Question guys, 1998 Grand Prix passanger front door the hinges have rust on them and when opening or closing it it makes a clunky or screechy sound. It can also fight you to close it. Logically hinges that are rusty i use WD-40 but Im vary on it due to the nature of it.

White lithium grease should do the trick.

You're not alone on that bro :v: I usually throw Jig-a-Loo at it whenever I have a can at hand.
So I was able to track down a block and head for my MR2 and it was only 160. Guy said it was a fresh rebuild and ready to use. After paying for that and the shipping, the head was ok but the block was absolute toast. Today, I took the crankshaft in to a machine shop to see if I could get it fixed. The answer is yes, but it will cost the same as the full purchase of the block and head with the cam. And now I also have to get a working block to use. Thankfully my brother was able to track one down and I'll see if I can get it for 200 with shipping.
And at the same time, I have the opportunity to get away with a lot of good stuff for my car easily and cheaply.
Took the jeep in and got the drivers side heating element replaced. It was drawing to much current and tripping the relay.
So my friend found out his car is pretty much toast. Engine block is cracked and first cylinder has water leaking into it. He's looking at new cars... and he told me he found a sunfire for $2500 :gonk:
I don't even know what to say. He wants another simple cheap car, he's not a car enthusiast and just
wants something that drives. Probaly automatic.
Luckily the guy has full coverage, so I'm hoping if all goes right we can keep the car. I'm pretty good at fixing stuff so I might be able to pull something off in fixing it. It still runs and the rad isn't broke either, it's primarily body, hood, drivers headlight, and bumper damage.
One of the pics I'll post later will show a tow hook that got caught in the driver side bumper turn signal It was ripped off the dodge on impact.
Sounds like it's just sheet metal damage, so you should be able to fix it without too much issue. Just a matter of removing old panels, beating the shit out of the supports until they're straight-ish again, then affixing and aligning new panels.

Everything about what he wants is fine except the Sunfire. Seriously? Why? Never ever ever.
I'm still changing the sparkplug, that engine is harder to get out that I thought!
at least today I get help from one of my friend with a insane supra
Everything about what he wants is fine except the Sunfire. Seriously? Why? Never ever ever.
Yeah, I told him not to get a sunfire, explained why and he said noted. I told him to look at Golfs, Civics, Corollas, and maybe a 240SX if he wants to drive something more sporty, although most in the area are being bought up by teenagers who want a MEGA DORIFTU car.
Today, the roomie and I are going to go see if we can find out how to keep the wago, seems if this is to happen we need to buy it back from the insurance company, get it repaired mostly and then get it inspected for frame damage. After that, if all goes well they'll take the "trash car" mark off the title and it'll be drivable again.
Anyone got an idea on the price for a driver side headlight, turn signal, rad and overflow tank will/would/could cost? Maybe a fender too?
Rad is $55 on ebay shipped, headlights are around $50, corner lights you can find for around 20-25 bucks, overflow tank I have no idea, and the fender I can't find at any reasonable price, that'll have to be a junkyard find.
You're probably looking at around $150 tops to get it back together. You'll need a 10mm socket, ratchet, extension, and a phillips screwdriver. :) Don't forget some toughass pliers to get those rad hose squeeze clamps off.
Keep in mind you'll have to get wagon-specific corner light and fender. The overflow tank and radiator will work from any 1988-1991 Civic. Headlight will work from any Civic in your year group, clippy housing for 1988-1989, or slidey housing for 1990-1991.
seems if this is to happen we need to buy it back from the insurance company
Maybe your company operates differently, but when my friend wrecked his '95 V6 mustang he just told them to fuck off when they tried to total it. He had to replace the entire front clip and cut the bags, as they deployed, but he never had to buy his own car back, and his title never got marked 'salvage'.
get it inspected for frame damage.
Drive it, if it doesn't pull randomly the frame's fine.

Couple hundred from a junkyard if you don't mind mismatched colors. The fender will be the priciest part of all.
He'll have to have it inspected to get the title cleared up -- they mark them as salvaged cars there if they have been totaled.
Here's a pic of where it was hit, Warning: big ass pic inbound...

See the tow hook in the bumper turn signal? :v:

That's...not bad at all, actually. You shouldn't have any frame damage. It looks like the sheet metal took the impact.
The only hurdle to fixing that car is the red tape put in place by the bureaucracies.

Damn insurance companies. Main reason I don't have any sort of comprehensive coverage on my shit. It's just not worth anything, so they'll write it off for the tiniest of fender bender, and getting it back on the road is a whole clusterfuck of red tape.
Looks like it will be an easy fix, remove panels, bolt them on. Fender, hood, all that jazz, you're probably looking at 500 or so to get it near perfect without paint using all new parts.
Also, I'm awaiting my car's delivery. It'll either be 7 or 8 PM this evening or 10AM Saturday.

Changing sparkplugs right? (I'm the guy in the orange suit)
Luckily we have connections with a body shop and a family mechanic so I'm hoping it wont cost too much. Anything else I can handle fairly easy. Besides, body work is not really my forté.
Woah man, the gap on that one is a little high. Hope you're going in with new plugs!

even better, new engine
:P
By the way, your black friend looks like a fucking boss.

he is my sensëi. He did 371whp 417lb-ft on a simple bpu+ (the same build I'm doing at the moment, except I have a safc2 to tune the pig rich 550cc, it should yield me some similar power figures)
the last two days have been me in a garage with two engines and a transmission.
2 engine 1 trans anyone?
my back hurt so fucking much from working half crouch'd. Still got to transfer a shit ton of shit to the new block before it is ready to boost the fuck outta supra.
also: deleting EGR, bypassing the coolant line in the ISCV and TB, removing the non-working AC and AC condenser, redoing my wiring on the injectors and CPS (better safe than sorry).
I finally got to understand why I had a small misfire at idle, the plug valley on the #5 and #6 were full of oil, so much that I couldn't see the sparkplug at all :V

My Civic does that to #3. Has a new valve cover gasket, just doesn't seal properly.
Well, it turns out the brakes have gone to shit on my dad's truck as well as most of the engine seals. So we get to find out why that's gone over the weekend, and if it's expensive he'll drive mine to work.
dunno how I feel about these

It makes me think there are sockets left on the nuts.
I've always pictured someone finding out what size nut fits lock lugs like those, taking nuts that size and threading them on a bolt, and using it as a key with a lug wrench to take them off.
That's why I like those 8-point lock lugs.
it's just a normal hex bit, i like it since i can paint them and they'll stay looking new even if I use an impact wrench, lol expensive tuner lugs
may plastidip black and sell off the centercaps
