LOTR is lifeless. It's droning. It's people walking and cold emotionless battle scenes.
I don't even like Star Wars that much but it's got heart, it's got great characters, it has unique and interesting stories and they are told well. LOTR has none of this. All the characters are so cold and boring, it's so bleak and just one of the most bland movies I've ever seen.
But few people online agree with me because it's got elves and swords and fighting and wizards and shit and everyone gets boners over that stuff no matter how shitty it is, just like the Elder Scrolls games (which there is absolutely no denying are incredibly poorly made, but everyone fuckin loves them anyway it's beyond me).
I agree with you. In fact, I think I hate it more than you do.

I agree with you most of the time but I have never disagreed more than this moment.
For once, I actually agree with Rusty.

I find myself agreeing with Rusty a lot of the time, this is one of them.
LOTR 2 and Harry Potter 3 or 4 put me to sleep several times, that's how fucking boring they are.
Seems more like you guys have a case of "I don't like fantasy". Sure, you might not like the film but they are by no means bad. For example, I thought Blade Runner was fucking boring but it's a well made film.
Don't get me wrong, the LOTR movies are very well made, but yeah I fucking hate fantasy.
More overdone then zombies.

Really? In this day and age I'd say fantasy films in the same vein as LOTR are extremely underdone.
All we get these days are terrible Harry Potter clones or completely half-assed book adaptations.
The Lord of the Rings was an amazing achievement in cinema.
In what though? Being superficially 'epic' because it had cool music and big battle scenes?

Well I like fantasy and you just said that Blade Runner was boring and you love a movie about walking and throwing a ring so basically you've invalidated everything you will ever say.

They're not well made though, they have the appearance of being well made but fail on a lot of points such as story, characters, emotion, and a bunch of other shit. It's just very cinematic and presented in a climactic way. It's just not a good movie. Peter Jackson should go back to ultraviolent b-movies.
your taste in movies is a joke
lotr is incredible
beautifully executed, an amazing story and its basically some the best movies out there.
Yeah except that it's not though, what's amazing about the story? I think it's an insult to every other good film to call LOTR some of the best movies out there. The only thing it has going for it is good execution of terrible elements.
and dont even mention the soundtrack
[editline]6th November 2011[/editline]
how can you even say that aaa
Because it's completely and utterly true, try looking past 'the epicness!!! lol xd'
They films fail to capture me every time because they are utterly mundane with very poor character writing and plot.
Paranormal Activity 3:
5/10, could've been better
I believe that the characters were fun (excluding the Ents, they were...boring.), the set designs were beautiful, the music was perfect, the battle scenes are among the greatest ever put on film and even though Fellowship of the Ring was slower paced than the rest, it kind of reminds me of The Godfather in a way. The first film was set-up to one of the greatest sequels of all time.
This is the thing I'm saying, it is presented well, but the content is bad. You can have the most beautiful set designs in the world and the greatest soundtrack, it still won't help add emotion to emotionless acting and it won't help bring life to a mundane plot (it also won't help make the battle scenes any more interesting, because I found the action in the film to be quite bad, just really messy and not well crafted at all)
Beg your pardon?
Whichever film depicted them teleporting to another place after some sort of competition and a boy is shot to death by Amon Goeth.

I like fantasy, and I used to really be into it when I was younger, but I can't stand LOTR.

I can't remember a single character's name aside from Mr. Frodo, Gandalf, Sam, and Sauron.

What the fuck is an Ent?
Obviously you weren't paying attention at all. No wonder you didn't like them.
also, one of these.
I become engrossed in a film when I watch it, unless of course it is terribly boring, so it's not for lack of trying.
I don't believe the acting was stale at all, save Gandalf...and he wasn't even that bad.
Like I said, it's probably just not your thing. I'm not a fan of fantasy either, but damn, I enjoy watching these.
You shitting me? Ian McKellen was the perfect casting choice for LOTR.

J. R. Tolkien always wanted Christopher Lee to play him.
J. R. Tolkien always wanted Christopher Lee to play him.
Yeah I know, but Lee is so perfect as the villain (watch some Hammer films with him and Peter Cushing), I couldn't see him doing Gandalf, he was too perfect as Saruman.
Summer Wars
7.5/10
Loved the animation and story. There were a few times where it felt a bit slow but overall a solid movie.
The Dark Knight - 9.5 / 10
Amazing movie, but loses half a point for lacking the same atmosphere as Batman Begins.
This world needs more Stephen Kind movies.
1408, The mist, The green mile and many more were all amazing.
most of his books are being turned into short stories or TV series. They deserve so much more.
Green Mile wasn't that great.

Criticizing LOTR for being bleak is like criticizing harry potter for being too magical.
Kill me for saying, but I couldn't get into the books at all. I loved the movies, though.
I like the movies better than the books because they pare down on a lot of the fluff
The only fantasy films I can think of that truly sucked me in.
There's your problem. Regardless if it's Lord of The Rings or whatever.
You shitting me? Ian McKellen was the perfect casting choice for LOTR.
The part of Gandalf was offered to Sean Connery, who turned it down because he didn't understand the story.
Watched Woody Allen's Manhattan.
I prefer it to Annie Hall. Really great. The camera techniques and the heart was pretty gripping.

Super 8
9/10
The Abyss - 9/10
Solidified my Cameron Hard-on, but I feel the movie could have been way better if there wasn't the Sea aliens or whatever. I grew attached to the characters and all but the ending just felt like, oh, we've got bud in an impossible situation but it'd be totally sad if he died, so lets throw some aliens at the situation so it's a happy ending. I would have rathered he died so the others could live.

The Mist 7/10
..that god damn ending
The Mask - 7/10
Managed to enjoy most of it. Horribly obnoxious a lot of the time though. Not that I should be marking down a children's movie for being childish.
Jim Carrey is my favourite person though and he makes everything great.

How can you not have watched that as a kid. True classic. :v:
