X-Plane is amazing when it comes to developer tools, I tried make a custom airport for FSX once and it was a total nightmare, XP on the other hand I had it done in a few days, the community contribute a lot of great airports as well which get included in the base game, here is one I made a while back after only doing it for a few weeks: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/33693-rochester-egto/ Planes on the other hand are a little lacking but there are still some great ones like the flightfactor 767, JARDesign A330, etc. The physics is what makes me no longer play FSX though, it feels so much more realistic in XP.
One thing FSX had over X-Plane was the default scenery for some cities. For example Toronto, Ontario, by default in FSX, has the Roger Centre, the CN-Tower and several over buildings. While X-Plane has none of those, just generic buildings. You need to buy or find scenery that adds them. X-Plane 11 doesn't even have any New York landmarks last I checked.
I don't know if it's true with xp11 but the autogen in 10 was very us biased

Pretty cool that they went out of their way to model and add something that pretty much nobody would ever see. I'd say X-plane, even in lieu of major landmarks and such, is still better with scenery. It looks better from both far away and up close and handles higher density with better performance compared to FSX, where 2d trees somehow bring your sim to its knees at 30 FPS.
I just want a good, modern IL-2 successor with mod support. There hasn't been a flight sim to hold my attention since that game came out but it's so dated now. Rise of Flight has a great engine and seemed high potential but the devs either don't know or don't care what they're sitting on with it. It could be so much more than it is.
Well I agree that the terrain in X-Plane looks better, I never disputed that, I was talking specifically about real buildings and land marks. No Hoover Dam, just the road and a lot of power lines. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ozMYAZt.png[/t]

I was using the map to move my plane there quickly :v:
I feel like you have bigger issues in that picture :ass:
When I was 11 or 12 I would play shitloads of X-Plane 8 and this was how I spent most of my time in it; making emergencies to try and survive.

But IIRC it was a bootleg copy my aunt bought in Russia, so it may have been a mod they put on the disc. [editline]17th May 2017[/editline] Flight Sim World is certainly pretty, but this screenshot is from the Steam Store, so obviously it is staged. http://store.steampowered.com/app/389280/Flight_Sim_World/ It is out on early access. Cheaper then I thought it would be. Still too much for a EA.
People able to import mods from FSX with some editing and errors. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/alabeo-c441-model-in-fsw.1011/

Aside from a lack of modding (something that Oleg fought tooth and nail to prevent), those games are shaping up to be decent successors to classic IL-2.
