Lord of the Rings: Return of the King- 10/10 Looking back, it was the best of the three. Or at least it is when it's the extended edition. And so concludes watching the LOTR Trilogy Extended Editions. Aladdin: 8/10
That ending had me in manly tears :( best trilogy ever.
Tangled 8/10 Found it enjoyable, even though it's a 'girls / kids film'.
that reminds me hard candy 4/10 sure the movie is compelling and i would recommend it to anyone and it was definitely worth watching i'll just never ever watch it again. [sp]the movie didn't allow me to like either of the main characters, it didn't allow me to strongly dislike them either. juno is an arrogant smarmy god complexed bitch but it's possibly (almost certainly actually) justified by the fact that she went through trauma of her own. night owl is a downright creeper but but all he does throughout the movie is suffer, apart from the creeper-ness in the beginning we are only told of his unspeakable acts, as unspeakable things happen to him, while there is a very large and good reason to fucking hate the bastard those reasons are dictated to me by someone i don't like in the first place and even if you like her we never see any of his fucked up deeds go down. offscreen action has much less oomph to it than onscreen action[/sp]
I really enjoyed contagion. It's interesting to note that Cheever said the Spanish Flu killed only 1% of the global population. In reality, it is believed to have killed almost 5% of the world population.
I believe that the great film speech is long gone nowadays. Hollywood seems to favor big explosions and big tits over big ideas. An idea is controversial. An idea is something you can stand behind. A GOOD idea is something that will survive eras; survive social and economic turmoil. Will people look back at the history of screen arts and remember how hot Megan Fox was or how big our explosions were? I find that to be exceedingly unlikely. If we would just stop kowtowing to distributors and the MPAA, we could create films worthy of our generation. We are not a stupid generation, but if our grandchildren know of us as what Michael Bay has injected into our culture like a drug that drains our spirits and starves our intellects, then what will they think of us? They'll think they're the descendants of imbeciles. They will mock us. And if we allow the politically correct liberals and the morally uptight conservatives to continue to extract the messages out of our films and replace them with banal cliches and listless banter, then we will be deserving of their mockery.
Do you really believe generations before us didn't have any schlock? The schlock is forgotten & the great is remembered. It will be the same for our generation's films.
3/10 Whenever it tries to be an over the top satirical gorefest à la Paul Veerhoeven, it works. Whenever it tries to conjure up any genuine emotion for any of the characters in the viewer(which is more often than not), it falls flat on its face, and the most interesting character in the film being a silent antagonist that gets <10 minutes of screen time and zero character development certainly dooesn't help matters. No good. 5/10 A decent premise wasted by predictability, repetitiveness and two-dimensional, clichéd characters. If you've seen one Korean revenge flick, you've seen 'em all.
Hollywood has pretty much always been shit. Here are some of the top grossing movies of 1980, not counting the obvious big hits like Empire Strikes Back http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080319/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081562/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080377/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081375/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081529/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080453/ As you can see by the scores and the fact that no one mentions like any of these movies there was always a lot of mediocrity Source

8/10 Good movie, made by the creators of South Park, who apparently like playing with dolls. Pretty good unless you have no sense of humor. America, Fuck yeah!

That wasn't exactly an original speech at all... Compare it to something like "The Great Dictator" or "Patton". The writing for those movies were absolutely sublime and can't be compared to any personality on earth.
that reminds me hard candy 4/10 sure the movie is compelling and i would recommend it to anyone and it was definitely worth watching i'll just never ever watch it again.
I thought the movie served the role of putting both feet of pedophiles back on the ground pretty well. In times people called me pedo this movie showed me otherwise. Besides, the ending can be pretty memorable. [editline]24th September 2011[/editline]
I understand, but it seems like film speeches are very few and far between these days. I know they weren't required in every film back then, but they showed up a lot in high grossing movies, that's for damn sure. A recent example of a great film speech would obviously be "The King's Speech".
I liked the king's speech, but i also believe speeches serve no special roles in movies. Most of the times anyway. They are usually used to make people feel good, bad or guilty. A movie without emotions isn't a good one, and a speech is a simple way to get that. Like that discovery ad. It makes you feel good about what others have done, so that you can continue watching their channel.
Why would you rate Battle Royale higher than I saw the devil? Battle Royale kind of sucks
Good point, actually. Battle Royale deserves like a 3-4/10, I dunno what I was thinking when I gave it a 6.
and I Saw The Devil is excellent
Wrong. I Saw The Devil is as banal and hackneyed as it gets. Like, say, The Matrix, it ain't a movie of its own as much as it is a compilation of scenes from other, better movies, and it brings nothing new to the table other than loads of gore. As I said, it's predictable, repetitive, and the characters are are cardboard cutouts.
you literally have the worst taste of anybody I've ever seen and you think it's the best
Wrong again. Good grief, you really oughta stop being wrong.

Besides, the ending can be pretty memorable.
i can't understand anything you just said. and by the way a pedophile is one who has a sexual taste for prepubescents, like, you know, children. nite owl was a ephebophilac from what we can tell, basically a jailbait catcher, 15-17 (and onwards to 19 in the official definition but any 18 or 19 year olds he fucked it would have been legal). that's one thing that annoyed me so much about juno in this movie, she kept calling him a pedo when he wasn't chasing children in a big black van full of candy.
Any opinions regarding Melancholia?
"Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide into the Earth." first thing i saw when i googled it. i lol'd OMG UR SUCH A BITCH, U DUM HOE. NO U. *obliviously continues as a massive object looms over head then collides with the earth*
I haven't seen ONE movie that you genuinely like.
I've rated a decent amount of films in this thread highly.
Have you seen Blue Velvet? It's his favorite movie.
Also this.
Saw "Drive" with my buddy last week. 9/10 most definitely. Flowed very well from start to finish and had some of the most bad-ass moments (Ryan Gosling) I've seen recently.
Grave of the Fireflies - 7/10 I felt the characters were fairly bland and the story was predictable. The animation however was excellent.
Grave of the Fireflies - 7/10 I felt the characters were fairly bland and the story was predictable. Which was exaclty what the director wanted and completely ghibli style. Some people feel bad for him, but they are wrong.
Grave of the Fireflies wasn't really as sad as people made it out to be, the main reason why, is because it was so predictable.
Watched Titanic again last night, for the first time since it's original release. I shouldn't have. I cried myself to sleep. I'm such a pussy. [8/10]
Titanic tried too hard to be sad, was still a decent movie though.
The Departed 10/10 Still my most favorite film of all time. Never ceases to amaze me. Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii 10/10 What else is there to say?
