Why does Tintin of all things need to be made ultra realistic?

I mean don't get me wrong, it looks fantastic, but why? I mean it was a cartoon. Why not just, you know, make a 2D animated movie?

I'll still see it, I'm just confused.

Not really surprised, it's a belgian comic and hughly popular in Europe. Not so overseas though.

If they kept it 2D, it would just be a rehash of the animated series I mentioned earlier with basically no changes.
