No. That was one of best fucking endings of the decade because it left it up to the viewer what Cobb's fate was. I personally think he [sp] was in limbo at the end [/sp]
[sp]I thought that it was that his totem was his ring since in his dreams he was still married to maud (I hope that's her name) and if you watch the movie again you'll see that in the dream parts he has a ring and in reality he doesn't. Using that theory if you look at the last scene he has no ring meaning that it's reality[/sp]

I think people read into what Leonardo Di Caprio is wearing far too much.
I watched this with my father years ago, it's just as brilliant as it is now. 11/10
:v:
But the truth was pretty much proved [sp]He only wears a ring in reality and he was wearing a ring at the end[/sp]
wrong way round
Are there any movies in theaters now that are watchable? Was thinking of seeing Immortals & Real Steel, though I know I won't propably enjoy them, but just to kill time.
Wuthering heights is okay, and if you have Tyrannosaur in cinema anywhere near you that's amazing, although it's depressing as ffuuuuck
Yeah but the ring isn't used once in dialogue or onscreen as a plot at all. [editline]3rd December 2011[/editline]
Martin Scorsese's "Hugo".
I doubt Martin Scorcese's "Hugo" will be as good as Martin Scorsese's "The Departed". Then again as someone noticed that he's put a classic into every decade since the 70s. Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" may just be that classic for the decade.
Martin Scorsese's "Hugo".
Only thing even watchable now. Nearly got forced into twilight. Why are movies this time all so bad
Looking at my cinema listings, it depresses me at the amount of crap in there. I want to see Moneyball but it's only being shown about 4 times a week. It's pathetic, I propose that some cinemas should screen classics.

I was forced into Mar mar duke, old dogs and valentine's day. I wished I had killed myself. And valentine's day is the worst fucking movie ever, hands down, even fucking The room is better. In fact, few couples walked out because it was pure shit. And New Year's Eve will be shit as well

Nolan isn't one to give away stuff like that. Even if it's not in the script, it's very present in the film, and very clearly purposeful. [editline]4th December 2011[/editline] Where in the script are you gonna write *Cobb is wearing his ring* in each scene? That would be retarded. Obviously he had intended for it to be a part of the movie, he doesn't need to write that in the script since nobody says it and he has complete control over it during the filming.

Did people notice it straight away or what?
Anyone considering watching fucking New Year's Eve will be hunted down by me
Dude, I've seen it about 5 times and have never noticed a ring being "waved about" obviously. Did people notice it straight away or what?
It's not meant to be obvious! How are you not getting that? It's a subtle thing, something for repeat viewers to notice, a reward for being attentive.
here we go:
Yeah but the right side is him going out to town, obviously he would wear his ring in public to show he is married. Where as on the left he could be more relaxed and casual, as he clearly is and needs a rest from the ring. Inconclusive.
I tell you if I made films I'd have heaps of subtle shit like that in it, stuff you don't notice at first. It makes films very rewarding to watch more than once and gives them a greater depth
Yeah but the right side is him going out to town, obviously he would wear his ring in public to show he is married.
gives them a greater depth
It really doesn't. Character gives depth, not a ring on a finger that is visible in only 3 scenes. [editline]3rd December 2011[/editline]
2 out of the 4 pictures on the right are him in his private residence / hotel
Two of them he's wearing a suit, not casual. One is with his wife, one's at a cafe with a woman.
It really doesn't. Character gives depth, not a ring on a finger that is visible in only 3 scenes.
the ring gave the movie incredible depth, suddenly the entire thing makes sense, you can now tell when he's in a dream and when he's not, that was the intended use of the ring, it was actually visible in every scene, I just didn't sceenshot them all.
It really doesn't. Character gives depth, not a ring on a finger that is visible in only 3 scenes. [editline]3rd December 2011[/editline] Two of them he's wearing a suit, not casual. One is with his wife, one's at a cafe with a woman.
How does that not give it depth? There's more to films than characters, there's the whole world they're set in, it gives the whole film universe and background more depth. Gosh you're being pretty thick right now you know that?
He's just as formal in every shot.
Gosh you're being pretty thick right now you know that?
So I'm thick for not looking at his ring finger for the entire movie. Good job.
So I'm thick for not looking at his ring finger for the entire movie. Good job.
OH MY GOD it's subtle you're not supposed to notice it the first time. That's what makes it so awesome.
OH MY GOD it's subtle you're not supposed to notice it the first time. That's what makes it so awesome.
It's a conclusion that you've been convinced by after reading about it, not seeing it.
yeah it had to be pointed out, so? that doesn't change the fact that it's correct. Why would the director only have a ring in the dreams and not in reality, it seems way to deliberate to be some accident
yeah it had to be pointed out, so?
Thanks for clearing that up. I only go by what I experience and what the director has to say, if he ever does a commentary.
This is what I love about the ending to Inception. Since it leaves it open to the viewer, it actually makes people think and if you're talking with a huge fan of the movie, you could be talking for hours as to how this movie ended. I've never seen so much discussion over a recent film's ending in...years.
People want to look for answers, I want it to be presented to me when I watch it. It's all good when we're talking about symbolism about something someone says or how they act, but the discussion that went with Inception was a humungous about of "scanning every pixel for clues".
Theres some great films out there if you dig for them. Indie cinema has been throwing some wonderful stuff out over the last few years. Heres another recommendation> 'Exit through the gift shop' A film docu about street art like Banksy which starts with a guy filming these people. Slowly the focus of the docu becomes this oddball guy behind the camera who tracks down Banksy and eventually tries his hand at art himself. The film asks some interesting questions about art and those who claim to follow it. You don't have to be an art lover to enjoy this and the ending leaves you wondering who the joke is actually on. Go check it out, 7/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1587707/ .
The Warrior's Way -> 9 - very nice
