oh the remake. it doesn't even have anything to do with the original.
...Remake? Red's based off of a comic book from 2003.
Letters from Iwo Jima 9/10 A good mix of action and story. And great Cinematography too!
The Source Code 10/10 I hardly ever like movies as much as I would like to, giving what (most people would give a 10/10) a 8-9/10, but this movie just made me speechless I just felt every part of it was perfect and it had an outstanding ending [sp]Which I didn't know whether to be happy or sad [/sp]. I suggest that if you haven't seen this movie, drop what you are doing right now and go see it. I think this is my new favorite movie.
can anyone suggest me a movie to watch tonight? something simple, relaxing and interesting at the same time, like 12 Angry Men or Memento
Babel. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline] it's not what I'd call relaxing though. In fact it's very much a shock to the system with all the culture changes.
Gonna watch Inception in about 3 hours  I had a disk but it didn't have my lang subtitles, so i didn't even bother watching it.
The Button, first hour was good then the last 50 minutes ruined it 5/10 for being half good and half bleh
Gonna watch Inception in about 3 hours  I had a disk but it didn't have my lang subtitles, so i didn't even bother watching it.
Oh come on, I watch movies without subs all the time.
Unless you're completely deaf, you need to watch a movie without the script helping you. More immersive that way.
Toy story 2 I'd give it a 8/10, But god, for a kids movie theirs are some pretty deep stuff in it, like why doesn't woody remember anything about his past? He's obviously surprised when he sees all the woody merchandise but when he sees the record player, he says "I haven't seen one of this in ages!" Meaning he does remember some of his past, But a bit earlier he looks at an old magazine on the bottom left corner theirs a date, 1947, Which fits because the type of show woody's round-up was, was popular in the 40's to the 50's, And in Jessy's back ground story, She sees her owner switch out all of her old cowgirl stuff for make-up and very 60's posters, Which is around the same time woody's round-up was canceled, So all in all toy story 2 raise some big questions.
Unless you're completely deaf, you need to watch a movie without the script helping you. Most likely because I've grown up with subtitled movies, since not very many movies have Finnish dubs. Subs and english voice acting are also the 2 main reasons why I learned English so well.
Well obviously I'm disregarding foreign language movies, that's a different story. I haven't thought too much about the experience from those. I've seen many but the language gives certain vibes to a performance unlike English. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline]
Subs and english voice acting are also the 2 main reasons why I learned English so well.
That's pretty much the best way to learn English.
Saw T2, 9/10. Great special effects and amazing and impressive CGI. The story was a bit questionable at times. And sometimes just makes no sense. But it's still a great film which I enjoyed a lot. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline]
[editline]31st December 2011[/editline] That's pretty much the best way to learn English.
I was born speaking Spanish, and thanks to some movies and TV shows, I was able to grasp small parts of English, then school took over from there.
I've been reading subtitles since I was very young, and I think this goes for most of the Nordic countries. So subtitles are in no way a distracting thing for me. I hear so many native english speakers complain about subtitles being distracting, but really, if they'd just started reading more it would be no problem. Probably takes me around 1-2 seconds to read two lines of text when it comes to movies.
Oh come on, I watch movies without subs all the time.
In his defense, he's from Vietnam. I recon learning English is way harder there than here
In his defense, he's from Vietnam. I recon learning English is way harder there than here
Well he's doing pretty well on Facepunch.
Captain America 8/10 nice classic style hero vs villian got cheesy at some times but was ok overall
I kinda feel that in having subtitles on you pay a little too much attention to reading the subtitles instead of paying attention to the actual film, and it kinda takes away some of the immersion as akz said.
Maybe for people who haven't grown up with subtitles.
Nothing wrong with rewatching a movie with subtitles though. Sometimes you take in more that way. In the past I mentioned that "real life has no subs".

I can't stand subtitles for English parts. It seems like a good idea because then you can hear quiet dialogue but I just end up focusing on them instead of the movie itself, even if I can hear it perfectly
but you're american and you probably haven't watched enough movies with subtitles
Bad Santa 9.8 out of 10 Too much cursing, but was hilarious. :v:
I use subtitles all the time since I'm pretty close to being deaf and they've never ruined movies for me.
I can't stand subtitles for English parts. I can see a movie without subs, but if i could choose i would watch it with. Also because subs attempt to translate slang and jokes you otherwise wouldn't understand. Once your english becomes good you start reading subs when you need them instead of all the time.
but you're american and you probably haven't watched enough movies with subtitles
I don't mind them at all for foreign movies though. I guess it's because I'm forced to so I just accept it.
I use subtitles because 1. use to it 2. When the character is whispering or some shit or yelling, it helps 3. If some lines are in some language (some english movie with russian character) it helps 4. And I like the idea of adding actions into subtitles.
but you're american and you probably haven't watched enough movies with subtitles
Uhh?
Uhh?
What? Almost all of the big releases are either American or English, you guys haven't watched as many movies with subtitles as we, foreigners, have. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline] unless you have a thing for foreign movies
I thought you meant that Americans are too lazy to read.
