Do you see the end to lots of movies?
That seems like it would ruin the movie viewing experience a great deal.
Yeah, i don't watch a lot of movies but i could tell you how just about every movie that has been in theatres for the past two years ends.
It's a bitch because sometimes it's a movie i really want to see and it gets spoiled.
Well, I'm back from a 10:50PM viewing of Cars 2.
While Pixar's production chops are second to none (incredible scene showing all of London at one point) this is the flattest story I've seen from them, and easily the most jaded I've ever felt leaving a Pixar movie.
This spy movie starts out showing us that it fully INTENDS to be a spy movie. Now, Pixar has never been shy about character death when it needs it (see, The Incredibles) but this movie really puts the screws to the notion. Characters are executed, one is (off-screen) compacted into a cube, several are blown up, and you even see their parts afterward. I know it's not gory to see cars explode, but when you consider they're characters, it's different.
Then we get to our story, where we lose the bland Lightning McQueen as our lead, only to get the even less interesting or complex Mater for the role.
Pixar isn't stupid of course. They try their best to make it believable with him, but the wacky side-character is still the wacky side-character. Just as making Jack Sparrow the lead in Pirates 4 didn't work, this doesn't work either. Especially when Mater somehow bags the cute British spy-girl in the end, which somehow strains my suspension of disbelief MORE than the notion that this world of vehicles evolved naturally.
The spy-plot, of course, is some topical statement against big oil, with the antagonists being an organization of dud-cars who want to see alternative fuels brought down so they can make money and become respected. Why these jalopies can't be retrofitted with better parts is anyone's guess, especially when they show OTHER cars comfortably switching to electric. It fits for a movie about cars, but it still feels a little lazy for Pixar.
This movie is also quite the advertising whore. I'm betting you saw those "Statefarm" commercials, right? Well guess what; there's one in the movie too.
I'm not kidding; Mater at one point actually sings, "Like a good neighbor, Mater is there!" Maybe if it weren't for the pre-existing ads, this would've been an unfunny pop-culture reference, but given the ads DO exist, it sounds really bad.
But it all really falls apart in the ending. I never felt like I cared for anyone here, and the dangers never felt real, regardless of how often they showed themselves. The leader of the evil organization is a secret, but the big "whodunnit" reveal, on top of the motives, is disappointing and confusing. I'm STILL scratching my head over the details blasted over my head. It's not a good sign when I leave a Pixar movie, not contented, emotional or happy, but jaded and confused.
I went to this movie with a friend with benefits, and we sat in a huge theater with almost nobody in it until some family with their kids took them to see Cars 2 in the dead of night on a Sunday...
Sitting in the back, at the top, which has a nice carpeted space behind the seats, I guarantee that if not for that irresponsible family, we would've grabbed some napkins from a condiments stand, got behind those seats and had kinky, public sex in that theater, and would've had ONE great fond memory of the experience.
As it stands, amongst the fine makes and models of Pixar, Cars 2 is the first true lemon. And after two years of nothing but sequels, I look forward only to next year, when Pixar finally releases a new, original movie, in "Brave".
For some reason I never saw it until today but my god ratatouille is an amazing film
It made me fucking hungry to watch. Though I do agree, it is a great film. Probably number 4 on my top 5 Pixar films.
The only reason I'd see Cars 2 is to see the Toy Story short in front of it.
I enjoyed the original Cars, granted it wasn't up there with the likes of Toy Story and UP, but it was still enjoyable to watch. The whole Spy act in #2 seems a bit strange to me.
I'm just gonna wait for the Blu-Ray for this one.
Am I the only one who actually liked the first cars?
i liked it!
Tom Hanks says TS4 is in the works.

God damn it TS3 was the perfect fucking ending for the series just leave it the fuck alone
Brave looks... interesting. I wonder if it will be a more serious film or not
God damn it TS3 was the perfect fucking ending for the series just leave it the fuck alone
Yeah if they made a fourth it would pretty much be the same thing again but with Bonnie instead of Andy.

Tom hanks is probably sarcastic
Brave looks serious, but I bet you anything that horse will be comic relief.
Brave looks serious, but I bet you anything that horse will be comic relief.
Actually that link I posted earlier specifically says the three lords will serve as the comic relief :v:
I don't really like comic relief characters, I like it to be natural.

a great example it Mater in Cars, just fucking annoying

The Mater-Hosen joke in one of the trailers was almost enough for me to not see that movie.
just got wall-e on blu-ray and its amazing.

Definitely a bad idea if it's true, TS3 ended the trilogy perfectly and there is no need for more of them.
They need some more original ideas.
Toy Story 3 was amazing.
But Cars 2? Monsters Inc prequel? Toy Story 4?
Thank god Brave is coming out or I would have thought they were completely loosing it.
Apparently they came up with the idea for Toy Story, Monsters Inc, A Bugs Life and Wall.e during a lunch at some restaurant. Have another fucking one of those lunches!

What are the odds they will make porn of this before the movie even comes out?

rule 34 effect works almost instantly.
Why Cars 2? Why not The Incredibles 2? I haven't seen Cars 2, so I can't share what I think about it but I know The Incredibles should of had a squeal instead of Cars. They did make one but as a game only
Does anyone else think that the reason cars is worse than all the rest of the pixar movies is because it was solely made to sell merchandise? I've seen blankets, curtains, doormats, plates, cups, pillows, EVERYTHING, and people just eat it up..

Aren't most movies made like that though?

maybe it was terrible because it was written by a mouth breathing retard
Just as making Jack Sparrow the lead in Pirates 4 didn't work
I'm sorry what, Jack Sparrow was always the lead.
Also, the Brave trailer was so bland and uninspiring, the movie looks shit to be honest.

there's a difference between "only likable character" and "protagonist"
Aren't most movies made like that though?
Yeah but cars is just extreme, they managed to put lightning mcqueen on everything possible
maybe it was terrible because it was written by a mouth breathing retard
who are you talking about
Heard cars 2 sucked, is it worth watching ?
Heard cars 2 sucked, is it worth watching ?
It's a good fun movie but don't expect a great story. It's got lots of fast actiony stuff and sacrifices being deep and shit.
I enjoyed it for what it was.
People are overreacting.
After 11 fantastic movies, one bad movie doesn't mean they are fucking destroyed and won't stop making bad movies.
The Incredibles and Toy Story were their best movies in my opinion.
