Thinking of watching the LOTR trilogy because it's my last week of winter break. Should I try to watch all 12-13hrs of it at once or split it into three days?
Theatrical release trilogy marathon is doable.
I already have the extended blurays. I might try it today.
Go for it.
Mystic River 7/10 nice murder mistery. That's about it.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - 8/10 Very good action movie, but very predictable.
Apocalypse Now 9/10 Ending left something to be desired if you ask me.
I think I'm gonna start watching the Star Wars movies now. I've seen one or two of them as a child, but I don't think I saw the full movies or even payed attention to the story. I heard that some of them are actually pretty bad, is that true?
Prequels are quite bad.
Mystic River 9/10 I rarely give movies this high ratings nowadays. But I've got to say, Mystic River is definitely one of the better movies I've seen so far. The story telling and progression in this movie is amazing. Puts you on the edge throughout the entire movie. And the actors could not have performed better. Clint Eastwood's directing really shines in this movie. [sp]Near the end where Jean speaks to Jimmy on the sidewalk, and you saw Jimmy's face expression, holy hell that got to me man[/sp] [editline]30th December 2011[/editline] If you haven't seen it, and like murder stories. Watch this one ASAP, it's basically like reading a good book.
Added to my rental list.
The Truman Show - 8/10 First time watching it, really enjoyed it. One thing that irked me was the dome itself though. It was ridiculously large. Yes, suspension of disbelief and all but it could have been much smaller and served the same purpose.
Apocalypse Now 9/10 Ending left something to be desired if you ask me.
was it the theatrical or redux? if you haven't seen the redux, go now.
Apocalypse Now 9/10 Ending left something to be desired if you ask me.
Blasphemy.
The tree of life 9/10 the acting, the mood and especially the atmosphere was just perfectly executed had great but weird parts
The tree of life 9/10 the acting, the mood and especially the atmosphere was just perfectly executed had great but weird parts
Went to go see it in some small, unknown movie theater because it wasn't showing anywhere else. I'd give it a 6/10.
The Tree of Life has amazing cinematography, the only problem is that the movie is pointless.
I've revised my rating to a 6/10 too. After I got over how good it looked it became a less than great movie
Attack the Block - 8/10 pretty entertaining. edit: Perfect Sense - Solid 10/10 Holy shit. Go see it.
Apocalypse Now 9/10 Ending left something to be desired if you ask me.
The original credits had the [sp]base destroyed and in flames from the air strike, it's beautiful. but the director didn't want that to be percieved so he removed it[/sp] [editline]30th December 2011[/editline]
The Tree of Life has amazing cinematography, the only problem is that the movie is pointless.
It's more a symbolic thing.
Wall-E 9/10
3 Idiots (Indian) 10/10 Story, acting, effects, everything is done right. And for a 4 hour movie too.
Sherlock Holmes 1: 8.5/10 Old London looked gorgeous and I was pleasantly surprised when Sherlock explained how that dark magic guy's magic worked.
Amen 2002 7/10 Story of an unwilling medical scentist who works on the development of Zyklon b for the SS. He wants to get word to the outside world. Performances are excellent and the story is true with additional characters for the film. The counterfeiters 2007 7/10 Another true story from Nazi Germany about a Jewish currency counterfeiter who ends up working on a project to keep himself and others alive. The film version of the real operation called Operation Bernhard. Great performances again and also won the foreign lang Oscar. On the subject of the Redux version of Apocalypse Now I was lucky enough to catch a local rerun of that at the cinema some time ago but wasn't so lucky to feel the disappointment with the new scenes. I felt the new scenes humanised the characters who were inhuman in the original version. The plantation scene was totally out of place where Willard gets his sex on with the woman there. Theres a scene also with Brando where he seems to be almost explaining himself too much. Theres been a few old films with additional footage in them and too often its clear why the cuts were left out. Newer films with additional footage I feel are just ways of selling box sets and blu rays.
Got around to watching the rest of Escape from New York, 7.5/10 Was also watching The Terminator until my internet decided to be a dick and disconnect me from XBL, 8.5/10

I don't get the Brando thing though, there was only one scene where he's trapped in a cave and all the kids stare at him. That's quite a good scene.

The scene gave a bit too much away and broke down the mystery for me. I also remember a scene where Willard was laughing, I think it was around the Kilgore scenes and it just seemed totally out of character considering he was dark and stormy throughout. The Redux wasn't total shit but it definitely put a new spin on the charaters.
Willard didn't laugh in the entire movie. Are you sure you weren't watching a bootleg of sort? [editline]30th December 2011[/editline] or maybe the documentary, which is actually good.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo- 8/10 Had some pretty notable flaws, but was overall a very good film. I disliked how she followed up with her parole officer in the elevator, it seemed to be an unnecessary addition that dulled the point of the payback scene. Also, she talked waaay too damn much in the payback scene, and a lot of the effect could have been enhanced with less dialogue. and while I didn't necessarily dislike any of it, the sequences after the film's climax just seemed hastily tacked on. Even if they were necessary to resolve a major plot point, I feel like finches could have handled it better Still well worth a watch
I'll watch the Swedish version first. Rusty may hate that one, but it's only because he hates Sweden.
Return of the Jedi 11/10 yeah it was pretty cool. i dunno what's with all the little furry things i dunno what they're called. like they were cute for one scene but then they become the focus of the whole movie. i fucking hate those things they're stupid. there's this scene at the beginning in like what slug dude and there's like guys singing a stupid song and it's obvious CGI and it looks stupid and it shouldn't be in the movie cuz it's stupid. these star wars movies have pretty god special effects but i don't see why we have to re-make them.
