Pearl fuse Strong in the Real Way comes in after Pearl is jealous of Sugilite because Steven idolizes her Steven and the Stevens/Crystal Gems makes sense since the entire episode is based around Steven trying to find a way to play the Beach City Music festival Be Wherever You are is used to pass the time on the island that Sadie, Lars and Steven are trapped on. On the Run is basically Amethyst's Lament about not being able to fit in with the rest of the Gems and tells of Steven and her running away Stronger Than You is completely about Garnet's relationship between Ruby and Sapphire and how their bond makes them Stronger than you Full Disclosure is Steven's Lament about protecting Connie from the dangers of the homeworld gems and how he wants to grow farther apart from her. What Can I Do For You showcases the love that Rose and Greg have and the jealousy that Pearl has for the both of them Do It For Her is about Connie learning to sword fight and protect Steven and Pearl reminiscing about Protecting Rose constantly during the War against homeworld And Finally, Tower of Mistakes is about Amethyst being jealous of Pearl for fusing with Garnet to form Sardonyx and that she misses being powerful when fused with Garnet
i dont watch these cartoons but it makes me cringe when people go "lol adults watching cartoons and taking them seriously, what manchildren losers" and then they go back to doing the exact same thing in a videogame
:snip: i guess a thread about the show isn't the place to discuss the show
[sp] I thought the entire story occurred in the one guys head while they were sinking into the river? [/sp]
It makes it look like it's heading that way but [sp]the frog still has the magic glowing thing that it ate inside its stomach so it can't have not happened.[/sp]
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by don't fit the mood. They all come in at the most opportune moments. -songs-
no offence but you really didn't have to post them all :v:
I don't get why grown people are obsessed with children's cartoons and try to quantify them as something other than a children's cartoon. Every time someone asks me "bro, do you watch Adventure Time? it's so trippy man" I throw up a little in my mouth.
no offence but you really didn't have to post them all :v:
But how am I suppose to get my point across? :v:
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by don't fit the mood. They all come in at the most opportune moments. -bunch of songs from the show-
I love the show and all, but I do have to admit there are some songs that come along and I'm like "argh, another song". Songs like Stronger than You and Do It for Him are great, but the recent song Tower of Mistakes came out of nowhere to me.
Maybe I'm a little biased since I like musicals, but the songs are some of the best parts to me and none of them felt out of place at all.
I don't get why grown people are obsessed with children's cartoons and try to quantify them as something other than a children's cartoon. Every time someone asks me "bro, do you watch Adventure Time? it's so trippy man" I throw up a little in my mouth.
I don't get why some people have to try and rain on other people's parades. Seriously, being an adult doesn't mean someone can't really enjoy cartoons. And like Steven Universe, many cartoons aren't even aimed exclusively at children and like to play with themes that adults would find appealing. Besides, if there weren't any adults who were "obsessed" with cartoons, there wouldn't be anyone to make them.

Every time someone says they like a movie from Disney or Pixar I want to die because they shouldn't like a movie that's intended for kids fuckin cancer amirite why can't they like only good things that have swears and violence in them made for a mature adult like me.
Well that caught me off guard. Sorry if it's too big. [vid]http://webmup.com/d4ed5/vid.webm[/vid]
ughh I hate the pilot designs, they're so ugly and make Steven look like the dumb fat kid
I don't watch SU but isn't that the point? Every time someone asks me "bro, do you watch Adventure Time? it's so trippy man" I throw up a little in my mouth.
Avatar is a lot more than just some dumb kids show, as an example, it actually had some pretty solid lore and humor adults could still enjoy. same with Star Wars: The clone wars. Even Ben 10 was pretty OK but that's pushing it. not every childrens show is just a childrens show. They are still made by adults you know. It just happens that too many of them use dumb kid logic. [editline]16th July 2015[/editline]
But how am I suppose to get my point across? :v:
I think posting them all may have done the opposite of what you intended
I don't watch SU but isn't that the point?
it is, but the reason they changed it was so they'd be easier the animate.
Imo Steven Universe elevates cartoons as an art form. I find it interesting that she retconned the pilot for this extended intro though. The characters, world building, tone and music are very well written and conceptualized. As far as CN shows go Adventure Time is my least favorite, but Gumball and Steven are top. Also I think complaining about the random song breaks takes away from the kickass background music and theme songs. I feel like you haven't even seen the show if you try to compare it to something like Ed Edd & Eddy. It's in a whole nother ballpark. I dragged my feet on watching it since I tend to do that when everyone in the world is telling me to watch it, but since starting I have no ragrets.
and this guy art directed on it
ayy
I dunno, I've given the show a fair chance, and I followed it for a while but it's been boring me a lot lately. Most of the humor I didn't enjoy, and other than Steven and his dad I didn't care for any of the other characters. The songs didn't do much for me given how the big bad Jasper's personality was so bland I'm worried what the other major villains will be like. It's a really pretty looking show, and I love the colours and settings it goes for - but it's meh to me. I'd say watch it if you haven't so far, you might like it, but I don't think it'll keep you entertained for very long.
Like every other tv show to ever exist, just give it a shot, you ain't got shit to lose anyways.
Eh, something about these modern Cartoon Network shows just rubs me up the wrong way. I don't know, maybe it's just my imagination, but it always seems like they're trying to be so.... snarky... and cutting edge. Like they can't just be cartoons for kids, they have to try and be these art pieces so that tumblrites can reblog 40 gifs of their favorite moments. I dunno, it just feels like noodly armed western slice of life anime to me. [editline]12th July 2015[/editline] Not saying it's bad, or that you're awful for liking it or anything, I just don't get it. Feels like it's pandering to this audience that i'm just not a part of.
I actually think you're right when it comes to Adventure Time but Regular Show is just JG Quintel and his team trying to make something funny and entertaining and pay tribute to things he likes, and Steven Universe is incredibly creative and expressive in ways that most media doesn't come close to, the fact that it's appealing for children too is only a good thing because they're exposed to media of a higher standard from a young age. Making absolute shit for kids because they'll watch whatever is put in front of them is the approach that gave us Minions.
ughh I hate the pilot designs, they're so ugly and make Steven look like the dumb fat kid
Implying he doesn't in the actual series?
As for Over the Garden Wall [sp]did you guys miss the ending montage where they show how the lives of the inhabitants of the Unknown were changed by the brothers? The plot twist is that everything takes place in modern times, not that the Unknown doesn't actually exist[/sp]
I don't see how anyone can take this show seriously, whether it's a cartoon or not. There are plenty of awesome animated shows that any age group can watch it's like its trying to be deep and meaningful but everything else, including the fanbase, contradicts this

Feels like it's pandering to this audience that i'm just not a part of.
You know these showrunners are humans with interests and preferences and shit right? You know the whole reason why they became animators and storyboarders and writers and went to the extreme of starting a fucking tv show on tv is because they love doing it, right? You don't like it/relate to it, fine. Cool. But it's not about you. It's not even about the people that do like it. The only reason why anyone creates anything is to get something off their chest; to share their pain with the world in hopes that they aren't alone in it, to bring into fruition something they've always wanted to see, but haven't. Shit like that. I know for a fact that when I've made animated shorts, I make them for me and me alone. People like them, and that's cool, but I don't really give a fuck.
it's like its trying to be deep and meaningful
Like I said, it's not trying to be anything. It just is what it is, which is an extension of its creators. Take it or leave it.
Like I said, it's not trying to be anything. It just is what it is, which is an extension of its creators. Take it or leave it.
This is just my opinion, but I feel like trying to extend adult themes, social opinions, and complex characters is just wasted on a "children's show". It's the reason why MLP and AT is popular with adults who think theres some sort of deeper meaning to it all, but they can't handle diving into something that's not spoon-fed in a way that these shows are presented. If you disagree that's cool, I don't hate on people who like certain things, but personally I just don't find them entertaining
At the end of the day, it's just a show that's trying to entertain a demographic that a big community likes.
About it being meaningful, didn't the SU creators say that they intentionally made the show so that viewers can find meaning in it?
At the end of the day, it's just a show that's trying to entertain a demographic that a big community likes.
At the end of the day, they're shows picked up from pilots that tested well with large enough demographics to have a show funded. There's key differences there.
This is just my opinion, but I feel like trying to extend adult themes, social opinions, and complex characters is just wasted on a "children's show".
They're made by adults. Actual live humans with concerns and agendas and shit. They write what they know. End of. Period. Full stop. They're not trying to do anything but write scripts that entertain themselves on a base level and hope it gets to other people too. If it doesn't, well they wouldn't have had the show picked up in the first place if they were that niche.
This is just my opinion,
Your opinion comes from a base misunderstanding of the motivation behind any sort of creative venture.

Surely it's no misunderstanding something if you don't happen to agree with such motivation and creative choices?
