Pixar is nice and all. "ToyStory 1" and "Monsters Co" especially. But shit like "Cars" or "Ratouille" or "Brave," who even watches them if it weren't like for your 5 year old sibling or your kid.
Ratatouille was great though, 96% on both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.
Passing on Brave, cant wait for Monsters University.
Oh... Oh my fucking heart... I just got back from seeing "Brave" at the midnight showing. I can't really express what I'm feeling at the moment, but I know one thing: I am SO underwhelmed...
Curious, what's the fathers relationship with the [sp]non-mother[/sp] bear? Wasn't there supposed to be a mythical monster bear or something?
Ratatouille was great though, 96% on both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.
"Monster Co" "ToyStory" "Ratouille" Best just to ignore him. But yeah Ratatouille was great
Curious, what's the fathers relationship with the [sp]non-mother[/sp] bear? Wasn't there supposed to be a mythical monster bear or something?
Yeah, there's this big monster of a bear, and when Merida is a child, her dad fights the thing and ends up losing his leg to it, naturally swearing vengeance. So pretty much, the bear is the dad's white whale, and it has some tragic significance to what befalls Merida and her mom. I won't say what, because that WOULD be spoiler territory. The bear is legitimately scary at times. This one scene where you see it approaching in the background, just this lumbering shape in the gloom with creepily lifelike eye-shine, creates a pretty fine sense of panic.
Oh god, I am terrified that Pixar is going downhill. I haven't seen Brave yet, but from what I have heard it isn't in the same league as the other Pixar films.

I don't have high hopes for Monster's University, and from what I'm hearing about Brave, it seems like Pixar is losing it. Not that I think the studio has no talent left or that they won't ever make another masterpiece, but I think the days of assuming every movie they make being a Masterpiece may be behind them.
Brave was a pretty decent film but it didn't manage to amaze me like previous Pixar films... It was just predictable and not enough "Pixar magic" to really do it.... I am fearing the same, Pixar might be losing its touch
Brave was a pretty decent film but it didn't manage to amaze me like previous Pixar films... It was just predictable and not enough "Pixar magic" to really do it.... I'm glad Toy Story 3 came out before Pixar went downhill.
Brave was alright. [sp] The Bear on Bear fight was awesome and had my heart stop until it was all over. Hell, the Evil Bear was FUCKIN' AWESOME throughout the movie. Terrifying and his origins were interesting. [/sp]
It was very well executed, but surprisingly unsurprising for Pixar. It really lacked focus. [sp]Was the plot about being strong and independent as a young woman? No, it's about Scotland and Celtic tradition! Oh, will it be about the mother learning to learn from her daughter instead of teaching all the time? Wait, no, it's about family values. Like 50% of Disney movies. Oh, and the title makes no sense. When does anyone act particularly brave? No one was ever any more courageous than your typical Disney flick. Certainly nothing to justify the title. And there was no reason whatsoever to have the three mute little brothers except to sell merchandise based on them.[/sp] Also, there's no payoff whatsoever for [sp]the plot point of the protagonist (Miradel? Don't recall her name) being an amazing archer. It simply never comes up after the first act.[/sp] Honestly, the whole film was going great until the moment that she [sp]walked into the witch's shop[/sp]. From there, I literally could predict to the second the entire rest of the film. It was honestly like watching Pixar trying to make a Dreamworks movie. It seems like they got a third of the way through the film, then they had a much better idea for a different movie and handed it to the backup team and said "Here, finish this for us"
stop acting like a bunch of idiots, "oh my god, pixar has had 2 inadequate films IN A ROW out of 13! they're going downhill!" brave was good, not perfect like other pixar films, but you cant be afraid that pixar is turning to shit just because 10/13 of their films aren't perfect. they're still human
Seems a bit like the Valve standard to me. Given their reputation, many people expect them to make great games all the time, and if they put out something that isn't up to snuff everyone goes apeshit. This appears to be happening with Pixar's latest movies. True, Pixar didn't do such a great job with Cars 2, and I hear Brave isn't as good as their previous works, but this doesn't mean everything's ruined.
While Brave was incredibly mediocre, let's not forget about the short, La Luna. I thought it was wonderfully imaginative. Clearly Pixar hasn't lost its creative spark yet.
I'm not looking forward to monsters university, it looks like annother reboot just to sqeeze more money out of annother generation. Monsters inc. was one of my favourite films as a kid, heck it still is now but they should have left it at that, same with toy story. It seems that origional content is dissapearing, remake after remake. But the sad thing is its not just the film industry, its the game industry to. I know that I'm going off on a tangent but back to film. I know that Holly Wood is all about money and they dont tend to make films that haven't been done before as they want to stay safe, do something that they know will make money but for gods sake, dont loose your creativty. -end rant-
Wait, what's wrong with Toy Story? All three were incredible.
Wait, what's wrong with Toy Story? All three were incredible.
I have the same view of it as I do the 4th alien film, It was a really good, well directed meaningfull film but It didnt need to be there.
4th alien film

really good, well directed meaningfull film
You lost me here
Monsters University's design philosophy probably comes from the success of Toy Story 3 and the way it sent Andy off to college as all the Toy Story kids were going through similar stages of their lives Now that all the kids who loved Monsters Inc. get to the point of understanding that kind of humour, it becomes more marketable to them, and they'll probably enjoy it. They're learning from their successes what worked, and building an entire movie around it, at least judging from the trailer.
I think movies like Brave and Cars 2 are more signs that Pixar is growing rather than going downhill. It's just evidence of the fact that the extremely passionate founders aren't the only ones in charge of the movies anymore.
I heard Pixar was gonna make a film like Toy Story, but with video game characters. Anyone know if this is true? It may not be, but sounds like a neat concept anyways.

brave was um wasn't BAD just wasn't the same pixar quality I've come to expect still leagues better than Cars 2 tho Mor'du's design was really neat, I thought.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about. Brave wasn't on par with the rest of Pixar's films, yea, but in itself, not being compared, it was a great movie. I enjoyed it.
I don't really think that Pixar's losing it, I just don't think you can continually out do your last move forever.
