I don't get it. The main character in Blue Velvet was pretty much a sick bastard. How can you fool your highschool sweetheart that she's the one while screwing some weirdo on the side. Don't forget the violent sex.
I don't see your point to be honest. [editline]2nd October 2011[/editline] I don't need to enjoy a movie in order for it to make an impression on me. I watched Julien Donkey-Boy quite some time ago, and while I didn't enjoy it at all, it's a movie which I still remember quite vividly, whilst Boogie Nights, on the other hand, is a movie which I highly doubt I will remember very much of in, say, a year. There was not a single moment, a single scene in the whole movie that impressed me or made me give a shit about anything that was happening on-screen, and that's terrible.
I think the live version is coming to my area soon, I should probably go to that eventually
Stand By Me (it was just shown on channel 5, before The Goonies) 10/10!

Watch the Colours trilogy. Better than Blue Velvet in terms of being artful.
I'm not the biggest David Lynch fan in the world, really. I personally think that Stanley Kubrick is the greatest director of all time, even over Hitchcock. The thing is, even if you don't love his films, you can't help getting sucked in by how they look. "A Clockwork Orange" and "2001" are the best examples of that.
Stanley Kubrick is great. Everyone in the world knows him now so we can't get tired of praising his work. But watching things like the Colours trilogy, which is by another director (Krzysztof Kieślowski) makes you think that you're missing something.

And I've been planning to watch the Colours trilogy for a while now, I've heard nothing but praise for those flicks.
Movies like that are pretty much for your own experience.. it's more personal to watch it alone so you can know the character. The second one (white) is a bit more light hearted than the other two though. [editline]2nd October 2011[/editline] Have you seen Ikiru and Seven Samurai too? Those are must watches for someone who enjoys their emotional stuff.
Well clearly it's not the type of movie for you... Watch the Colours trilogy. Better than Blue Velvet in terms of being artful.
When are you gonna watch the Decalogue?
When are you gonna watch the Decalogue?
soon.. I need to watch Koyaanisqatsi too
soon.. I need to watch Koyaanisqatsi too
Hey have you heard of Baraka? It's like Koyaanisqatsi, but better.
Made by same person?
Have you seen Ikiru and Seven Samurai too? Those are must watches for someone who enjoys their emotional stuff.
Saw both ages ago, loved both. Should probably rewatch them.
Made by same person?
The guy who made it was the cinematographer for Koyablahblahblah.
The guy who made it was the cinematographer for Koyablahblahblah.
Awesome. It seems like a type of Cinema I've been missing. Greatly look forward to it. Tonight I'm watching Tree Of Life... have no idea what to expect.
Awesome. It seems like a type of Cinema I've been missing. Greatly look forward to it.
Be sure to get it on blu-ray.
I'm fairly sure movies like that are meant to be seen in the theater... but oh well.
Miller's Crossing 9/10 Never gets old, love this film!
the girl who played with fire 9/10
Is that as good as "The girl with the dragon tattoo"?
if you liked the girl with the dragon tattoo you'll like this one. this one was more suspenseful, i think it had more action. but the first is definitely better.
9/10 Wow. That was absolutely superb.
50/50 8.5/10 It was a pretty good film. The balance between comedy and seriousness really made the film come together. One manly tear was shed during the movie. But then again, I'm a sucker for really sad films.
The Strangers - 6/10... Started off creepy enough but descended into tedium.
9/10 Wow. That was absolutely superb.
Check out Fitzcarraldo by the same director and featuring the same lead actor, Klaus Kinski. It's about a guy who drags a 400 ton boat through the jungle and in the making of the movie they actually dragged a 400 ton boat through the jungle!
soon.. I need to watch Koyaanisqatsi too
This sums the movie up for you No spoilers.

Aguirre and the Nosferatu remake are the only Herzog/Kinski collaborations I've seen thus far and I loved both, so there's no reason to believe their other work will disappoint.
the matrix reloaded 8/10 my favorite out of the two sequels, as a movie it's pretty fuckin epic, even more epic than the first (but not better) there were also a lot of little things that bugged me, mostly during the freeway scene. for one a ump firing either .45 or .40 cartridges (i'm guessing the twin used the .40 because of the size of the magazine, the bullets themselves are smaller so you could have them in a staggered formation inside of the mag, making for a larger capacity for bullets and making the mag itself wider than it would be than if it was chambered for .45) would pierce through any part of the car except the engine block. in so many words i'm saying that everyone in the caddy trinity was driving would have died, especially the key maker considering the grouping of bulletholes you can see collected around the back right of the car. also when morpheus [sp]blows up the twin's car[/sp] with the auto glock, that's fucking impossible without tracer rounds, which he obviously wasn't using in his weapon. and don't get me started on the giant fucking explosion it caused (mainly because i understand it's for theatrics, most of this shit is but it still bothers me that film makers still don't get you need tracer rounds to ignite gasoline and the only part of a car that's bulletproof in any way is the engine block)
Superbad - 8/10 Its definitely one of the funniest film's of its year. It stayed funny for the entire film and it had a great cast. Also it partially related to me because they we're in the same year as me and going to college (but for me its university). Also its one of those comedy films that you could watch over and over. Well, for me it is anyway.
it's sad it's become just as cliched as napoleon dynamite, but in a twisted and detestful way (mainly most of those who like it weren't the socially awkward type like the main characters, and are dumb as rocks)
The Strangers - 6/10... Started off creepy enough but descended into tedium.
such a terrible film. all the "scares" consisted of shifting the focus to the background to reveal someone standing there. quite predictable. the only part that made me jump was the loud noise of a shower curtain being pulled aside
Munich 8.8/10 Spielberg's only truly great movie in the 2000s... it's not as good as Schindler's List but he knows how to do it. Tree of Life 9/10 Great experience... the plot isn't deep, it's only about you witnessing what life is (or can be...) well it's relateable to all people. Visually it is breathtaking and really gives you this "out of body" experience. Very psychedelic. Sean Penn doesn't do much, but he's awesome as always. The actual "plot" with the family is filled with heart. A contender for best movie of the year.
