I believe as long as you don't just sleep around for the thrill of sex, but if you save it for people you honestly care for, then you shouldn't be classified as a slut or whore. If you really like / love someone, then I don't think there's a problem in engaging in sex.

Well, if we're getting in to why we're "supposed" to have sex, it's for procreation and for the furtherance of the human species. Marriage and longevity of the relationship is irrelevant if we're talking about why we're "supposed" to have sex. By biological logic, we should be having sex as early as we can with as many different partners as we can.
