One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 10/10 Great film, it's heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I like how much McMurphy inspires a crew that seemed so distraught and hostile, and how he turns them into great friends. [sp]Even though it is a movie, I felt so bad for Billy. And it was a terrible surprise with what happened to McMurphy and how Chief's solution would be best. It seemed like all the shit hit the fan within the last twenty minutes.[/sp] Anyone who hasn't seen it, probably should. It's a great film. also, Ratched is a cunt.
Unkown Soldier 9.5/10 I wish I could give it full score, but nothing is perfect. This is a very old b&w movie about the winter War raging between the former Soviet Russia and Finland. Tells the tale of a certain company ordered to do hard if not impossible tasks and yet managing to plow through it with minor losses. It's propaganda, yes. It's old, yes. It had a low budget, true. Yet that's part of how it's so awesome. I don't know, it ignites a small flame of patriotism, but it also roused this odd pride of just being human. I mean, it showed some grim aspects like war's cruelty and lack of mercy on the front lines, leaving injured soldiers to die on flat no-man's-land, but it also displayed the good sides like mourning the dead, valour and unity in hard times. Those things just made me glad to watch the company progress through each minute and keep on going. I got immersed in it and drifted off topic, but tl;dr nice movie, part nostalgia, part patriotism and propaganda, part just good directing.
I didn't really like das boot seemed too drawn out, most of the action in the movie seems to be the submarine getting destroyed as they try to hide out from the battleship as it passes overhead and drops the depth charges then the sub dives deeper, cue tense moment as it is overhead then it bombs the shit out of them again, and thus the cycle continues [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] I did however watch some cool documentaries recently Space Shuttle: A Horizon Guide 9/10, superb documentary that kept me interested throughout it and I learnt a great deal about how NASA dealt with America at the time/the space raceeee DMT: The Spirit Molecule Was drunk and high as I watched this, so I'm not going to give it a final rating. It was pretty awesome, shed a lot of light on the chemical itself (the most powerful psychedelic compound ever found), and the reports and studies by doctors/people with PHDs and stuff on the compound made it really factual. Was enough to convince me that I need to try this chemical. Also rooted the words "Set and setting are everything, even more important than the drug itself" in my mind. [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] what was strange was how all the people who used it said along the lines of the same thing, that they experienced being part of a divine entity of consciousness, a higher being, and a sense of separation and isolation when they came down that lasted well into their sober lives To experience a higher plane of existence and being, well that really is something I need to try :v:
X-Men: First Class - 8/10 Breathed fresh, new life into the X-Men film series after the travesty that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Troy - 8/10 Started watching this shit at 2am. Didn't realize it was a 3hr movie.
Fargo 10/10 Yeah? Yeah.
Watched Anchorman today, I can't believe I never got to watch that movie before! Gonna give it a 8.5/10.

Deeply dissapointed.
8/10 it was surprisingly good, if only for it's absurdness.
Hey guys, i do not know where to ask my question so here it is : is 'Falling Skies' any good. (TV show)
Fargo 10/10 Yeah? Yeah.
It's spelled "Yah"
13 Assassins 10/10 This is probably the best samurai movie I've seen in a long time. It's on netflixs so if your looking for an amazing movie this is the one. The last 40 minutes or so is so fucking cool.

Cowboys and Aliens was bad. Troll Hunter was really good. Ending felt fairly unsatisfying, but only because the rest of the movie was so good that I wanted to see a lot more of it.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller 9/10 This melancholy western follows the two titular characters as they open a brothel in a small town and the problems that arise when a company tries to buy it. This is a very sad movie but not in the same way Schindler's List or one of Pixar's dramatic moments is sad. In the town it's always raining or snowing and the only music on the soundtrack is Leonard Cohen. Near the end of the movie there is a gun-fight but the deaths are abrupt and the ending isn't a very hopeful one. Those who find greatness is more subtler moments will find a lot in this movie.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller Near the end of the movie there is a gun-fight but the deaths are abrupt and the ending isn't a very hopeful one.
well... thanks for that.. I'll watch it anyway. :) [editline]8th August 2011[/editline] will watch Rashomon tonight though.
I must also mention the way the writer/directer Robert Altman find absolutely the right note in dialogue. He loves to break the rule that in movies only one person speaks at a time and it really does feel very natural.

You know it's supposed to be an homage to old grindhouse exploitation films, right?
Wow you can just gtfo, Battle LA gets a higher rating than Hobo? What about it was terrible? You know it's supposed to be an homage to old grindhouse exploitation films, right?
Yeah, I rated B:LA a little higher than HWAS because, even though it's supposed to be a homage to grindhouse films, and I was kinda expecting to like it right off the bat (don't get me wrong, I loved "Machete", "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof"), it tries too hard to be likeable IMO. I'm ok with gratuituous violence and dark humor in movies, I totally am, but I found myself more than one time waiting for the damn movie to end. Maybe I should give it another watch and see if it changes my mind. In the meantime, I'll check out The Disco Exorcist whenever I can... looks funny as hell. [editline]8th August 2011[/editline] Also, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny -- 8/10 I can't believe I've never got 'round to watching it. Pretty funny movie!

Lord of the Rings Extended editions. Yes, all 3 in a row without a pause. 10/10 naturally. Troy: 7/10. Was good except that Brad Pitt was pathetic.
Captain America: The First Avenger 8/10 I love superhero movies and I love World War 2 stuff. It was an amazingly awesome combo.

I'd give them all a 9.5/10, easily.
Half Nelson - Ryan Gosling's best work, second to The United States of Leland. Crack/coke addicted teacher is saved from his habit by an inner city student with connections to his dealer. 10/10 The Believer - Another Ryan Gosling film; a Jewish Nazi attends a camp designed to train in killing Jews and has second thoughts about his origins. 7/10 All Good Things - ANOTHER Ryan Gosling film; murder mystery about the very strange son of a rich businessman and his connections to multiple murders. 6/10 Seriously, Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors of our time!
Black Hawk Down - Absolutely immense film 9/10
Incendies: 9/10. Incredibly powerful film, and pretty sad too. Fellini loved doing that too, and it's just fun to watch I think.
